Fall Out Boy Will Thank … Fall Out Boy If They Win A VMA

Sure, most people thank their mom, or God, or their fans or even the director of their video when they win a Moonman at the VMAs.

But after a five-year absence from the lineup during their hiatus, Fall Out Boy have much different plans in mind for the August 25 2013 MTV Video Music Awards from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“I feel like the VMAs is where … if felt like our band was first embraced or recognized is some ways,” said bassist Pete Wentz of the broadcast. “So it’s really exciting to come full circle. Especially because this group of videos is really important to us and is really important to the story of the album.”

The boys are nominated in the Best Rock Video category for the clip, which features 2 Chainz and his henchwomen dramatically setting fire to a pile of FOB albums and then trashing all their equipment with a blowtorch. Their competition includes Imagine Dragons (“Radioactive”), Mumford & Sons (“I Will Wait”), Thirty Seconds to Mars (“Up in the Air”) and Vampire Weekend (“Diane Young”).

It’s their first trip back to the big show since 2008, when they were nominated in the same category for the song “Beat It.”

And, if their name is called next month, Wentz told the rest of the band that he has some self-congratulatory expectations for them. “If we win anything for this damn record I want you to go on stage and say, ‘Thank you … us!'”
