‘Vampire Academy’ Star Lucy Fry Signs Up To Fight Ghosts With Kevin Bacon

by 05/08/14

By Kat Rosenfield

Lucy Fry made a lovely vampire, but her next big role will find her on the human side of a supernatural conflict. According to Deadline, the lanky “Vampire Academy” actress is officially on board for the upcoming haunted-house thriller “6 Miranda Drive.”

Fry will star as the smart, shy daughter of a couple played by Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell, whose lives are thrown into chaos when a ghostly presence follows the family home from a trip to the Grand Canyon.

The actress is a small-screen regular in her native Australia, but American audiences will recognize Lucy from her turn as the elegant Lissa Dragomir in this year’s “Vampire Academy.” (She was the gorgeous, sylph-like blonde with her teeth in Zoey Deutch’s neck.)

Her next film, “Now Add Honey,” is slated for release later this year.

Not much is known about “6 Miranda Drive” apart from its creepy, one-sentence premise, but serious scares can be expected. The film is being distributed by the atmospheric horror connoisseurs at Blumhouse Productions and directed by Greg McLean, who also helmed cult favorite flick “Wolf Creek.” And assuming that it follows the usual scary-movie protocol, it should give Lucy a great chance to show off her scream queen skills for the first time.

Imagine Dragons Get Pranked Hard By Nico Vega — Oh, How We Laughed

by 05/08/14

If you’re down with Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds’ belt-out-like-damn vocals on “Radioactive,” you’ll be way into Nico Vega singer Aja Volkman’s take on the jam. Really, guys, it’s an eardrum-burster — literally.

Nico Vega, who plan to drop their new record Lead To Light this summer, like to mess around while on tour — especially with long-time friends Imagine Dragons.

Many jokes were made, pranks played — but one, executed by Volkman, stood out in particular. It involves one wily monitor guy, a crowd of thousands and some truly terrible-rific vocals courtesy of Volkman who is, by the way, married to Reynolds.

That’s one way to keep the spark alive.

The ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Needs These 9 Mighty Morphin’ Characters

by 05/08/14

It’s morphing time — or, at least, it’s almost morphing time.

Lionsgate, home of the “Hunger Games” films, is set to reboot the “Power Rangers” franchise as a new series of feature films. It’s an unexpected move that shook the Internet to its core, causing clusters of friends to activate their comically-sized wristwatches and meet in private to discuss disaster management.

If there’s one way to manage the potential crisis, it’s this: Lionsgate, do what you will with the “Power Rangers” franchise, but if you want to win over longtime fans of the series, there are a few characters from the glory days that need to factor into the movie. And here they are:

Zordon
You can’t have “Power Rangers” without the crew’s esteemed, disembodied, floating head of a leader.

Alpha
Ai-yay-yay! Without this never-endingly nervous android in play, who else could possibly recruit a team of teenagers with attitude?

Bulk and Skull
More specifically, actors Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy. They need a cameo. They are “Power Rangers,” as much, if not more, than any other actors in the series. Also, dat music.

Rita Repulsa
If only because Cate Blanchett or some other Oscar winner as the cackling space sorceress is a thing the world needs to see.

Goldar
With wings or without. Preferably with. Get Keanu Reeves to play him; he already has action experience, and familiarity with playing unrecognizable, dog-faced freaks.

The Putty Patrol
And keep their signature weakness intact, please. Kids these days need to realize that sometimes, ...

Justin Bieber Made This Belieber’s Head Explode

by 05/08/14

Sometimes it’s just the little things you do. Take, for instance, a small gesture Justin Bieber made Thursday morning (May 8) when he reposted a cartoon image a fan made of him shirtless holding a skateboard.

The flattering pen and ink portrait was made by a tattoo artist who goes by ifirstdance and it was based on a shot Bieber posted a day earlier from Venice Beach.

And let’s just say that the artist was completely freaking out all morning about the unexpected shout-out.

Check Out Our Interactive Justin Bieber Tat Map.

The freak-out just went on and on and it was pretty cute. A few of our favorites:

Is ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ The Best ‘X-Men’ Movie Ever?

by 05/08/14

If you were worried that “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is overstuffed with mutants, or that a very strange looking Quicksilver would bring down the whole house, or any other scattered fears you might have — well, perhaps it’s time to put them to bed.

The newest “X-Men” movie, directed by Bryan Singer, hits theaters in two weeks, but it’s already screening for critics. Late last night saw a smattering of online reactions from press members who attended the “X-Men” screening, and by and large, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

In fact, depending on who you ask, “Days of Future Past” just might be the best “X-Men” movie yet:

FOX 5 film critic Kevin McCarthy had similarly high praise for the movie:

In fact, according to McCarthy, the whole movie is worth seeing for one moment alone:

What could that scene involve? Something between the old and young generations of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, perhaps? Maybe something involving Wolverine?

Or could it be… something entirely unexpected?

Quicksilver? Really? This guy?

Really. This guy. Apparently, people who saw “Days of Future Past” love Quicksilver.

So, what do we take from all this? A grain of salt, if you’re smart. This is just an early look at “Days of Future Past,” hardly representative of a wider field of reactions, but still — it’s encouraging, and even a bit surprising, at least as far as Quicksilver goes.

Could Evan Peters’ mutant, who up until now was a laughing stock among most fans, turn out to be one of the best on-screen ...

Vic Mensa Found Out About His XXL Freshman Cover Hours Before It Happened

by 05/08/14

Vic Mensa was excited to be selected for the cover of this year’s XXL Freshman issue, which dropped online earlier this week. So much so, in fact, that the Chicago MC pulled an all-nighter to make it to the mag’s photo shoot.

“I heard the night before they shot it, actually, and then I flew out to New York the next day,” he told MTV News recently, while we visited him on the set of his “Feel That” video. “I was in the studio, making this record called ‘Grand Prix,’ and then I got that call, and then we flew out early in the morning. I didn’t even go to sleep.”

As one of just 12 artists on this year’s cover, the Save Money crew member sounded eager to capitalize on the opportunity. But he was just as enthused — if not more so — that three of his fellow Chicagoans were also selected.

“I’m psyched, ’cause the crib is well represented: It’s four Chicago artists on there, including myself,” he said, referencing Chance the Rapper, Lil Durk and Lil Bibby, as well. “It’s awesome.”

Still, Vic hopes this moment will merely mark an ackowledgement of the music he’s making and the fanbase he’s building.

“It’s a testament to a lot of work, and to what I’m doing,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s not the accolades and labels and awards that make you or break you. It’s what I do in the studio. It’s that elbow grease when I’m cookin’ ...

‘American Idol’ Recap: Caleb And Jena Shut It Down

by 05/07/14

After last week’s “Hunger Games”-style “shocking surprise,” in which the final five said “no thanks” to saving one of their own from elimination, “American Idol”‘s final four had a lot on the line Wednesday night (May 7).

In a season that has seen as much controversy as this, (i.e. none at all), front-runner Caleb Johnson might have opened the door this week thanks to his unfortunate slam against the “Idol” fans who picked his songs last week. He apologized, but would America forgive him on “Love: Break-Ups and Make-Ups” night?

And, more importantly would those footsteps from teen queen Jena Irene get louder?

Caleb Stays In The Pocket
Rocking a white denim jacket, Johnson took no chances in his show opener, growling through a serviceable take on Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Keith Urban called it “killer, man” and a “Caleb Slayer,” which is good, right?

Dedicating it to his band back home, Johnson then motored full-throttle through Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Travelin’ Band” like he was born to sing the swamp boogie classic. Jennifer Lopez was right, there’s really nothing left to say about it. “You killed it again, you’re gonna be tough to beat,” she shrugged.

His make-up song was Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” and the soft-focus piano-ballad power vocals completed his flawless trifecta.

Jessica Gets Gone, And Might Be Gone
Jessica Meuse is still looking for that performance that will show that she’s got a spark behind those thousand-yard-stare eyes. Her wobbly, rocked-up take on original “Idol” Kelly ...

‘Arrow’: All The Biggest Moments On ‘Streets Of Fire’

by 05/07/14

It’s the penultimate episode of the totally insane second season of “Arrow,” and it plays more like the first hour of an epic blockbuster movie than just another TV show. Over-the-top action, huge character moments and some incredible cliffhangers just make us more eager for next Wednesday to get here, and soon.

Here are all the biggest moments from “Streets of Fire”:

Deathstroke’s Guitar Army, Minus The Guitars
It’s been promised for weeks, but finally Slade’s army of mini-Deathstrokes attacks Starling City, setting CGI fires wherever they go. And given they’re virtually unkillable strong-men following Slade’s every order — and Slade’s orders are to destroy Starling — that’s bad, bad news.

Streets of Fire

Laurel Gets Her Gun
After a rocky season, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) has finally come into her own as a confident woman who OH MY GOD did she pick up a bow??? Comic fans know that Laurel may eventually become the hero known as Black Canary, but given her explosive arrowin’ in this episode, maybe she’s fated to become something else?

Particularly given what we’ll get to in a bit with the current Black Canary, her sister Sara (Caity Lotz); but whatever happens, now that Laurel knows everyone’s secrets, let’s get her more in the action, please.

Cry Me A Canary
Sara returns to Starling City, thinking she’s an irredeemable killer. But it turns out all she needs is to selflessly save a convenient child from a fire, and then have a cop call her a hero to accept: she’s ...

WTF Did Shia LaBeouf Just Tweet?

by 05/07/14

Aaand, he’s back.

Shia LaBeouf has returned to Twitter after months of silence. Following his three-week long “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” stream, LaBeouf apologized for the last time and crawled into a social-media-hibernation. The recluse only appeared once more to post a quippy “Out of Office” memo and leave his followers an email address contact.

However, Wednesday (May 7), the recluse actor reclaimed his social spotlight with a cryptic message:

Let’s break this down and see what Shia is getting at:

A Noun And Two Verbs
With these three definitions, maybe he’s telling us that he’s going to start using his Twitter account as a new-aged dictionary? Word of the day, anyone?

‘To Post Vitriolic Electronic Messages’
In Internet terms, the word “flame” is used to describe the action of sending an abusive message via email. Since Shia’s last post included an contact address, perhaps he’s become a victim to flaming over the last few weeks?

‘To Burst Forth With Strong Emotion’
Maybe he’s just trying to tell us how he feels. The third definition describes intense, often angry, emotions. The actor could certainly be experiencing some flaming feelings.

ALL CAPS
Shia capitalized three words in his message: FLAME, ELECTRONIC, and EMOTION. This could determine the most valuable pieces of his code. At first bat, he’s feeling angry over some emails. Or, maybe Shia is preparing to spewing them forth himself. Or maybe it’ll be the title of his debut album or something.

Pants On Fire
In the accompanying photo, a pair of pants burn on grill. Liar, liar, ...

Kim Kardashian Rants On Racism: ‘I’m Going To Stop Pretending Like This Isn’t My Problem’

by 05/07/14

By Maurice Bobb

On the same day that Kim Kardashian took to Twitter to refute all of the rumors that she and Kanye West were already married, the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star addressed her stance on a more serious topic: racism.

Just days after the NBA was forced to ban one of its owners, Donald Sterling, due to racist remarks, the new mother decided to take a stand on the issue of racial discrimination. But a topic so multi-layered and deeply-rooted in our nation’s history took more than 140 characters to express.

“I never knew how much being a mom would change me,” she tweeted via a link to her website with the phrase, “On my mind.”

“It’s amazing how one little person and the love I have for her has brought new meaning to every moment. What once seemed so important, now feels insignificant. It’s like I get to see the world for the first time again, but through someone else’s eyes. It’s a beautiful thing to feel and experience so much more, but with that beauty comes a flip side – seeing through my daughter’s eyes the side of life that isn’t always so pretty. To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought. It is obviously a topic that Kanye is passionate about, but I guess it was easier for me to believe that it was someone else’s battle. But recently, I’ve read and personally experienced ...
