by 15 mins ago

By Gil Kaufman and John Walker

America: Love it or… eat 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes. It is the Fourth of July, after all, so while you’ll try to avoid getting salmonella from potato salad that’s been sitting out all day and make sure your little cousin doesn’t blow his fingers off with an M-80, we have more patriotic things in mind, like compiling the 17 most ‘America F–k Yeah!’ moments of the year so far.

It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.

1. U.S. Goalie Tim Howard
Sure, they lost a heartbreaker to Belgium on Tuesday, but Howard was a beast. USA! USA!

2. And For A Minute We All Loved Soccer
But then, you know, we were over it.

3. “Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills”
The reality series’ entire existence.

4. Nirvana’s Girl Power Rock Hall Induction
Lorde, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent and Joan Jett destroyed it.

5. Iggy Azalea’s Homage To American Cinema
What’s more downhome, salt-of-the-earth American than “Fancy,” a music video made by an Australian rapper and a British singer inspired by a Hollywood studio film that’s based on a 19th-century English novel? Wait.

6. Apple Spends 3 Billie On Beats
What’s more American than Apple dropping $3 billion to acquire Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre’s headphone company? From N.W.A to 1 Infinite Loop Way.

‘Begin Again’: What Do The Critics Think Of Adam Levine?

by 13 mins ago

Ah yes, fourth of July weekend. It’s one of the biggest weekends of the year for the cinematic box office, rife with blockbusters and mega-action flicks aplenty. But what’s out there for those of us who may not be so keen on spending their movie-watching hours digging into, say, a movie about autobots? There’s John Carney’s (he of “Once” fame) latest, “Begin Again,” which eschews singer-songwriters as actors for movie stars-as-singers (Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo) — with the exception of Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine.

Given the film’s indie feel, loveletter to New York air, and warm-fuzzy love thing as told through music, plenty of you out there are likely want to see it. (Director John Carney’s first film, “Once,” may have made you feel the same.) But is the film worth your time? And just how good is Levine in his big screen debut? We’ve scoured the Internet to see what the critics have to say so you know exactly what you’re in for when you head to the cineplex. (Yes, we said cineplex. Just go with it.) Turns out? Begin Again feels like the musical romantic comedy you’ve been waiting for

The Music is Fun
“I reveled in the charm, the romance and most of all the bevy of terrific songs, composed by Gregg Alexander, the pop maestro behind the short-lived 1990s project New Radicals. (If you still turn up the volume on your earbuds when “You Get What You Give” comes on, ...

Listen To G-Unit Drop Verses Over YG’s ‘Who Do You Love?’

by 20 mins ago

50 Cent promised us a G-Unit mixtape before an official reunion album drops later this year, and at the rate that they’re releasing new music, that tape should be ready very soon.

For their second release in three days, the Unit jacks another DJ Mustard beat, rapping over YG’s “Who Do You Love?” and dropping it just in time for July 4 BBQs. Previously, they decided to spit over Mustard production on “Don’t Tell Em,” and now we’re starting to wonder if he’ll be involved in production on the official LP.

Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Listen to G-Unit’s “Who Do You Love (remix)” above, and also check out their freestyle over “Move That Dope.”

Forget Maui: ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Teaser Visits Universe’s Hottest Vacation Spots

by 4 mins ago

“Hawaii, Tahiti, the Bahamas — some of the most beautiful destinations on Earth … all look like sh– compared to the rest of the galaxy.”

That’s the official stance of Galaxy Getaways, the universe’s premier travel company, responsible for helping you discover the galaxy’s most exotic location. This is not a thing that actually exists, mind you; it’s simply some very clever, and very fun viral marketing for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the upcoming Marvel Studios movie that blasts off for the stars later this summer.

The Galaxy Getaways video contains some new clips from “Guardians,” including one particularly memorable glimpse at Drax the Destroyer destroying some beverages at a bar, with Rocket Raccoon cheering on. Beyond the video, the Galaxy Getaways website offers an even closer look at some of the universe’s hottest destinations — places we’re certain to see when “Guardians” hits theaters.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, “Guardians of the Galaxy” hits theaters on August 1.

Is Lea Michele Pregnant?

by 12 mins ago

This morning, Lea Michele took to Twitter to make a very special announcement: the “Glee” star is pregnant! Recently, Lea was spotted out in public with her new boyfriend Matthew Paetz, but it looks like the pair are taking things to another level.

Michele and Paetz met while filming on the set of her video “On My Way” back in April, and it’s the first time that Lea has been in a relationship since her boyfriend Cory Monteith died from a drug overdose last year.

Michele, 27, wrote that she wanted to share the news with her fans before the media found out, and she hashtagged the tweet with “#BabyBoy.”

Does this mean she already knows the sex of her baby? Or maybe she’s just trying to make a Beyonce reference? Hopefully this isn’t another case of Twitter hacking—Michele’s fellow “Glee” cast member Chris Colfer had his Twitter account hacked yesterday.

If the news is true, we couldn’t be happier for you Lea!

The 160 Greatest Words Ever Said During Independence Day

by 39 mins ago

Happy Independence Day! It’s the Fourth of July, the most patriotic American holiday there is, and as such, it’s worth revisiting some of the most inspirational words ever uttered on this glorious day.

In fact, here are the 160 greatest words anyone has ever said during Independence Day, without question:

“Good morning.”

“In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.”

“Mankind — that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.”

“Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom — not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution … but from annihilation.”

“We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist. And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice…”

“We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!”

“We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive!”

“Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!”

Seriously, though — that speech. Watch it here:

“Independence Day” is a national treasure (but not part of the “National Treasure” franchise) (even though it should be) and can (and should) ...

13 Most Over-The-Top Diva Renditions Of The National Anthem

by 46 mins ago

With today being the Fourth of July and all, I feel it’s my civic duty to unite us, if but for a short time, with the one act of blind patriotism we can all get behind: counting down the most over-the-top, overwhelming renditions of the national anthem, as performed by Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and the rest of your favorite divas of pop music. (In no particular order, of course, so please don’t tweet me death threats. Thanks!)

To clarify, by national anthem I mean “The Star-Spangled Banner” only. (As in, the actual, official national anthem.) That means that neither Aretha Franklin singing “My Country, ‘Tis Of Thee” at the 2009 presidential inauguration nor the bejeweled-bow hat she wore at said inauguration are on the list. Pour out a vial of eagle tears in mourning, and move past it. Your country needs you. Please rise.

1. Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV, 1991
There’s a reason we’ve invented the phrase “I CAN’T,” and this is it. Literally, the gold standard of national anthem performances.

2. Beyoncé at the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show Press Conference, 2013
After being accused of lip-synching “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration on January 21 of that year, Bey used her halftime show press conference to prove that she’s more than capable of vocally annihilating the song. She also demonstrated one of the unsung benefits of singing the national anthem: automatic ...
