Almost Every Spider-Man Costume In One Infographic

by 05/02/14

Like every superhero, Spider-Man has gone through many costume changes over the years. Hell, he’s even changing costumes between movies now.

That being the case, it can be hard to keep track of every outfit the wall-crawler has ever donned. Luckily, the folks over at Mashable have assembled a very helpful infographic to help keep them all of the major alternate costumes straight.

Check out the infographic below to get the rundown on Spider-Man’s most amazing suits with a little context about how each came to be.

Dane DeHaan: The Next Big Thing

by 05/01/14

When “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” opens in theaters this weekend, many audiences will be introduced to Dane DeHaan, the actor playing Harry Osborn, for the first time.

The past few years, DeHaan has been making a new for himself in roles that are lesser-known than the Green Goblin, and he grabbed attention from the critics almost immediately, thanks to his unique looks and the emotional weight he can bring to darker roles.

If you’re just becoming aware of DeHaan, there are more than a few movie and television roles of his that are worth checking out.

“In Treatment” (2010)

DeHaan made a splash playing Jesse, an adopted teen who seeks help from Dr. Paul Weston, on the HBO series “In Treatment.”

“True Blood” (2011)

In addition to his time on “In Treatment,” DeHaan also stopped by another HBO show for a three-episode stint as a werepanther.

“Chronicle” (2012)

People lucky enough to see the under-appreciated found footage superhero money were treated to a stellar breakout performance from DeHaan as the troubled Andrew.

“Lawless” (2012)

It’s not all dark for DeHaan. He got to show off some comedic chops as Shia LaBeouf’s dim-witted sidekick in the Prohibition crime drama.

“The Place Beyond the Pines” (2012)

This generational tale ends with DeHaan stealing the show from the likes of Bradley Cooper. Even if the last two thirds can’t stand up to the Gosling-focused open, it’s worth it to see DeHaan.

“Kill Your Darlings” (2013)

Daniel Radcliffe received raves for his performance as Allen Ginsberg, but he had a lot of help from DeHaan as ...

Every ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Ranked

by 05/01/14

With “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” opening in theaters this week, it’s time to take a swing down memory lane.

In 12 years, the wall crawler has starred in two very different series with two equally divergent, but quality performances. The common theme that runs through all of them, however, is that villains can make or break a movie.

I’m talking about you, Venom.

So without further ado, here’s is my ranking of the Spider-Man movies thus far.

5. “Spider-Man 3″

This is what happens when a studio doesn’t trust a talented and tested filmmaker like Raimi. What started as an emotional Sandman-focused story became a mess once Venom was shoehorned into the final product. Essentially everything the symbiote touches in “Spider-Man 3″ turns rotten. The real tragedy of this movie is that you can watch it and see Raimi’s original movie buried in there, past all of the misguided fan service. It’s a text book case of super villain glut, and in many ways, “Spider-Man 3″ ended the first part of the comic book movie renaissance.

4. “The Amazing Spider-Man”
amazing-spider-man
“The Amazing Spider-Man” is also a mess, but it’s an enjoyable mess. As the fourth movie in a series that began just a decade earlier, there was never a need or a desire from the audience to see another origin story. The time spent watching Uncle Ben die again would have been better served seeing more of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, the movie’s strongest element. He and his chemistry ...

Luke Skywalker Tweets From The ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Table Read

by 05/01/14

Pretty much everyone who has seen a “Star Wars” movie was excited to see the “Episode VII” cast assemble for the first table read, and that includes Luke Skywalker actor, Mark Hamill, who seemed pretty pumped himself.

Hamill had been long-rumored as a member of the cast, pretty much starting back when Disney and Lucasfilm first announced “Episode VII.” It’s great to finally see him talking openly about the new film.

The actor is fairly active on social media, so his Twitter account will be one to watch as filming on “Star Wars: Episode VII” begins.

“Star Wars: Episode VII” opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.

‘Star Wars’: I’m Not Saying Han Is Going To Die, But…

by 04/30/14

Earlier this week, Deadline published an update on “Star Wars: Episode VII” casting, a story that came close to predicting the official announcement that went out hours later.

But a detail buried toward the end of the story might be the one that defines the upcoming trilogy.

Many sites picked up on the note that Harrison Ford would return for “Episode VII” with a greatly expanded role. Deadline used the word “gigantic.” It was great news for fans of the original trilogy who are eager to see their beloved heroes back in action and not playing second fiddle to a group of new kids.

The diehards who know about some of what went on behind the scenes of the original trilogy, however, might have read that note as something more ominous.

Because if Han Solo really has a gigantic role in “Star Wars: Episode VII,” it’s probably because he’s going to die.

The death of Solo has been something Harrison Ford has been after since the ’80s. While working on “Return of the Jedi,” the actor wanted his character to follow an arc similar to the final film, expect he wouldn’t make it out at the end.

The story goes that Solo would have been the one piloting the Millennium Falcon at the end of “Jedi” but the ship wouldn’t have escaped the blast of the exploding Death Star.

In theory, “Episode VII” is giving Ford a second chance at the character sendoff he always wanted. Anyway, it’s inevitable that the focus ...

Jennifer Lawrence Kicks So Much Ass In The New ‘X-Men’ Clip

by 04/30/14

Ok, so that’s pretty cool.

A new clip from “X-Men: Days of Future Past” has premiered over at Yahoo!, and it gives us the first, non-trailer look at Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) in action.

Trask presents his new weapons system when someone in the room full of military leaders sets off the mutant alarm. Hmmm, I wonder who that could be…

Anyway, the action harkens back to the original trilogy and the Mystique we knew back then, which is another way of saying that she’s a badass.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens in theaters on May 23.

Spider-Man’s Sinister Six Revealed?

by 04/30/14

The Amazing Spider-Man 2” might not have the teaser-filled post-credits scene you’ve been hoping for, but with a little help from your phone, you can get a glimpse of what’s next for the wall crawler.

Using the Shazam app while listening to the Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar song, “It’s On Again,” reveals six(!) images related to well-known Spider-Man villains: Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture, Rhino and Mysterio.

A report from The Wrap suggests that neither Drew Goddard’s script for the Sinister Six spin-off nor the line-up has been finalized yet, but it would be hard to imagine a roster that looked much different from this.

That being the case, let’s take a look at each baddie to see what Spider-Man might have in store for him in the coming years.

Green Goblin

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. Of course Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin would make his way into the select group. Since he’s getting the first introduction, it makes sense to cast him as the de facto leader.

Doctor Octopus

The octopod villain got a tip of the hat near the end of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” and it no doubt means big things for the series. I mean, the last time Doc Ock showed up, he got his own movie.

How Spider-Man Got His ‘Amazing’ New Costume

by 04/29/14

“In everyone’s mind’s eye, you think ‘Oh, Spider-Man. He’s red and blue.’ “

Deborah Lynn Scott, the costume designer on “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” like the hundreds of artists who have drawn the character for Marvel Comics, knows very well that Peter Parker’s superhero outfit isn’t simply, “red and blue.” Spider-Man’s costume is deceptively intricate and has caused headaches for pencillers, inkers and costume designers since 1962.

In fact, the webbed pattern on the red portions became such a nuisance to artists in the early ’80s that Marvel introduced an entirely new, black costume as a way to avoid the design detail; a decision the company reversed four years later after outcries from the fans.

For “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” however, Scott would not only have to work within the parameters of the red and blue look, but she also needed to differentiate it from the previous drastic redesign in the first “Amazing Spider-Man” — a costume which was intended to look like something Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) could make himself. For the sequel, director Marc Webb handed Scott a different task.

“We wanted the most Spider-Man-y Spider-Man,” Scott said. And that’s what they did.

Sony, to avoid being scooped by the paparazzi during location shooting in New York, released an early first look at the costume before filming began, and reaction from hardcore fans was ecstatic. Essentially everything about Peter’s revamped costume had comic books readers drooling.

The costume’s success was the result of painstaking efforts ...
