Joan Rivers Update: In Serious Condition, Possibly On Life Support

by 46 mins ago

After several days worth of reports that icon and comedian Joan Rivers was in stable condition following a vocal chord procedure gone awry, new details paint a slightly different picture as to the star’s health. TMZ is reporting that Rivers’ is currently on life support, though her family remains hopeful for signs of improvement.

This updated report comes after news that the comedian was in stable, and then critical, condition following what several outlets are reporting to be a cardiac arrest that occurred sometime during her vocal chord surgery last week. Other reports simply state that Rivers stopped breathing.

Deadline has official word from Rivers’ daughter Melissa, who claimed nothing more than a “serious condition” status, adding that “[the family's] fingers are crossed.” The younger Rivers also thanked fans for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.

On Friday, Melissa Rivers released the following statement to Deadline:

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”

By Saturday, neither Rivers’ family nor Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York had any official updates on her well-being, but various outlets claimed varying confirmation of her status. USA Today reported Rivers was in a medically-induced coma after going into cardiac arrest during ...

We Are In ‘Lava’ With Pixar’s Lovesick Volcano

by 11 mins ago

Awwww! Volcanoes are having a moment right now (what with two of them going off around the world at the moment), but this one’s likely the only one to melt your ever-loving heart with love (rather than, y’know, incinerating it with fire and ash). Naturally, it’s not so much a real one as a Pixar animated one, but still: a little bit of adorable, personified cuteness never hurt anybody, right?

“Lava,” as the short is titled because of course it is, introduces us to a lovesick volcano named Uku who only wants to find another volcano, and in turn, love. As the days turn into nights and continue to add up, his one dream remains true: he wants to find somebody to love-ah. Lava, love-ah: get it? Adorable freaking puns are adorable.

Because Uku is just the cutest. He has dreams:

He wants love:

And he’ll wait as long as it takes to find it:

AWWWW! UKU you ol’ romantic, you! Here’s the clip, complete with Uku’s lovely singing voice:

See? You’re feeling things! An engorged sense of joy and love, aren’t you?

Unfortunately we’ve still got awhile to wait before the full “Lava” lands in our lives: the full short is slated to debut in front of the studio’s next full-length feature, “Inside Out,” premiering June 19, 2015.

Elsa From ‘Frozen’ Is Causing Quite A Storm In This ‘Once Upon A Time’ Trailer

by 10 mins ago

It looks as though the inhabitants of Storybrooke are anything but pleased about Elsa’s shockingly dark arrival to “Once Upon A Time.”

In a new season-four teaser brought to the world exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, “Frozen” princess extraordinaire, Elsa (Georgina Haig) is shown ambling through the small town, passing landmarks as she goes, freezing the place up in her wake. Uh oh!

Continuing the trend of not showing us her face, the back of Elsa is shown wandering past several townsfolk and landmarks.

There’s Granny’s Diner; Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and his shop; Mary Margaret/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin); David/Prince Charming (Josh Dallas); Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue); even Regina/Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) — none of them nearly as pleased as fans of the film and ABC series are like to be.

And don’t expect the “Once Upon A Time” Elsa to be all that happy-go-lucky either, ya’ll.

“Here we go again,” Regina mused unhappily, with Emma adding an annoyed “Really?” to the end of it all. Bad princess, freezing everything in sight: bad!

U.S. Moviegoers Love ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ …Like A Lot

by 4 mins ago

Guess that’s what happens when you have a raccoon named Rocket and a tree-thing named Groot: you become the highest grossing film of the year, domestically speaking.

Not that such a feat was EVER a sure thing (to put it mildly), but “Guardians of the Galaxy” has seated itself high above its other cinematic bedfellows, pulling the title of highest grossing film in the U.S. in 2014, even beating out “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

This proves once and for all the only things America loves more than America itself are chatty animals acting human and giant, lumbering trees (ha ha — see what we did there?) that say no more than 3 words. This is an especially big win considering this summer has been one of the worst for film industry sales since 1997!

As of Friday, “Guardians” was the number one film at the box office again this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $262.1 million, according to Box Office Mojo. A film once widely speculated to be the “first Marvel flop” is now on track to break the $300 million mark — and it would be the first film of the year to do so.

I guess sometimes all the world needs is a ragtag bunch to do the impossible. Even Iron Man himself thinks its the best movie the comic industry monolith has made thus far. Underdogs for the win!

Miley Cyrus Says Elvis Was The Original Twerker

by 28 mins ago

Looking to blame Miley Cyrus for all that twerking in which the youth of the world is now partaking? Don’t, because she wasn’t the first. According to the singer, it was actually the original controversy magnet, Elvis Presley, that started the sensation that is again sweeping the nation.

“Elvis, he wasn’t wearing the outfits I was wearing but he was coming out and he was doing like the OG twerking. Like, no one wants to admit that he was twerking, he was,” NME reports that Cyrus said in an interview with Australia’s “Sunday Night” TV show.

Okay, so maybe this one’s a bit more philosophical than literal — we’ll have to wait for the full interview with the show’s host, Chris Bath, to really know. Still, Cyrus compared Elvis’ sexually charged arrival on the scene in the 1950s to her twerking days of now.

“He was like sex,” Miley said. “He was a symbol of sex but no one would have ever called Elvis a shit because he wasn’t a girl. It’s that double standard and I think I’m doing something for the double standard.”

Amen to that! As for those who criticize her for sending a “bad message” to kids? Miley thinks all the concerned parents need to remember that everyone has the choice to live their life however it makes them happy, and she asserts that she is a symbol of freedom.

“The only thing I’m an example of is freedom, especially in this time where ...

Watch James Brown Turn ‘Sex Machine’ Into A Ramen Commercial

by 15 mins ago

Sometimes the Internet just wants to do us all a solid and bring us a wee bit of curious joy. Today’s such instance is this James Brown ramen commercial, sung to the tune of “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine,” one of his most well-known songs. Timely, given that Chadwick Boseman-fronted biopic about the singer that just came out.

We’re going to go out on a limb and assume this particular incident didn’t make the film’s script. Not because it’s not infinitely interesting (because it is), but more so because it’s James Brown. In a ramen Commercial. Sung to the tune of “Get Up/Sex Machine.” Made in Japan. (Yes, your “Lost In Translation” jokes are very timely and accurate right now, so go ahead and make them.)

And no, we’re not complaining in the least. Because this, if anything, is a gift.

There is little else in the universe that is as enjoyable as seeing a very famous and acclaimed person doing something so silly that you know they hope never, ever sees the light of day in their home country. No doubt it is a very good thing that the Internet did not exist back when Brown recorded the commercial because, lawd knows, that is exactly what would’ve happened. Because, I mean, it’s a song about noodles, sung to the tune of a song about havin’ sex. And while, yeah, Americans love sex and food (and the two combined therein) perhaps a bit more ...

‘The Flash’: Every Easter Egg In The New Poster

by 19 mins ago

As anticipation for The CW’s latest comic book adaptation series, “The Flash,” continues to ramp itself up, the network has decided to release a new teaser poster to throw those DC Universe geeks into hyperdrive and über-speculation.

Because — hoo boy — are there a heck of a lot of easter eggs in this thing.

Being that we are the servicey sort, we’ve decided to break ‘em all down for you, because what’s more fun than pointing out tiny, minute details that potentially speak to a fascinating (and interconnected!) new series and season ahead? Nothing. Absolutely nothing at all.

First up, let’s take a look at the poster all together now, shall we?

The CW Network

Now here’s where the fun begins.

First off, the Queen Consolidated building which we’ve already seen before (on “Arrow,” duh), with Star Labs — the not-blown-up iteration — diagonally below it.

As you continue to move down the poster there’s a wee Big Belly Burger, which has tons of meaning and significance to the universe. And perhaps most menacing of all is the graffiti on the next corner: GRODD LIVES, perhaps? Oh my gorilla goodness.

On the left side there’s a bit of graffiti on the wall we cannot make out (please send your suggestions and ideas straight to the comments, please!).

Another exciting Big Bad tease? That Amertek building sign. Could we perhaps see a John Henry Irons/Steel reboot in the works with that? And would that then mean we’d see a tie to ...

Man Sets Himself On Fire Doing The Ice Bucket Challenge, Defying Science

by 2 mins ago

Oh, America: you infinitely complex and varied beast full of brilliants and personified bratwursts aplenty. Like this man and his Ice Bucket Challenge, which somehow resulted in him getting set on fire (don’t worry, he’s fine).

There are so many things wrong with this. Which should go without saying but just in case, let’s list ‘em! (Everybody likes lists, after all, right?):

- He’s got a confederate flag
- …AND a swingin’ American flag vest
- He took a swig of booze and then SPIT IT OUT
- Right before he lit his head on FIRE
- …On PURPOSE
- He calls himself a rebel
- He thinks all of this is HILARIOUS
- And just in case you missed it, let us again call attention to the CONFEDERATE FLAG.

Needless to say we don’t condone anything this man does, says, or holds in this video.

Billy Eichner Gives Voice To Your TV Nerd Pain With ‘Emmy On The Street’

by 1 min ago

After watching this video we’ve got one thing to proclaim: “Billy Eichner For Emmy Awards Host 2015!”

In the middle of the 2014 Emmy Awards, we were given this beautiful gift: a mini episode of “Billy On The Street,” Emmy Edition. And, well? He said the things we were all thinking (Tatiana Maslany was snubbed, y’all!) and harassed with the fervency of any good television obsessive.

Thankfully you can relive the magic again — in its full-fledged, extended edition glory! — and see just how few people in New York actually give a crap about famous people who live inside their TVs.

I’ll say it again: BILLY EICHNER FOR EMMY AWARDS HOST 2015!
