Back To School Guide: Here’s The Gear Guys Need

by 22 mins ago

Everyone hates to hear “back to school” talk, but a smart guy embraces it early. You want to start now so it’s not a huge, stressful headache to do it all at the last minute. That will only ruin your last days of summer, the days when you’re supposed to be squeezing in the last drops of beach time, or bonfire camping time, or water slide time…you get the idea. If you start buying your things today, you’ll barely notice the smooth transition into fall. Here are seven must-have products to get you started.

The SL Loop Runner

SL_Loop_Lookbook_Red2.jpg

Choosing a pair of classic kicks is always a smart move. That’s why they’re called “classics.” adidas made history at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games when they unveiled their original sport lifestyle shoe, the SL 72. Over 40+ years, these have become a staple for athletic guys to wear when they’re not competing — unless it’s competing in kicking back. Now they’ve introduced their latest addition to the family, the SL Loop Runner. They still have that classic design (fun, simple and clean) but with a unique spin for this year. Available in red, green, blue and black, they’ll complement any look.
Price: $75

Kate Nash’s ‘She Rules’ Video Is Like If The ’90s Had Instagram

by 35 mins ago

Kate Nash has a new song and music video, and it’s all her own. The British singer-songwriter not only wrote and recorded “She Rules” herself, but she edited its video on iMovie. Clearly, the girl gang needs no fancy treatments.

“She is the one that I can count on/ She will be what I need to function/ She’ll make it happen/ Yeah, she makes sh– happen,” Nash sings in a lazy, matter-of-fact voice before launching into the chorus: “She rules/ And I need her.”

The DIY vibe triumphs in the vid, as Kate and her friends and family dance it up in their bedrooms, backyards and at the beach. So, bust out your sunnies, dye your hair an unnatural color (throw it up in a high-pony or cut your bangs), slip on something floral and make a move. That’s all you need to do.

Is ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Anti-Gun? We Asked The Experts

by 6 mins ago

The critics and the people have spoken, and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is a bona fide summer success.

The sequel to the 2011 James Franco reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a stunning achievement for motion capture acting and definitely an action-heavy blockbuster, but much of the buzz surrounding the film has largely centered around how refreshingly profound and thoughtful it is — particularly on the issue of violence. Gun violence, to be exact. (Spoilers ahead.)

“You’ll hear instances where actors have said, ‘I won’t appear in a movie poster with guns,’ or directors will say, ‘I will never put a gun in my movie,’ but there certainly aren’t many examples where [blockbusters] tackle this head on,” Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, told MTV News over the phone. “In this case, it very compellingly shows that before the gun was introduced, a fight was a fight. And now, when a gun is introduced, it has a much greater chance at turning lethal.”

Pretty crazy for a franchise that launched starring former N.R.A. spokesman Charlton Heston, no?

Backing up a bit, the film takes place ten years after the Simian Flu from “Rise” wiped out most of humanity. Both the surviving humans and the newly intelligent apes have managed to build small, peaceful communities with their own established rules, with “no killing” being a pretty essential rule for all of them. Eventually the communities intersect, with key members from the human ...

The “X Factor” U.K. judge confirmed the news herself on Instagram on Sunday, showing off her massive engagement ring and her diamond-encrusted wedding band from her restaurateur husband.

According to The Mirror the Girls Aloud singer reportedly tied the knot on a beach on Macaroni Beach in Mustique in front of only four guests, including her mom, Joan Callaghan.

Daniel Radcliffe Is The Devil In First ‘Horns’ Posters

by 29 mins ago

We’ve been dying to see anything from “Horns,” the eagerly anticipated adaptation of Joe Hill’s critically acclaimed novel, pretty much since we first heard news of the project. Starring Daniel Radcliffe as a man accused of killing his girlfriend (Juno Temple) — who wakes up one morning with very satanic looking horns growing out of his head — the dark fantasy novel is superb, and begging for a film adaptation.

Happily, director Alexandre Aja (“The Hills Have Eyes”) complied, though it’s been a good long time since we’ve heard anything about the film. With a San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring Hill, Aja and Radcliffe on the horizon, though, things are heating up (like the flames of Hell, etc, etc).

Empire Magazine has the first teaser poster, which not only shows off a non-horned look at Radcliffe’s dark turn in the movie, but also finally gives us an appropriate release date: Halloween.

Horns

At least, that’s the date for UK cinemas. Whether the movie will land domestically at the same time is still to be confirmed, though Hill did tease on Twitter that the movie would be out in October. Stay tuned for more (including a surely impending trailer).

The REAL Story Behind Philly’s Marble Statue Of ‘Ron Swanson’

by 35 mins ago

Today on Reddit, someone posted a photo of “a majestic marble sculpture of Ron Swanson at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly,” which currently has 3,250 upvotes. And no doubt, it does appear to be a glorious visage of “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman:

Ron Swanson StatueImgur

Just one problem: It’s not actually Nick Offerman, whose theatrical roots go back to Illinois, as opposed to Pennsylvania. (This isn’t the first time the Offerman resemblance has caught the internet’s notice.) In fact, the statue commemorates Shakespearean actor Edwin Forrest, whose career started at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre in 1820.

Still, despite living in different centuries, the two actors have one thing in common: Woodworking. Offerman is famously a craftsman, and Forrest worked as a cooper, an occupation defined as “someone who makes wooden, staved vessels [such as] casks, barrels, buckets, tubs, butter churns, hogsheads, firkins, tierces, rundlets, puncheons, pipes, tuns, butts, pins and breakers.” Yeah, that sounds about right. Time travel probably explains it all.

Forrest was likewise known for being cantankerous, and his feud with a British Shakespearean actor (whom Forrest hissed at during performances) led to a full-scale riot. Oh yeah, Forrest once whipped a dude in public while shouting “this man is the seducer of my wife.”

We had to know more about Offerman’s historical doppelganger — and his marble tribute — so we called ...

Go Inside Jessica Simpson And Eric Johnson’s Picture-Perfect Wedding

by 14 mins ago

It doesn’t get much more beautiful than this.

On Monday (July 14) People released an intimate 2-minute video that takes you inside Jessica Simpson’s lavish wedding to former NFL player, Eric Johnson.

275 guests attended the nuptials on July 5 and watched as Jessica’s father, Joe Simpson, introduced “Mr. and Mrs. Eric Johnson,” for the first time.

With the score from the 1998′s “Great Expectations” playing, the happy couple, who are proud parents of two, made their way down the aisle in front of their friends and family. Jessica — wearing a gorgeous custom Carolina Herrera strapless champagne and gold tulle gown — only has eyes for her new husband as she gives him a kiss on his hand.

“It’s so surreal,” Jessica told People. “This has been something we’ve wanted ever since we met.”

Guests inside the reception at Montecito’s San Ysidro Ranch were treated to a truly picture-perfect affair. With a romantic, vintage feel, loved ones sat under a tent, complete with string lights, rustic floral arrangements and ate the metallic gold wedding cake off place settings that were pieced together from old tea sets.

From the looks of it, there was plenty of dancing going on at the wedding as well. Guests, including Jessica’s recently engaged sister and maid of honor, Ashlee, is seen hitting the dance floor, while Donald Faison and Cacee Cobb showed off their moves to the live band.

“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our ...
