Drake Was Told ‘You’ll Never Be A Big Tymer,’ But He’s Still Down

Fans were up in arms when Birdman announced plans to work on a new Big Tymers album with Lil Wayne and Drake — minus Mannie Fresh — but it turns out that the Toronto rapper had no idea that project was on the table, until he started receiving hate mail.

“I didn’t get the phone call about that,” Drake told MTV News, clearly caught off guard by the question, and even glancing over at his management for answers. “But I’m sure I’ll be involved.”

“I would’ve loved to bring the Big Tymers out [at OVO Fest], that would’ve been crazy,” he said after catching himself. “But maybe we’ll save that for next year.”

Drake explained that he never actually had a conversation with Birdman about working on a Big Tymers album, but only heard uproar over the project in passing, after Birdman initially announced the news on a special YMCMB edition of “RapFix Live” in Miami and ruled out Mannie Fresh’s involvement.

“Mannie Fresh is an incredible guy and of course Birdman is one of a kind,” he said. “I think I heard about it or watched some of it, and then I got people being like, ‘You’ll never be a Big Tymer, your sh– is terrible — just going off on me.”

“So I’m not the one being like, ‘Oh I’m a new Big Tymer,'” he added, laughing. “[But] I’m down though, to work on anything. If Birdman calls me to work on something I’ma work on it.”

During his most recent visit to “RapFix Live” last month, Birdman admitted that after hearing Mannie Fresh share his thoughts on a Big Tymers album without his involvement, he reached out to the former Cash Money producer and opened up a line of communication.

“I’ve been talking to Fresh a lot. We talk every other day, we been talking about doing music; so matter of fact, we gonna get in,” Birdman said. “Me and Fresh ain’t got no problem, we never had no problem. It’s been a minute and we plan on working again.”

So now that everyone’s looped in on the project, maybe it’ll arrive in the near future? In the meantime, Drake will drop his third album, Nothing Was the Same, on September 17. The album’s most recent single is which Drake hopes will be played at weddings in 10 years.
