‘Agents Of SHIELD’: 7 Questions About Last Night’s Ice-Cold Episode

by 23 mins ago

We’re three episodes into the new season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” and it’s safe to say that the momentum created by the HYDRA reveals of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” are alive and well in season two.

The latest episode, called “Making Friends and Influencing People,” focused on Agent Jemma Simmons and her newfound loyalty to HYDRA — or lack thereof. It put Simmons in a deadly new situation alongside her former S.H.I.E.L.D. compatriots, even if she was unaware of their presence. And it added some interesting new wrinkles to the Skye-Ward dynamic as well.

All in all, a fantastic hour of a show that’s just gotten better and better with each passing episode since “Turn, Turn, Turn.” Here’s some of what we’re thinking after the latest round of “S.H.I.E.L.D.”:

1. Is Simmons The Best?

simmons

She’s totally the best. Jemma Simmons went from sidekick scientist to Sydney Bristow-in-the-making in one single episode, as a deep-cover agent embedded in HYDRA, reporting back to Coulson on all of their devious activities. It’s a great new storyline for a character that never had a very clear definition, beyond her shared role with Fitz as tech support. One of the strongest creative decisions of the revamped “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to date.

2. Is Hunter The Worst?

hunter

He’s totally the worst, so much so that multiple members of the S.H.I.E.L.D. squad want to shoot him. (Best Agent Triplett moment of the season, for sure.) But maybe there’s merit in ...

Is ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ About To Pull The Trigger On Its Deadliest Villain?

by 27 mins ago

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!

An already forked-up situation got forked even further on tonight’s “Sons of Anarchy,” titled “Some Strange Eruption.” After the Lin Triad’s brutal attack on Diosa last week, Jax Teller and the Sons are forced to move faster than expected, but the end result isn’t exactly what they hoped for.

Meanwhile, Gemma Morrow Teller — the person responsible for all this mayhem, seeing as she killed Tara and tossed the blame at Henry Lin — finally suffers some blowback of her own, at the hands of her accomplice, Juice. As it stands, it looks like Gemma has a hot date with Mr. Mayhem…

Here’s everything that just went down on “Sons”:

Jax Makes His Move

FX

The secret’s out: Jax Teller wants Henry Lin dead for Tara Knowles’ murder, and everybody knows it.

Jax confesses as much to Nero. Heck, he even tells Lin himself. The Lin Triad’s attack on Diosa forces Jax’s hand, destroying his ability to sneak-attack Lin and torture him slowly. Instead, he has all of the Triad rounded up in Stockton, and demands a street brawl with Lin before carting him away to be tortured and killed. Jax channels his inner Red Viper and demands Lin’s confession: “Say her name! Her name was Tara! Say her name!”

But Lin claims he has no idea what Jax is talking about, because, well, he doesn’t; the Triad had nothing to do with Tara’s murder. That doesn’t stop Jax from wanting Henry’s head — the arrival of Stockton police takes ...

James Bond’s Origin Will Be Revealed In New Comic Book Series

by 27 mins ago

James Bond likes tuxedoes. He prefers his martinis shaken, not stirred. He sleeps around with alarming frequency, and kills people with alarming proficiency. What else do we need to know about the iconic British spy?

That question will get answered in the pages of a new comic book series published by Dynamite Entertainment, centered on Bond’s origin story. The publishing company has partnered up with Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. to adapt classic Bond stories, as well as tell all-new ones, including a series focusing on “the defining — and largely undocumented — early years of Bond’s career.”

“These new stories will draw inspiration from the Fleming canon to explore Bond’s ‘origins’: his raw early years before he gambled with his life in the first novel, Casino Royale (1953),” Dynamite revealed in a press release. “Some other familiar faces from the expansive 007 mythos will also make appearances in this series — criminal masterminds, hired henchmen, glamorous Bond Girls and secret service allies — alongside all-new characters.”

“Ian Fleming’s James Bond is one the best-known characters in the world, yet we know very little of his background and beginnings,” editor Mike Lake said of the series. “The Bond villains are some of the most memorable figures in Popular culture…where did they come from? And in some cases, where did they go?”

Other details, including who will be writing and illustrating the new “Bond” stories, remain unknown; perhaps we’ll find out as soon as this week during New York Comic Con. The first of Dynamite’s ...

‘Gotham’ Introduces The Weirdest Batman Villain Ever: ‘The Balloonman’

by 24 mins ago

Gotham City is a weird, weird place — and sometimes, weird can be wonderful.

The city at the heart of the new FOX series already has its fair share of villains, of all shapes and sizes, from criminal masterminds Carmine Falcone and Fish Mooney to future Batman bad guys Oswald “Penguin” Cobblepot and Selina “Catwoman” Kyle. But then there are the rogues that only James Gordon will have the “pleasure” of facing — and he just raced the weirdest one of them all…

balloonman

…The Balloonman, a pig-masked vigilante who runs around strapping the city’s worst scum to weather balloons, sending them up, up and away — until they come plummeting back to Earth, coating the streets of Gotham in guts and gore. It doesn’t matter if you’re a mobster or a corrupt cop; if you’re dirty, you’re on the Balloonman’s radar.

In their eventual showdown, Gordon learns that the Balloonman is a social services worker attempting to clean up Gotham because no one else can or will. He gives Gordon a unique vantage point over the city of Gotham (not literally), leaving the good cop to wonder just how far ordinary civilians are willing to go to rid their city of cancerous crime.

It’s a valid point, albeit one that’s made under the ridiculous guise of strapping people to weather balloons and sending them off to space. The fact that the victims eventually fall back to the ground doesn’t make it any less absurd when they’re last seen floating off ...

Adam Sandler Is Making Four New Movies Just For Netflix

by 17 mins ago

Netflix isn’t just making all-new original shows anymore. It’s also getting in the all-new original feature film business as well. The streaming service is already set to release “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend” as its first feature, and now, Netflix has lined up four more original movies — and they’re all about Adam Sandler.

The legendary “Billy Madison” and “Happy Gilmore” comedian has teamed up with Netflix to star in and produce four feature films, exclusively for Netflix. That’s right: Four brand-new Sandler movies, completely bypassing theaters, landing firmly and immediately on Netflix.

“People love Adam’s films on Netflix and often watch them again and again,” says Netflix’s Ted Sarandos. “His appeal spans across viewers of all ages — everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line — not just in the US but all over the world.”

As for why Sandler wants in on the Netflix game? His answer is… well, it’s positively Sandler.

“When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only… Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks,” he said. “Let the streaming begin!”

Oh, Adam.

Right now, there’s no word on the actual movies that Sandler’s set to make for Netflix, or when you should expect to see them. The Happy Madison mastermind is best known for comedy, but he’s dabbled in dramatic fare previously, as recently as “The Cobbler,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this ...

‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Recruits New Blood, But Do We Need Him?

by 24 mins ago

Meet Lance Hunter. He’s a highly-trailed field operative working with S.H.I.E.L.D. for dubious reasons — so dubious, in fact, he even turns his gun on his fellow agents.

Sound familiar? That’s because we’ve seen the story before, through former golden boy turned treacherous snake Grant Ward. He posed as a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for months before revealing himself as a HYDRA spy, leading to his eventual incarceration.

Ward and Hunter’s situations aren’t one-for-one mirrors of each other, but they’re similar enough to wonder why “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” needs someone like Hunter on the regular squad. He’s British, he’s badass, he’s rebellious — and unless the producers really want to tread old ground, he isn’t a secret double-agent working against Coulson’s best interests. But accent aside, what does Hunter bring to the table that every other character doesn’t already supply?

hunterABC

Hunter’s central focus in last night’s “Heavy is the Head” is one of few question marks in an otherwise solid hour of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season two’s second episode features the welcome return of smooth-as-silk Raina, another great use of Crusher “Absorbing Man” Creel, and the return of Coulson’s compelling carvings — potential visions of another world. It also furthers the mystery of Skye’s father, as actor Kyle MacLachlan enters the scene as an imposing evil-doer who wants a face-to-face with his “daughter.”

Best part of all: MacLachlan’s villain isn’t affiliated with HYDRA, which adds another new party to the… err… party. It makes the show’s landscape pretty interesting, actually. S.H.I.E.L.D. is trying to ...

‘Sons Of Anarchy’: 7 Questions About Last Night’s Bloodbath

by 40 mins ago

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!

On the latest episode of “Sons of Anarchy,” titled “Poor Little Lambs,” the fit finally hit the shan. Jax Teller’s warpath against the Lin Triad blew back on Charming in a very literal way, with a grenade exploding right in the heart of town, and several of Jax and Nero’s associates at Diosa gunned down in cold blood. The Triad’s retaliation against SAMCRO makes it clear that Jax’s plan has backfired — and it’s backfired against all the wrong people.

Where does Jax go from here? And who is ultimately responsible for the bloodbath? Let’s try to answer those questions, and more:

1. Who Do We Blame?

Do we blame Gemma for killing Tara, lying about Lin, and starting this mess? Do we blame Jax for pursuing his vengeance so recklessly? Do we blame the other Sons for not reining Jax in enough? Do we blame Jury for ratting out the club? Do we blame the Triad themselves for pulling the trigger? Who do we blame for the deaths at Diosa and the bombing in Charming? It’s a simple question — with no simple answers.

2. Does Jax Have a Plan B?

FX

Because Plan A just blew up. Jax wanted slow-burn vengeance against the Triad — but now that his element of surprise is out the window, he’ll need to resort to new tactics. How will the blood on the streets of Charming impact Jax’s next move? Will he slow down? Will he ramp up? ...

‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Just Achieved ‘Game Of Thrones’ Levels Of Mayhem

by 8 mins ago

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!

“Henry Lin sends his regards.”

After weeks of assaults on the Lin Triad, August Marks, and basically anyone else careless enough to cross his path, Jax Teller finally suffered blowback right at home in Charming. Friends, colleagues, cops — you name it — were caught up in the crossfire between the Sons of Anarchy and their misguided revenge quest against the wrong enemy. Nothing, and no one, is safe anymore.

Here’s what went down:

A Charming War

samcro

Henry Lin promised that he would turn Charming into “a god damn killing field,” and he certainly delivered. Someone informed Lin that the Sons were responsible for the attack on their buyers back in “Toil and Till.” That someone remains a mystery, but come on — it’s totally Jury.

Whoever ratted, the results are clear: Lin’s men toss a grenade into Scoops and nearly wipe out every single key member of SAMCRO, as well as Charming’s new sheriff Althea Jarry, who already had one hell of a blood-soaked day on her hands. (More on that in a second.) They survive, but barely.

The women at Diosa are not so lucky. Lin sends a hit squad to SAMCRO and Nero’s joint venture and shoots the whole place up, killing escorts and patrons alike, including Jax’s former fling Colette. And at the docks in Stockton, all the weapons the Sons were guarding are gone, with recent recruit Orlin West killed in the process.

The massive retaliation against the Sons feels straight out of “Game ...

‘Gotham’: 7 Questions About ‘Selina Kyle’

by 10 mins ago

The mysteries of Gotham City are coming closer to stepping out of the shadows and into the light — and it’s all thanks to a little “Cat.”

On the latest episode of “Gotham,” Detective Jim Gordon makes a new young friend, while his other new young friend goes to extreme lengths to test his pain threshold. Elsewhere in the land of scum and villainy, Fish Mooney’s plans to take out Carmine Falcone threaten to boil over, while even further outside of Gotham’s city limits, a Penguin waddles to the beat of his own drummer.

It was a big episode for the new DC Comics series, yielding a ton of questions in the process. Such as…

1. What Does Selina Kyle Really Know?

gotham_selina_kyle

At the end of the episode, Selina calls for Gordon. She wants him to help make sure she’s not sent upstate to a juvenile detention center. In exchange, she can tell him who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne; she witnessed it all.

But what more does she know that we, the viewers, don’t? She saw what we saw — a masked gunman without many, or any, real distinguishing characteristics. Did she pursue the killer further? Has she seen him before? How will Selina’s knowledge impact the search for the Waynes’ murderer?

2. Are Bruce Wayne’s “Tests” Too Extreme?

Honestly, it’s hard to say. On the one hand, intentionally burning the palm of your hand is never a great ...

These Are The Survivors Of The ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff

by 49 mins ago

Only two weeks stand between now and the return of “The Walking Dead,” but it’s already worth keeping an eye on what lies beyond season five.

The upcoming “Walking Dead” spinoff is still a ways away, but AMC is starting the casting process for the officially ordered pilot episode. The spinoff, set to focus on all-new characters in an entirely different corner of the “Walking Dead” universe, will include roles for the following characters, according to TV Line:

Sean Cabrera, a 40-something Latino man, and his teenage son Cody. Sean is doing his best to treat everyone in life right, while Cody’s something of the opposite; he’s described as “whip-smart and rebellions,” and holds the distinction of being “the angriest kid in town.”

Meanwhile, there’s the Tompkins family including 30-something single mother Nancy, who “looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.” She’s the mother of “screwed up” teenager Nick, and “mostly level-headed” Ashley, who is as ambitious as her brother is a failure.

Finally, there’s a character described as a “wilted flower child,” reeling from a horrible marriage. Her name? Andrea Chapman. That’s right: another Andrea. Any relation to the late Andrea of the flagship “Walking Dead” series, or just a coincidence? Maybe the name’s just a place-holder for now.

There you have it: six of the new men and women making their way through the zombie apocalypse. With casting breakdowns already in circulation, it won’t be long before we hear some official casting news. ...
