Rico Love Defends His New Single: It’s ‘Anti-Bitch, Pro-Women’

If you judge Rico Love's new single simply by the title, then you may be missing the message that the singer/songwriter and rapper is sending. But then again, Rico had to expect some folks to oppose a song he calls "Bitches Be Like," right?

"I had an issue because there were a few female blog sites where I wanted to premiere the record on because I feel like the song is anti-bitch, pro-women. They didn't want to put it, they didn't want to post it," Love told MTV News Thursday, on the eve of the track's music video premiere online

The song, which appears on a newly re-released version of Rico's Discrete Luxury EP, tells the story of a woman who chases material wealth and superficial trappings while neglecting some of life's more wholesome offerings.

"Bitches be like, 'Hair done, nails done, but I ain't got nowhere to stay,' " Rico sings on the hook, purposely generalizing his subject to prove his point.

Love made his mark in music as a songwriter, penning tracks for Usher and Beyoncé, so you can be sure that every word is deliberate. On one of the song's rap verses, he questions the motives of women who sleep around and those who post promiscuous photos on Instagram for attention.

Now there hasn't exactly been an overflow of outrage, but some will surely argue that this type of song, when coming from a man, doesn't do much to help empower women. Rico welcomes the discussion.

"I don't mind getting a conversation going and starting a dialogue, because I know what ...

Nicolas Cage Dishes On His Tortured Character In ‘Joe’: Watch

Outside of lending his voice to "The Croods," Nicolas Cage has preferred to appear in small indie movies as of late, a trend that continues with the new highly acclaimed film in which Cage plays the tortured title character.

"He's a man who has gone through some serious mistakes," Cage told MTV News. "He's been a convict. He is trying to stay restrained and not make the same mistakes. So he stays at home, he drinks, he goes to work."

That all changes when Joe meets a 15-year-old named Gary (Tye Sheridan), whose own life is falling apart. "His home life is a disaster, and I try to help him out of it," he says.

But Joe isn't exactly a great role model. As an ex-con, he strives for redemption but is easily pushed over the edge.

"He has his own law, his own code of ethics," explained Cage. "If you do something that's not right in his law, then he could do something that he will probably regret."

"Joe" is also a departure of sorts for director David Gordon Green, who started out making acclaimed indie films but has become more known for directing Seth Rogen, James Franco and Danny McBride in the madcap "Pineapple Express" and co-creating and directing episodes of "Eastbound & Down."

Though "Joe" is a drama, Cage told us that Green's set is "full of life, full of play," as one would expect from the director.

"David wants his actors to improvise," said Cage. "Let's do the scene the way it's written, and then let's do it without any ...

Michael Stipe Recalls Meeting Kurt Cobain — And His Blue Eyes

A litany of musicians were honored at Thursday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony — KISS, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens — but the name of everyone's lips as the night drew to a close was undoubtedly Nirvana.

The seminal grunge band found its place among the legends last night, a fitting tribute that fell close on the heels of the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death.

"Nevermind came out when I was nine and it changed my life and I wouldn't be playing music if it wasn't for Nirvana," St. Vincent — a.k.a. Annie Clark — said backstage before she joined Lorde, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and the remaining members of Nirvana in a medley of classics.

"It's a real honor and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little bit melancholy, too — with the gravity of it," she added, reflecting on how surreal it was to practice with the band before the show. "Hearing Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear f—ing playing," she said. "That was rad."

Michael Stipe inducted Nirvana into the Hall of Fame, a fitting choice, as he served as kind of a mentor to Cobain as R.E.M.'s former frontman, the glory of which you can relive on Record Story Day when Unplugged: The Complete 1991 and 2001 Sessions drops and right now on the band's MTV Artist page.

On stage, Stipe said, simply, "That voice, that voice. Kurt, we miss you. I miss you," after earlier in the evening recalling how he first met Cobain.

"He ...

Philip Seymour Hoffman In ‘A Most Wanted Man’ Trailer: Watch Now

Right up until his death, Philip Seymour Hoffman was delivering the kind of intense performances he was always known for. We're now seeing some of the fruits of that work.

In addition to the final "Hunger Games" movies, Hoffman worked on "A Most Wanted Man" in the year before died. The spy thriller from director Anton Corbijn, based on the book by the master of the genre John le Carré, just released its first trailer, and the it's already apparent that Hoffman delivered a performance up to his high standard.

"A Most Wanted Man" takes place in the murky world of modern espionage and anti-terrorism. Hoffman plays Günther Bachmann, a German intelligence officer on the trail of an illegal alien, who could potentially lead him to a Muslim man suspected of having terrorism connections. To get to the young man, Bachmann enlists a lawyer named Annabel Richter (Rachel McAdams) with the hopes of turning her into a spy.

As you can see in the first trailer, "A Most Wanted Man" takes place far from the world of James Bond. This is a le Carré story, and that means suspense instead of explosions and bureaucratic monotony instead of vodka martinis.

On top of another great performance from Hoffman, "A Most Wanted Man" is noteworthy because of its director. Corbijn is a famed photographer, who only recently moved over to directing films. This will be his third feature after the Joy Division movie, "Control," and the underrated George Clooney slow-burn thriller, "The American."

"A Most Wanted Man" opens in theaters on July 25.

Will ‘Rio 2’ Fly Past ‘Captain America’ At The Box Office?

Captain America survived his battle against the Winter Soldier. But will a flock of tropical birds take Cap down at the box office this MTV Movie Awards weekend?

is looking to do what Georges Batroc, Brock Rumlow and a giant conspiracy could not, arriving in theaters against last weekend's box-office champ. Industry experts predict a photo finish for the two sequels, each of which is expected to earn around $40 million.

Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx and Tracy Morgan lead the voice cast for the $103 million 3-D sequel. "Rio" opened with $39 million back in 2011 and eventually went on to earn over $484.6 million worldwide. Recent family-friendly movies "Muppets Most Wanted" and "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" enjoyed positive reviews, but critics have not been kind to "Rio 2." The first film sits at 72 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while the follow-up is "rotten" at 47 percent.

Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, Kristen Chenoweth and Andy Garcia join the cast from the original in "Rio 2," but the impressive cast of "The Winter Soldier" will still give the jungle cartoon a run for its money. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, et al set a new record for April with the "Captain America" sequel's $95 million debut. The ninth blockbuster in Marvel's Cinematic Universe has made $133 million in North America already, with another $207.1 million from foreign markets. "Rio 2" has collected $55.5 million overseas, where it got an early start.

Game’s Bad Week Gets Worse: From 40 Glocc Beef To Ex-Fiancee Drama

Game is having a rough week.

After his ex-fiancée, Tiffney Cambridge, claimed the Compton MC attacked her and broke her nose during a domestic dispute in March, he's facing a court date later this month. Until then, a judge has ordered Game to stay at least 100 yards away from Cambridge, according to TMZ.

Adding to his troubles at home, Game's rival 40 Glocc took to Instagram after the news broke and alleged that Cambridge cheated on the rapper with "Basketball Wives" reality star Tami Roman. Glocc continued his Instagram attack this week, posting pics of Cambridge and Game's kids, captioning each photo with sexual boasts and insults too heinous to publish here.

Glocc and Game have had a longstanding rap feud that even sparked a fight that was captured on video and spread all across the Internet in 2012. But now Glocc, who was once signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, has denied posting the photos on Instagram, saying his account was hacked.

"MY INSTAGRAM IS HACKED!.. ON MY MOMMA," he wrote in all caps.

News of Game's domestic troubles first broke on April 4, but sources close to the star of VH1's "Marrying the Game" told TMZ that rapper adamantly denied laying a finger on Cambridge.

On Thursday, Game posted a long message about not being able to see his kids. And while he quickly deleted it from Instagram, the post remains on Twitter. "Doing the best I can not to break," the message read in part.

MTV News was on hand to ...
