Avril Lavigne Admits ‘I Don’t Want To Grow Up’

It’s hard to imagine, but 11 years ago this week, a 17-year-old Canadian punk pop star skated into our lives with her inescapable hit

Fast forward to 2013 and Avril Lavigne is still sporting her signature tank top and tie in the video for her latest single, reminding fans that it’s OK to be forever youthful.

“It’s pop rock, up-tempo. It’s a fun song,” Lavigne told MTV News. “It’s about wanting to be young forever. Doesn’t matter what age you are; it’s all about your spirit, state of mind. And I know I certainly don’t want to grow up, so there are more songs on the record like this.”

Despite rebelling against the angsts of aging, Lavigne has done a considerable amount of growing up in her personal life. The 28-year-old is sporting a massive ring from her fiancé, Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger, who not only helped co-write Lavigne’s first single, but also has a duet on her upcoming effort as well.

But that’s not all, following her last album,Goodbye Lullaby, Lavigne signed with Epic Records, reteaming her with L.A. Reid, who, along with Lavigne, knew that “Here’s to Never Growing Up” was going to be a hit.

“It felt good when I was recording it in the booth when I was singing it. I performed it at 11 o’clock at night and we were in this huge rush … so the producer stayed in the studio and pulled an all-nighter,” Lavigne explained. “And when I came back in the next day I heard it. I was like, ‘That sounds like a single, I think this is it.’ And when we played it for L.A., immediately he was like, ‘This is it. OK, let’s go; let’s put it out.’ I’m like, ‘What do you mean? I’m not done with my record.’ “
