We may have to wait a while for a full R&B mixtape from Drake, but the OVO boss gets a nice head start on the charts this week with his all-sung new single. Here’s what else you’re downloading in droves.
Hold On, Drake’s Got Another Hit
Whenever Drizzy gets around to getting married, he’ll be able to say that his
was a top 10 smash. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” will waltz into the Billboard Digital Songs chart at #8, thanks to sales of 109,000.
Miley Vs. Robin: On Billboard And In Brooklyn
That timeless melody clearly hit it with music lovers who are also still loving Robin Thicke‘s VMA-nominated smash “Blurred Lines,” which will mark its 10th non-consecutive week atop the singles tally, thanks to this week’s sales of 346,000.
If streaming him on repeat isn’t enough, Thicke fans can catch him performing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards at Barclays, along with Miley Cyrus, who’s also going head-to-head with the crooner in the just-announced Best Song of the Summer category. (Go vote!)
Cyrus is at #3 on the Songs chart with “We Can’t Stop (158,000) and another hot weather hit, Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” holds at #4 (132,000). Elsewhere, Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” hit the top 10 after moving up four spots to #9 on sales of 101,000, with most of the sales from a remix by Cedric Gervais.
Not So Civil Wars
There probably won’t be a congratulatory call between Joy Williams and John Paul White to celebrate the band’s first #1 debut. The Civil Wars’ self-titled second album will take the top spot on next week’s Billboard 200 with sales of 116,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The party is likely to be subdued, though, since the duo aren’t talking to each other and aren’t expected to make any appearances to promote the album.
Hov Down, Dragons Up
Elsewhere in the albums top 10, Thicke’s Blurred Lines was down 63 percent in week two to #3 (65,000) and Jay Z’s Magna Carta … Holy Grail shed another 22 percent to slide to #4 (48,000) as it nears the 850,000 mark. While those were dropping, Imagine Dragons continued to march back up the charts thanks to an iTunes sale, moving up four spots to #7 with Night Visions (37,000), which is now nearing the 1.3 million mark.
Dragons fared even better on the iTunes album chart, where they were just behind the Civil Wars at #2, while Ariana Grande’s upcoming debut, Yours Truly, cracked in at #8 on pre-sales.
