Keeping up with the Kardashians — Kim and boyfriend Kanye West, that is — has become increasingly complicated. This week alone, West set the Internet ablaze with an infinitely quotable New York Times interview, saw the leak of his upcoming album Yeezus and welcomed his first child with Kardashian.
Baby Kimye has been perhaps the most talked about celebrity spawn since Beyoncè gave birth to Blue Ivy Carter in January 2012, and with Kardashian and West continually courting the media (purposefully or otherwise), her impending arrival has been a hot topic since late last year. Let’s take a look back:
December 30, 2012
West announced that he and Kardashian were expecting during a performance in Atlantic City, telling the audience in Revel Resort’s Ovation Hall to “make some noise” for his “baby mama.”
Kardashian confirmed the news the next day, writing on her blog, “It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo.”

The couple attended the fashion-forward Met Gala, where during his performance, West paused to bolster his lady love. “Don’t let nobody bring you down, you’re so awesome, you’re so awesome!,” the rapper said, a comment reportedly meant for Kardashian, who’d been garnering unflattering tabloid attention during her pregnancy.

Rumors began swirling that the couple was expecting a girl when Us Weekly revealed that baby shower invitations were sent out in ballerina-themed music boxes playing West’s Late Registration track “Hey Mama.”
“We’ve been planning it for a while, so I’m excited to get that over with too, ’cause the planning is really annoying,” sister Khloe Kardashian later told MTV News of the garden-themed fete. “But I’m excited to celebrate Kim and the baby and everything.”
As to the manner of the reveal, Khloe told MTV News that it was a shared decision on the couple’s part.
“Kim and Kanye, they both mutually agree on obviously what they want to have on the show or not,” Khloe said. “And so I think everyone is curious and wants to know. And we have opened up so much of our lives, so I think it’s only natural. And I’m excited. I’m excited for everyone to find out so I can stop holding in information.”

In support of his upcoming album, Yeezus, West sat down for a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times. And with his music and personal life inextricably link, talk eventually turned to the upcoming arrival of his first child — and his philosophy on parenting.
“I don’t want to explain too much into what my thoughts on, you know, fatherhood are, because I’ve not fully developed those thoughts yet,” he said. “I don’t have a kid yet.”
Ye added that he probably wouldn’t be talking much about it after the fact, either.
“Yeah. Well, I just don’t want to talk to America about my family,” he said. “Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.”

Days before its scheduled June 18 release, Yeezus leaked online, inciting a downloading frenzy.

West’s album isn’t the only thing to arrive early. Five weeks before her due date, Kardashian gave birth to the couple’s first child, a baby girl. (West reportedly canceled a promotional appearance the night before because Kardashian wasn’t feeling well.)
