Dude Buys a Bunch of Tickets to ‘Transformers’ to Prove a Girl Wrong

by 44 mins ago

It’s probably safe to assume that no one would ever categorize “Transformers: Age of Extinction” as a love story — though one man in China probably hopes his own romantic comedy will begin due to the Michael Bay film.

At least that’s the reasoning behind why he bought hundreds of tickets to IMAX screenings of the film — to prove to a woman who once rebuffed his romantic advances seven years ago (yup — SEVEN!) that he’s a regular ol’ Moneybags now. Really.

According to The South China Morning Post, a man named Wang (it’s his last name, you children) bought hundreds of tickets to a bevy of Beijing IMAX screenings of the film in order to prove his financial security to a woman. As the story is told from his point of view, she upped and moved to Beijing immediately after Wang was unable to afford to take her out on a movie date. So now that Mr. Wang is rolling in the proverbial dough, he’s decided to spend a quarter of a million yuan (Read: $40,000) to buy out all the seats in four of the six IMAX theaters in the capitol city. To prove to a woman that she made some big, huge mistake.

Taking to his Weibo blog (Weibo is essentially China’s answer to Facebook and Twitter), Wang touted his so-called romantic gesture to say, “I only want to say that you might have been wrong when you made that decision.” Because nothing says ...

‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’: What the Critics Think of Michael Bay’s Latest

by 5 mins ago

So it looks like Mark Wahlberg isn’t the only one who’s found a Transformer, you guys. As the latest installment in Michael Bay‘s robotic movie franchise, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” hits theaters, Optimus Prime and his buddies have gotten the once-over from film critics. You know, in order to help you decide whether or not the nearly 3-hours-long (really) robot epic is worth your dollars and time.

Eschewing the Shia LaBeouf-iness of installments past, the newest iteration finds Wahlberg in the hero’s seat (one of the main reasons the sequel got made), with the likes of Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer along for the ride. After a mega-battle has left a once-great city in utter ruins, a new form of evil steps up to the plate in an attempt to change the course of history and take over the world. Thanks to Optimus Prime and the other Autobots (alongside Wahlberg, too, of course), a war of good versus evil is fought in the name of saving the planet.

Still the question begs: should you see it? Well that’s what critics are for — to help inform your opinion before heading out to IMAX it up. Whether you do is up to you, but we’ve rounded up a few opinions in the meantime to help you make up your mind.

Mark Wahlberg Does the Heavy Lifting
“Mark Wahlberg proves again that he has wonderful comedic timing and delivery, on top of serving as a good action ...

‘Orange Is The New Black’ Star Reveals Fruity Origins of Handy-J Success

by 1 min ago

It would be very easy for us to be immature about this, but: “Orange is the New Black” has some tricks up their prison jumper sleeves when it comes to bringing authenticity to the jailed-up drama. Like, say, how to make a faux-handy-J done in secrecy in a closet come to life on your Netflix screen. The trick is utilizing just the right sort of props.

And if you’ve ever been in a middle school sex ed class, their answer shouldn’t surprise you. MTV spoke to Matt McGorry, a.k.a. Bennett, to get the scoop (or should we say peel? No? OK that’s fine), while on the red carpet of Logo TV’s “Trailblazers” special.

I mean, it is a very handy way to utilize craft services, we’ll give them that. But we’re not so sure McGorry should be putting it on his Cheerios afterwards.

“Trailblazers,” a one-hour show honoring pioneers in the fight for LGBT equality will premiere on June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

‘Orphan Black’ Finale Redux: Let’s Talk About Mark

by 11 hours ago

If you’re not caught up on the finale of “Orphan Black,” may we suggest you back away from this post now (and not slowly), as it contains perhaps the biggest game-changing spoiler in Clone Club history.

OK, so. Let’s talk about Mark, shall we? Because Mark is not really unique. Mark is, shall we say, one of a few with no family, too? That’s right, folks: there’s an army of male clones out there in the world and they all share a face with Ari Millen, the actor who — up until this point — was known solely as Prolethean convert Mark. He’s been creeping us out all season and now we know why…

Mark is a clone. (And here all this time you thought the game-changer was the trans clone.)

Which means we haven’t seen the last of him, or even all of him, yet. Not by a long shot. Ho-ly sestrahood, folks!

Now, the reveal that Project Leda was merely one part of the cloning operation was not all that surprising — people have wondered since season one if there were male counterparts and who that might be (many fans hoped it would be revealed to be Felix). But the fact that we found out, at the end of the season, that we’d been dealing with a male clone the whole time? W-O-W. That’s a reveal, folks. Project Castor is a-go.

Mark’s existence as a clone opens up the floodgates in a really ...

Where The Heck Are These 9 ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters?

by 12 mins ago

So, it’s been nearly a week since the season four finale of “Game of Thrones,” and still we are left with questions. So many, in fact. But few more fervent than those surrounding missing and/or ignored characters from this season and those prior.

Because, hey, it’s easy to misplace a few folk here and there. There are, after all, approximately a billion characters — give or take — in George R.R. Martin’s epic tale. So where have they gone? Are we likely see them again? Here’s a few we’re dying to know more about heading into next season. And no, these don’t contain book spoilers, so you’re safe, TV-only fans.

1. Gendry

Sure, we maybe-kinda-sorta found him this week, and allegedly he’s still a-rowin’, but where exactly is the Baratheon bastard? And will he ever land ashore? If he’s been rowing for a year, where would that put him? Essos? Sothoryos? Ulthos? America (in our dreams)? Tell us, HBO, tell us!

2. Yara Greyjoy

We saw but a moment of Yara last season. The tough-as-nails sister certainly didn’t seem one to give up on her family or the fight (though that is exactly what she did this season). Did she head back to the Iron Islands? Is she cooking up another plan? We think she deserves another go at rescuing her brother and bringing him back into the real world, but we’re also pulling for any family on this show to not be a broken down, ...

Photographic Proof ‘Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams Was Clearly Born to Play Arya Stark

by 06/10/14

It’s no secret that Maisie Williams, adorable, pocket-sized British human and creator of hilarious Vine videos, may be the best — and most kick-butt — part of “Game of Thrones.” As the scrappy and murder-happy Arya Stark, the actress is impressive and growing into a terrifying but competent player in this high fantasy game of chaos and bloodshed (and boobies and dragons!). With Needle in her hand she’s not one to mess with — some might even call her damn-near unstoppable.

Which is why, when the actress posted this Instagram, we were none too surprised. Because Baby Maisie Williams, it seems, already knew she was born to play this part. I mean, just look at that expression:

#swag #baller #bitchez #paper

I mean…come ON. That stare, that mug, the attitude of a champion. This is a girl that knows winter is coming. If that’s not the sort of swag one picks up at House Stark of Winterfell, nothing is.

Tonight’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Is Its Most Expensive Episode, Ever

by 06/08/14

We’re already way excited for tonight’s brand new episode of “Game of Thrones” — The Watchers on The Wall. But when you take into consideration the fact that this is the series’ most expensive hour to date? Well, now we can barely sit still.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Jon Snow’s real-life counterpart Kit Harington, explained the episode is “as big as Thrones has gone at the moment. I mean, I think it’s no secret that it’s the most expensive episode that they’ve ever made and a lot of that is due to the CGI.” (Though to be fair, Jon Snow knows nothing, so take that with a grain of salt.)

The series’ showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, confirmed as such going over the details of the episode with Entertainment Weekly, even noting that episode touts both “the biggest green screen in Europe” and “the biggest Styrofoam piece in existence.”

“It’s a very intense episode, more intense than ‘Blackwater,’” said Benioff.

Weiss added: “With ‘Blackwater’ when we got the episode in, so much of it was visual effects dependent we were kind of unsure — the performances were fantastic and the action was great, but we weren’t entirely sure what we had until the pieces were put together. But with this, … just something about it really grabbed us by the neck [and] that’s very rare even with the great directors we’re fortunate to work with.”

The grand scale of the episode is likely ...

Shailene Woodley Went To ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ In Disguise Last Night — See Her Sneaky Look

by 06/08/14

Shailene Woodley, spritely wood nymph/human hybrid and star of the cannot-get-any-bigger “The Fault in Our Stars,” managed to go incognito to a screening of her teen sobfest feature, thanks to a crafty lil disguise.

The jig was revealed by her “Fault” co-star Ansel Elgort on Instagram.

Shai's amazing disguise to go see #tfios last night without causing a scene!

Considering Woodley’s love of all things au natural, we’re curious to see that she ended up in what looks like a run of the mill ski cap and synthetic wig. Typically we’d assume Woodley would go the “shred bark into hair strands and fashion a jaunty cap out of a leaf or two” route.

But perhaps that was part of the ruse — give ‘em something so wholly un Woodley-esque and watch as the rest of the crowd is none the wiser, eh?

Of course we could also be very wrong: maybe her wig is actually made out of silkened sea kelp and wool she sheared and knit herself. That’s so Woodley.

According to Elgort, Woodley’s identity wasn’t the only thing under wraps at the screening — she also sneaked in her own snacks.
