These 17 Lady Gaga Fans’ ‘ARTPOP’ Tour Looks Deserve A Gold Star

by 05/05/14

Having flown down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from New York, my look for Lady Gaga‘s artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour wasn’t so much a look, as an excuse to shed about 34 percent of my clothing.

That’s why I was so impressed with the elaborate costumes that so many of the Little Monsters in attendance wore. Leather? Orbital headpieces? All that makeup? The fans featured below didn’t just pick up some tour merch and call it a day.

If I tried to recreate ANY of these lewks, I’d be drowning in my own sweat, which, according to all fashion magazines ever probably, is not a good look. So, here, gold stars for all!

1.) Emily, 2.) Holden Rubber, 3.) Zack/Lisa Limbaugh, 4.) Bradley & 5.) Wesley

Also known as the Haus of Piss. See those strands of raver bracelets and necklaces they’re wearing? There are so many amazingly filthy words hidden in them, spelled out in letter beads.

6.) Matthew

Like some of these other fans, I literally had to fight my way through a swarm of people asking to take Matthew’s picture. “You know I’m not her,” he quipped to another would-be photographer.

7.) Jeremy & 8.) Kali

Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ Tour Recap: So Many Wigs, So Many Feelings

by 05/05/14

“Oh, I missed you,” Lady Gaga gushes to her audience. “How much did you miss me?”

It might seem a strange question to ask, considering the “G.U.Y.” singer’s been actively promoting her latest album, ARTPOP, since July of last year. But, this seems to be the underlying narrative of artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour, which kicked off in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, May 4. Everything that has happened in this era thus far has been building to the tour, a time when Gaga can interact with her fans directly, and not through some media middleman. (Present company excluded because I am great.)

Appropriately, the artRave followed Lady Starlight‘s opening set with title-track “ARTPOP,” which saw Gaga hinting at the possibility of such a reunion: “We could, we could belong together.” Along with six elaborate costume changes and what’s got to be half the world’s supply of confetti, what came next was, in many ways, an exercise in reestablishing the kind of strong, fan-to-artist connection that Gaga had achieved with the Born This Way Ball, before that tour was prematurely cancelled in early 2013.

Among the different personas she tried on during the show were a fashion-darling It girl (“G.U.Y.,” “Donatella,” “Fashion!”), a flighty, high-pitched goddess (“Venus,” “MANiCURE,” “Cake Like Lady Gaga.”), and a familiar, sales-friendly ghost of the past (“Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” ...

Lady Gaga’s Topless Tour Moment Might Be Greatest Act Of ‘ARTPOP’ Yet

by 05/05/14

Lady Gaga‘s artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour opener tonight (May 4) in Fort Lauderdale, FL was almost too much for words. I don’t even think “YAAAS!” can cover it this time. Like, if I was wasn’t open-mouthed mesmerized by the “G.U.Y.” singer’s insane get-ups (inflatable, latex octopus tentacles? Are you f***ing serious?!), I was caught in a shower of weed-leaf confetti. One second I was a Koons, then suddenly the Koons LITERALLY COULD NOT.

But, if there’s one moment in the entire two-hour concert that really jumped out at me, it would have to be the second-to-last costume change in the set. After performing “Alejandro” in a black, skintight get-up, Gaga suddenly declared that she’s “not afraid to get a little filthy.” To prove this, she then ripped the green, shoulder-length wig right off of her head. Yes, she literally snatched her own wig. Reverse Warholian expedition says what?

lady gaga

As the 28-year-old star began stripping off nearly all of her clothing — save for some panties and a pair of sparkly, silver pasties — a team of stylists rushed onstage to change Gaga into her next ensemble.

Despite being soundtracked by would-be Azealia Banks-featured banger “Ratchet,” the quick-change wasn’t a choreographed affair, which made the moment bare and intimate enough to border on uncomfortable. It’s, like, she took something that’s normally hidden away backstage and brought it out onstage in full view of the audience without really prettying ...

These Lady Gaga Emoji Are PERFECT For The ‘ARTPOP’ Tour & Your Life In General

Infographic: What To Pack For Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ Tour

by 05/02/14 lady gaga

Much like Lady Gaga‘s whole ARTPOP concept itself, the “G.U.Y.” singer’s upcoming artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour could mean ANYTHING.

When it all kicks off in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday, will we see anything from my list of artRave demands? Will there be body fluids flying because #performanceart? What about Volantis? Will Gaga’s famed flying dress gain sentience, lock herself in a dressing room, and swear she won’t come out until each individual in the audience tells her she looks great tonight? WHO CAN SAY.

Still, there are a couple of must-have items that all of us here at MTV feel would serve any concert-goer well the night of the show.

lady gaga

I mean, with “rave” in the tour’s title, you definitely couldn’t go wrong with some candy bracelets and pacifiers. (Bejeweled, even?) Plus no Gaga lewk would be complete without some gravity-defying platforms. Practically speaking, a rain poncho might be a good thing to pack if you’re planning to be near the front of the stage. Remember Gaga’s SXSW performance? Just sayin’.

But, if all else fails, just bring a Ziploc of loose glitter, and you’ll be fine.

Beyonce Shares A Photo Of Her Childhood ‘Grill’

by 05/02/14 beyonce

Now, anyone who obsessively catalogs Beyoncé like I do knows that she’s never been one to shy away from a grill. Remember that gold, bottom-row one she wore to Coachella? Just FYI, the exact one she wore is nowhere to be found on eBay. I checked.

So, when I saw the caption on Bey’s latest Instagram photo (“My grill in 1988″), while scrolling quickly through my feed this morning, I nearly dropped my phone into the tub of hummus I was trying to pass off as a balanced breakfast. Once I actually looked at the pic, though, I realized that the “Pretty Hurts” singer was simply referring to her teeth, or lack thereof, in this class photo circa elementary school.

Sure, seeing bb Bey equipped with some Katy Perry in “Dark Horse“-levels of mouth candy would have been iconic. But, honestly? This picture of Beyoncé absolutely beaming with that “Just found some Tooth Fairy money under my pillow” glow is approximately a-bajillion times better. It should be on a stamp, right? BRB, starting a Change.org petition … right after I finish the last three servings of this hummus.

This Paramore/ Justin Bieber Beef Sure Is Getting Real

by 04/30/14 paramore

Not to be that vegetarian at the barbecue, but we need to have a serious talk about beef. Specifically, the one grilling (broiling?) between Paramore and Justin Bieber.

See this “Ain’t It Fun” — er, “Ain’t It Funny” — single cover with frontwoman Hayley Williams sticking out her tongue up top? The band’s Twitter handle tweeted it Tuesday afternoon, adding: “limited-edition ‘Ain’t It Fun’ singles coming soon!” Anyone else feel like they’ve seen this visual before? To quote the prophet Beyoncé: “Baby, I swear it’s déjà vu.”

justin bieber

Oh wait, that’s because it’s a near-exact replica of the cover of Justin’s third studio album, Believe. The grayscale! The black-on-yellow, caution tape-like font! Not to stir the pot (TOO LATE), but I’m pretty sure that Paramore’s totally trolling his Canadian excellence.

justin bieber

As Complex reported, many Paramore fans were quick to notice the eerie similarities between Justin Bieber’s “We Were Born for This” art and the cover of Paramore’s 2007 album, Riot.

paramore

So, was Bieber’s “We Were Born For This” cover Paramore of the same, if you will? (FLAWLESS WORDPLAY.) I can’t say for sure, but it is interesting to note that the Biebs has since removed the visual from the track’s SoundCloud page.

Guess that’s all for now. Stick around if you wanna hear me break down why factory-farmed beef is, like, super-problematic. *EVERYONE IMMEDIATELY ...

Nick & Knight: Nick Carter And Jordan Knight Are Making A Collabo Album

by 04/30/14 nick & knight, nick carter, jordan knight

Here is a thing that is real and matters more than all of the other things on the definitive list of things: Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys and Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block are joining forces for a forthcoming collaboration album titled Nick & Knight (out September 2) and a North American tour this fall.

You know what that means? All other boy bands can take a stadium full of seats today. That’s right, I mean you, One Direction, 5 Seconds Of Summer, The Vamps, The Wanted, and — ooooooooh, sorry! Too soon.

The LP’s available for pre-order right now on NickandKnight.com, and those who do so will snag an auto-download of the duo’s new song teased in the video above, “Just the Two of Us.” The track’s got an easygoing, “so hot right now” Pharrell-disco-throwback feel to it with a totally old-school, NKOTB-worthy bassline vocal and tingling, BSB-era falsetto harmonies.

This is a lot to process right now. Middle-school me is literally ripping up his brand-new Trapper Keeper out of feels-related frustration. Still, my body — it is ready.

Now, let’s all gaze at Nick Carter’s now-and-forever facial flawlessness.

Oh, and Jordan Knight’s because #turndownforwhat.

Cher Lloyd’s ‘Sirens’ Video Hits Us Right In The ‘Breaking Bad’ Feels

by 04/29/14

Anyone who knows anything about Cher Lloyd knows that she’s not one to hold her tongue. (Likewise, anyone who knows nothing about the U.K. pop princess can GTFO.) That’s why it’s so alarming to see her channel such isolation and pain in her new “Sirens” video. Who took your brattitude, bb?!?! I will literally make like Mariah Carey in “Touch My Body,” and hunt them down.

The Uprising Creative LLC-directed clip presents Cher as a woman in pain, silently watching the drug-dealing father of her child do “business” in their kitchen as her world slowly crumbles around her. The internal struggle is real, and we’re feeling all the feels over the “Bind Your Love” singer’s performance.

For anyone who ever complained about Skyler White being an annoying buzzkill or whatever on “Breaking Bad,” maybe it was because HER HUSBAND WAS DEALING METH AND IT CAUSED HER PAIN. Or, as Cher belts it out in “Sirens”: “I am drowning, and you’re stealing every breath.” Stick that in your meth pipe, and — wait, why do you have a meth pipe?!

I won’t spoil it here, but the video does offer some resolution for Cher’s character, who finally manages to cut ties with her abusive significant other by clip’s end. As much as I love giving Cher all-access passes to my tear ducts, I really hope she bounces back with a goofier, more upbeat track for the next video from her upcoming sophomore ...

Will Rita Ora Have The Song Of The Summer?

One of the bigger bummers about living in New York is that when Song of the Summer Season (also known as summer) rolls around, you’re stuck without a car to blast it in and cruise aimlessly with your friends. Last time someone I know danced her way through a subway station, she got stopped by a grizzled old man who told her, “Stop doing that with your body.” Still, I might just have to risk it with Rita Ora‘s “I Will Never Let You Down.”

I mean, it would take a lot of willpower to ignore the call set forth by the track’s infectious, ’80s-throwback chorus, where Rita repeatedly coos the titular lyrics over an explosive, Whitney Houston-esque instrumental. As someone who just lost a stare down with a bite-size Butterfinger, I don’t have that willpower.

Anyway, I got to meet up with the girl behind the Ora and chat about her new single, plus that sophomore album that’s on its way. (Oh, and ripping off Zac Efron’s shirt at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.) As it turns out, the Whitney vibes were totally intentional!

“I love the feeling of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody‘ and ‘How Will I Know,’” Rita shared. “[Whitney Houston] was a queen at doing love songs you could dance to,” which is something the U.K. pop singer aimed to achieve with her own summer-jam hopeful.

By the way, “I Will Never Let You Down” was written and produced by boyfriend/mega-famous DJ Calvin Harris. ...
