Benedict Cumberbatch Talks Cheekbone Polishing Parties: ‘It Happens All the Time’

No wonder Benedict Cumberbatch’s zygoma is in such good shape.

While promoting his latest film, the London native joked with MTV News about his recent Reddit AMA, in which he responded to a fan’s query about whether the “Sherlock” actor engaged in “cheek bone polishing parties” with Matt Smith and Tom Hiddleston.

“It happens all the time,” Cumberbatch said. “People just don’t get to hear about it. It’s a very private thing.”

Back in October, the cheeky star set tongues wagging with his response on Reddit: “We like nothing better than buffing our Zygoma. And imaging a horny time traveling long overcoat purple scarf wearing super sleuth Nordic legend f— fantasy. Get to work on that, internet,” he wrote.

But don’t expect to see those famous cheekbones on the big screen when “The Hobbit: Desloation of Smaug” hits theaters. Cumberbatch lends his talents to dual roles in Peter Jackson’s sequel, voicing the larger-than-life, gold-loving dragon Smaug, as well as the frighteningly fiery Necromancer. For the roles, Cumberbatch offered two separate motion-capture performances.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch and fellow “Hobbit” star Martin Freeman return to small screens Stateside on January 19, when “Sherlock” season three debuts on PBS Masterpiece.

Last month, while promoting “Thor: The Dark World,” Hiddleston appeared to be rather alarmed by Cumberbatch’s remarks.

“You see, zygoma is a word I didn’t know existed. That’s Cumberbatch vocabulary,” Hiddleston told Yahoo! Movies.

“Benedict. That’s just asking for trouble, isn’t it?” he continued. “Oh my goodness. That’s quite a mischievous thing to do. I’ll be having words with him about that.”
