This Is How Mac Miller Got Into The Christmas Spirit Last Year

by 5 mins ago

There may have not been any snow on the ground when Christmas rolled around in California last year, but that didn’t stop Mac Miller from getting into the holiday spirit.

In this sneak peek of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family,” Mac and his friends search for the perfect pine tree — with the help of a skinny Santa look-alike — to adorn his L.A. pad. When the “Most Dope” rapper stumbles upon what looks to be a keeper, Jimmy questions whether its backside is up to par.

“It’s got no booty,” Mac says, then shares some wisdom. “We shouldn’t be too picky, because what really makes Christmas Christmas is the spirit.”

Mac Miller the sage strikes again.

Check out the clip to see which tree Mac finally chooses, and don’t miss “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family” tonight at 11:30/10:30c on MTV2!

Think Tank Blames Intern For Tweet Telling Amnesty International To ‘Suck It’

by 16 mins ago

Interns are often stereotyped as overeager, coffee-wielding victims of mundane tasks and lousy pay. But here’s a pro tip: Internships are actually really important, and if you want to get hired full-time one day, maybe try not to embarrass your boss with a colossal mistake and/or international incident.

Earlier this week, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank called the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which regularly hosts talks by U.S. and foreign leaders, raised eyebrows when a strangely malicious tweet was sent from its account in reply to human rights organization Amnesty International. Amnesty’s tweet read, “US can’t tell other countries to improve their records on policing and peaceful assembly if it won’t clean up its own human rights record,” referring to Ferguson, Missouri.

CSIS’s reply — broadcast to the account’s 81,000+ followers — read, “Your work has saved far fewer lives than American interventions. So, suck it.”

Soon after, CSIS scrambled to repair the damage, deleting the tweet and assuring followers that it was posted “in error.”

But since this is 2014 and Twitter never sleeps, the reply was saved and screengrabbed dozens of times over. Andrew Schwartz, vice president for external relations at CSIS, explained to BuzzFeed that the culprit responsible for the embarrassing tweet was actually an intern. “It was sent by a CSIS intern who had access to our account for monitoring purposes,” he said. “Apparently he meant to send something reflecting his personal views from his personal Twitter account.”

Schwartz didn’t comment ...

Action Bronson Goes On A Drug-Fueled Ride In ‘Easy Rider’ Video

by 26 mins ago

One thing you will not get when watching an Action Bronson music video: Stereotypical rap video stuff. What you can count on is plenty of hilarity and creativity, which he again delivered on Wednesday (August 20), with the release of “Easy Rider.”

The first single from his upcoming album Mr. Wonderful, the Party Supplies-produced track takes its name from the 1969 film starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. The Tom Gould-directed visuals also borrow from the movie, as they find Bronsalino taking drugs and hitting the open road on his motorcycle.

There’s also an epic scene at the end of the video where Bronson stands atop a mountain and jams out on an electric guitar. So, yeah.

Mr. Wonderful is scheduled to drop later this year.

Drake Hit The VMA Stage Before He Was Even A Star — Which Was A Sign Of Things To Come

by 36 mins ago

I’m willing to bet the first time you heard Drake, you didn’t even know it.

And I’m willing to bet I know what rhymes you heard: “I am on a 24-hour champagne diet/ Spilling while I’m sipping, I encourage you to try it.”

And I’m willing to bet you didn’t hear them out of Drake’s mouth, but instead, from Lil Wayne.

That’s because when Tunechi took the stage to perform at the 2008 VMAs, instead of rapping his own lyrics, he recited a Drake verse to a then-unreleased “Money to Blow” over an instrumental from Tha Carter III‘s “Misunderstood.” Though the track ended up being a hit for Birdman, Wayne, and Drake, when the catchy bars entered Weezy’s mic that night, the kid from Toronto was largely an unknown.

And such was the start of a string of special moments for Champagne Papi and the VMAs.

Just months after that performance, Drake dropped So Far Gone, and the hits began to pile up. He scored a nomination for Best New Artist for “Best I Ever Had” in 2009. And when he released his major label debut, Thank Me Later, the following year, it was only right he hit the VMA stage for the annual event.

“I just really remember like how nervous I was at my first VMAs,” he told MTV News last year, recalling that September 2010 performance, when he brought out Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz to help him perform “Fancy.” “It’s one thing to be ...

Kanye West Became A VMA Legend In 2004 And Hasn’t Looked Back Since

by 7 mins ago

All praises due to Marc Anthony, because it was the salsa singer and actor who gave Kanye West his proper MTV Video Music Awards introduction in 2004, right before Yeezy set off an inspiring medley of hits that including “Jesus Walks,” “All Falls Down” and “Through the Wire.”

It was the performance that started ‘Ye’s VMA legend, which will continue 10 years later on Sunday at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, where his “Black Skinhead” is nominated for Best Hip Hop Video.

Yes, technically West has been impacting the VMAs since the 2001 Award show, when Jay Z performed “Izzo,” a song that Kanye produced, but ever since the G.O.O.D. Music captain graced the stage for the first time in ’04, he’s continued to give fans something to look forward to.

Let’s look back at the legend of Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The Introduction

You’re Doing It Wrong: Here Are The Rules To The Ice Bucket Challenge

by 16 mins ago

Last night, I was officially challenged to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the charity craze that’s sweeping the nation, and I gracefully accepted. Only one problem: where are the rules?

As far as I could find (through copious searching), no one, including ALSA, has written down exactly how you do the Ice Bucket Challenge, leading to a fair amount of confusion. How much should the donation be? Do I have to donate if I drench myself? Is there a temperature requirement on the water?

With that in mind, and with the Challenge still going strong, here’s a list of everything you actually need to do, to make that icy bucket of freezing water count:

1. Get Challenged

kate upton kaley cuoco ice bucketInstagram

This is a pretty important step that’s getting ignored as more people want to “go viral” with their “hilarious” Ice Bucket videos: you need to actually be challenged in order to do the, you know, Challenge.

It’s like a game of telephone, basically. A friend, coworker, or bitter enemy will do a video, and call out three other people to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Those three people need to call out three others, and so on, and so forth leading to a branch-like spread of the Challenge.

You can absolutely still donate to ALSA, but if you haven’t been challenged, please sit patiently by your computer and wait.

2. Accept The Challenge

6 Butterbeer Recipes Even Muggles Can Try

by 24 mins ago

Anyone who has ever read the “Harry Potter” books or seen any of the eight movies chronicling the life of the boy wizard wonder has an acute case of FOMOOB by now. Don’t know what that stands for? Duh: Fear Of Missing Out On Butterbeer. All we ever hear about is Butterbeer this, Butterbeer that, Butterbeer is so great and tasty and delicious and magical.

So, like, when can we try it? The official, J.K. Rowling-sanctioned recipe, a dual layer concoction that’s liquidy on the bottom and foamy on top, is only served at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, and Florida can only fit so many wizarding wannabes at a time. What’s an unmatriculated Hogwarts hopeful to do?

The answer, fellow Muggles (who have self-sorted into Ravenclaw anyway, thank you very much), is finally here. It’s time for us to make kitchen magic (or Starbucks magic, if that’s the route you decide to go) and whip up some Butterbeer.

Ahead, six Butterbeer recipes even Muggles can enjoy.

1. Hot-n-Sweet

From the Food Network’s Sandra Lee comes a quick, hot version of the drink that will dirty a bunch of dishes so fast you’ll think it’s magic. But this sweet, buttery drink sounds delightful and makes us wish for January.

2. A great way to annoy your barista

8-Bit ‘Sin City’ Is The Best Video Game Never Made

by 6 mins ago

It turns out, the perfect movie video game is “Sin City.”

Don’t believe us? Well, with “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” opening this week, the folks at Cinefix released their latest 8-bit masterwork with “8-Bit Cinema — Sin City,” and their imagining of the game is so good it makes me want to dig up my old SNES and play.

While Clive Owen’s Dwight and Bruce Willis’ Hartigan are of course main characters, the true highlights are the avatars of Marv and Miho. In fact, it was right when Marv took one of the cops and did his finishing move by jumping down the level and body-slamming him that I realized I actually needed the game in my life. And his jacket as his level-up? Perfection.

But Miho is arguably more awesome, as you get to wield two katanas and slice open every baddie you see, including an 8-bit Benicio Del Toro.

The makers of course had a wry sense of humor in the game, adding levels of 8-bit ultra-violence you probably never saw on those early generation cartridge consoles (not sure what my parents would’ve thought if they had seen me ripping off the Yellow Bastards testes, 8-bit or not).

To anyone who played these games as a kid and watches the video, the only downside will be that you’ll probably never get to play this game (someone start a Kickstarter, STAT!). Still, at this we have this glorious 3+ minutes.
