How Many VMAs Does Iggy Azalea Want? ‘All The Awards’

by 5 mins ago

Additional reporting by Cory Midgarten

Knowing how intense awards-show campaigning can get (Mo’Nique’s 2010 Oscars speech really left an impression), we were curious to know just how badly Iggy Azalea hungered for a win at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. (She’s nominated for eight Moonmen, FYI.)

We caught up with the “Black Widow” rapper backstage after a rehearsal for her VMA performance with Rita Ora, and the verdict? “I would like to win all the awards for ‘Fancy.’”

After a beat, Iggy clarified, “I’d love to win an award,” followed by, “any award at all would be great.” Eventually, she even lowers her demands to “a ribbon.” I mean, do you want a $15 gift certificate to Little Caesars? I think I’ve got one hidden in my parents’ basement somewhere. If it didn’t expire in 1996, it’s totally yours, lady. You just have to invite me to come. And bring Rita. Thanks.

It's up to you to decide the winners of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards! Vote now and tune in Sunday, August 24, at 9/8c ET to see who wins at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Plus, get the latest updates from all your favorite VMA artists on the MTV Artists App.

26 Reasons Emma Stone Is Stone Cold Awesome

by 6 mins ago

We know it’s called “The Amazing Spider-Man,” but in all honesty, we think that the totally amazing part of those movies was Emma Stone.

The actress is our hypothetical best friend, quotable, cute and personable. Has she ever done anything wrong? Probably not!

Ahead, 26 reasons we are totally obsessed with Emma Stone.

1. She taught Woody Allen how to text

Yes, she’s so powerful and charming that she even got an avowed luddite to use a touchscreen. Emma! UR kewl!

2. She’s a psychic.

Whatever, just go with it.

3. She’s not afraid to call out sexism, even when it’s coming from her boyfriend.

At a Q&A, when Andrew Garfield called sewing “feminine,” Stone stopped him cold. “Feminine how?”

4. She can make Colin Firth blush.

And she live-texts like a pro.

5. Her real name isn’t Emma, but she totally owns it.

Buh…wuh…Emily?

6. She loves puns.

In a Vogue profile in which she visits Build-A-Bear with the writer, she drops both “exhi-bear-tionism” and “bear-ing all.”

7. When she hides her face from cameras, she’s doing it for charity.

Remember that time that she and Andrew Garfield just melted your heart with goodness?

8. She got her big break on a reality TV show.

Yep, she was first discovered on “In Search of the Partridge Family.”

9. She brought holiday cheer to a military base…

with Bill Murray!

10. She can sing and dance!

Jimmy Fallon, Jim Carrey And More Added To VMA Presenter List

by 10 mins ago

It’s known about town that the Video Music Awards are the biggest party around, so it’s no surprise everyone wants in on the fun. And we’re pleased to announce that joining this year’s line-up as presenters are talented and generally funny people Jimmy Fallon, Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and Chelsea Handler.

But this isn’t any of their first rodeo (if the VMAs were a rodeo, which they kind of are). Let’s take a look back at the new presenter’s MTV history.

Jimmy Fallon

The “Tonight Show” host can relax at this year’s show. Instead of hosting the whole darn thing he’ll only be handing out a Moon Man (like he did last year presenting buddy Justin Timberlake with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award). Fallon was cemented as one of the funniest hosts of all time when he took a turn entertaining the crowd for the 2002 VMAs, crushing an opening musical bit that had him doing everything from learning how to enunciate “Hot In Herrrrrrrre” from Nelly, to singing Enrique Iglesias‘s “Hero” magestically blowing in the wind.

Chelsea Handler

Handler hosted the 2010 VMAs, when she made an elaborate entrance, fan-girled for Justin Bieber, and got a pep talk from Lindsay Lohan. We can’t wait to see what snarkiness she brings this year.

Jim Carrey

A longtime member of the MTV family, Carrey once showed up to our awards show in full character. At the 1999 MTV Movie Awards Carrey, nominated for Best Male Performance ...

Watch Iggy Azalea Take A Nasty Spill Off The Stage During Her Pre-VMA Show

by 23 mins ago

The VMAs almost lost one of its biggest performers to an unplanned stage dive on August 22. But luckily, Iggy Azalea’s just fancy enough that she can fall off stage and get right back up, without missing a beat.

The breakout pop star of 2014 was rapping her signature song, “Fancy,” at Time Warner Cable and Lifebeat’s MTV Music Video Awards concert at the Avalon, when she took a bad step and fell right off the proscenium.

The video is scary to watch, but don’t worry: Iggy’s not just OK, she’s laughing about it.

Her message to fans reads, “Sorry but it would be a crime not to share this with you all, I know I laughed. #StillFinishedtheSongTho #KeptOnRapping #TheShowMustGoOn.”

All right, Iggy. If you’re laughing, we’re laughing. Just be careful! The VMAs are one day away, and we can’t afford to lose you.

You can check out another angle in TMZ‘s video, here:

Kristen Bell Surprises Fans At ‘Frozen’ Sing Along Screening

by 4 mins ago

“Frozen” may have come out the better part of a year ago, but guess what — we’re still not ready to let it go.

Neither, it would seem, is star Kristen Bell. The actress, who voiced the part of flame-haired Princess Anna, surprised fans at a special sing-along screening of the blockbuster animated Disney musical at the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles last night.

The actress introduced the screening to the delight of fans, as captured by Entertainment Weekly in the Instagram above and Disney’s Bruce Wright on Twitter.

Of course, it doesn’t come with your very own walking, talking, sloth-loving Bell, but come November 18, everyone will be able to sing along with “Frozen” at home (with accurate lyrics, thanks to a running karaoke-style subtitle) when a special edition DVD is released.

We’re just wondering why we still haven’t seen Olaf in the flesh. Summer’s tough for snowmen, we guess.

Malin Akerman And Carla Gugino Make Out For The Ice Bucket Challenge: Watch

by 16 mins ago

I have no idea if we’ve hit peak Ice Bucket Challenge, but if we haven’t, Carla Gugino and Malin Akerman are trying to get us there.

The two, who, just to make things weirder, played mother and daughter in Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen,” were challenged to the charity craze that’s sweeping the nation by their former director, and decided the best way to help the cause would be to make out with each other during the filming.

The camera pans up to show the two making out to the song “Je T’Aime,” as if the pair are in some kind of faux-serious French art film. And then, per the nature of the challenge, an unseen person, who apparently was watching them make out the whole time (is that what being a personal assistant is like?) dumps a bucket of water on them.

Related: Here Are The Rules To The Ice Bucket Challenge

It’s surreal and doesn’t make any sense, but hey, at least it’s for a good cause. Carla challenged Danny DeVito, Juliette Lewis, and Jason Weinberg, while Malin challenged Dan Stevens, Bradley Whitford, and Nicol Paone.

Ok, I’ll be honest: a Danny DeVito Ice Bucket Challenge sounds awesome. I just hope it’s not video of him making out with Bradley Whitford.

Actually, I kind of do.

Celebrities Have Brought Some Super Weird Things To The VMAs

by 4 mins ago

As a wise prophet once said, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” Wait, that wasn’t a prophet. Those were the orphans from “Annie,” and they were wrong as f–k when it comes to the VMAs.

To stand out at MTV’s annual music awards show, you’ve gotta bring more to the table than just ridiculously expensive designer fashions. We’re talking raw meat, live snakes, or even an easily corruptible foam finger. Below are some of the weirdest things people have brought to the VMAs before, so you 2014 MTV Video Music Awards attendees better take note.

Nicki Minaj brought this, like, menagerie of sewn-together stuffed animals in 2011.

New ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Teaser Will Make You Swear Off Lollipops

by 3 mins ago

Whatever you think about Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” as a whole, you have to give the show credit for its advertising campaign, which many times, like with last season’s snake posters, is just as horrifying as the actual season.

Since this season is called “Freak Show,” it promises to raise the bar on the terrifying, gross things we’ve seen in previous incarnations, and while the first teaser gave us only a small taste, this second teaser begins to deliver on that promise.

It starts off innocently enough: a man goes to lick a lollipop. Just another fun day at the circus, right? Well, sure, until we discover that the man’s tongue is essentially cut in two, and watch both ends slither around the pop like two halves of a snake.

Yeah, it’s gonna be that kind of season. And honestly, we can’t wait.

“American Horror Story” returns to FX on October 8.

Usher Promises Something He’s Never Done Before At The VMAs

by 16 mins ago

Usher has no competition. The MTV Video Music Awards veteran will put on his third solo performance at the big show on Sunday, August 24 and he promises to leave it all out there.

“All I wanted to give my fans is the UR experience,” Usher told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway on Friday (August 22) after he rehearsed at the Forum in Los Angeles California.

“UR” of course is the singer’s initials and he’s been one of music’s top performers since he dropped his debut album 20 years ago in 1994.

Usher plans to drop his eighth album later this year and has already released two singles from the LP (“Good Kisser” and “She Came To Give It To You,” with Nicki Minaj). Whatever he chooses to perform, we’re sure it’s going to be epic. The last time Usher performed in 2010, he brought his “OMG” single to life right before our eyes.

“Everybody, all of the executives, all of my creative people and team, they’ve been on-board and the VMAs really did give me an opportunity to paint an incredible picture,” Usher said. “But it is expansive, it does feel like nothing I’ve done before.”

Usher says he’s not trying to outdo his last VMA performance or any other artist. He just wants to give it his best shot. “I never approached this show — others yeah, but not this show, that I should go out here and try to beat someone else,” he said. “I just feel like I ...
