Johnny Depp Finally Explains That Sparkly ‘Chick’s Ring’ He’s Been Wearing

Johnny Depp never makes it easy. During an appearance on "The Today Show" on Friday (April 4) promoted as the big reveal of his engagement, when asked if the sparkly diamond bauble on his left hand was an engagement ring, he told host Savannah Guthrie, "That's a chick's ring."

"Does that mean you're engaged?" she asked.

"That means I'm wearing a chick's ring," Depp responded, demurring again. "Well, wearing a chick's engagement ring on my finger, being a fella, as far as you know, because I might be a woman, who knows? ... What would you consider?"

Guthrie definitely thought the ring made him look engaged. And, again, being JD, he didn't say the words, but snapped his fingers and winked in response, accepting the host's congratulations.

"She's a wonderful girl," Depp, 50, said of actress/model Amber Heard, 27, to whom he reportedly got engaged in late 2013
. "She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me."

When Guthrie further pressed on reports that Heard might be pregnant, Depp quipped, "Expecting what? A child? Good God, what do you think I am, a savage?" He said son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose — with former partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis — shouldn't expect a new sibling anytime soon. "No, no it's not a shotgun affair," he said to Guthrie, who recently announced that she is pregnant and had secretly gotten married.

Austin Mahone’s Secret Is Out: Here’s His Album Release And Tour Dates

It may be Austin Mahone's 18th birthday, but he decided to give his Mahomies the ultimate gift: an album release date and an upcoming tour.

On Friday (April 4), Mahone not only announced that he will release his debut album, The Secret, on May 27, but he will hit the road on his "first big headline tour" kicking off July 25, with special guests Fifth Harmony.

"This is for my Mahomies. Thank you for supporting me and sticking with me all this time," the singer said in a press release. "I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than to be able to announce new music and a huge tour for all you guys!"

Mahomies have been anxiously anticipating the pop star's debut, which he promises will be well worth the wait.

"My new album, I'm still putting it together, you know the reason why it's taking so long is because I just want to make [sure], you know, every song on there is perfect," the singer told MTV News in December of 2013. "I want my first album to just be crazy, like, 'Aw man this kid is like, this came out of nowhere, he's got an insane album,' so, I mean, I've worked with so many talented producers and so I just want to pick the right songs for it."

Mahone hooked up with producers Max Martin, Red One and Sean Garrett for his album, which will feature his single "MMM Yeah," and quite possibly that collaboration with Justin Bieber.

Just two months after the release, ...

The Orwells Frontman Won’t Be Taking His Pants Off On Stage Anymore

"I'm not that old, but I'm getting pretty wise" — the lyric leaps out, somehow incongruous in The Orwells' new single "Southern Comfort," a rock 'n' roll thrummer replete with girls, booze and other thoroughly fun/debauched pastimes.

According to lead singer Mario Cuomo, however, it encapsulates his experience being part of an up-and-coming band — one that's composed of a bunch of kids barely out of high school.

"I'm a pretty young-ass dude, so just being on the road and dealing with people and going to f—ing different countries and states and meeting these all people, you just learn a lot about people and street smarts," Cuomo told MTV News. "I probably learned more on our first tour than I ever did in high school, I feel. More things that I think are going to help me. Now I know how to deal with a lot of situations. I f—ed up a lot. That's the only way for me to learn, I think."

If you've ever seen the Orwells live, you'll know that Cuomo will try anything once on stage — convulsing into the crowd, sitting in the sacred "guest chair" during the band's epic Letterman performance and, for a while there, taking off his pants. Sure, he covered everything with a towel -- gym class change style — but he still was apt to stand in front of a teeming crowd, everything hanging out in the breeze. The kids loved it, too, plucking off their own clothes and careening into the pit.

That's something the frontman won't be doing anymore, however.

"It's not ...

Ed Sheeran Ready To ‘Sing’ On New Single

Ed Sheeran is going literal with the title of the first single from his upcoming album. "Sing." Yup, that's the title of the tune that he will debut at 7:30 p.m. (BST) on Monday (2:30 p.m. ET) on British DJ Zane Lowe's BBC Radio show.

While we haven't heard the song yet, former British boy band singer and TV presenter Marvin Humes said he has and, well, it's "VERY good."

Sheeran, who recently granted a dying fan's wish
by singing "Little Bird" to her as she breathed her last, said "Sing" will go on sale on Monday night everywhere except the UK, Ireland, Germany and Australia.

Sheerios take heart, though, as Ed promised that those territories will have an EP within the month. "Just the way that the countries radio's work," he explained. "But you'll get a full EP of cool s--- further down the line."

Sheers were, obviously, super-stoked to finally get any news about the upcoming album.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’: The Reviews Are In

Suit up, moviegoers: has arrived.

"Winter Soldier" is the second "Captain America" solo film, Chris Evans' fourth time in the suit (if you count his "Thor: The Dark World" cameo) and the latest entry of Marvel Studios' slate of Phase Two films. The story follows Steve Rogers in the modern day, working as a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative and raging against the machine after he learns some startling secrets. Reviews for the new "Captain America" movie are glowing, with some critics citing it as the best Marvel movie yet.

Read on for a round-up of what reviewers are saying about "Winter Soldier":

The Story and the Stakes
"The set-up is straightforward enough: Cap and Black Widow are working for/with Nick Fury when S.H.I.E.L.D. comes under attack. Unsure of whom, if anyone, to trust, they must uncover a hidden threat before it destroys them all. The film not only serves as a strong follow-up to Cap's first outing, 'Captain America: The First Avenger,' and Joss Whedon's ensemble juggernaut 'The Avengers,' it also has the strongest ties to and most profound impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe at large. The repercussions of the events of this film will reverberate throughout all of Marvel's properties." — Roth Cornet, IGN Movies

The Heroes
"Evans has settled comfortably into the title role, and bolsters its appeal with a precise charm, never letting you forget that the heart of a regular and sincere wimp beats beneath that rock-sculpted chest. He spends much of the film working up a will-they-could-they? partnership with Johansson's still-sparky Black Widow, who enjoys her greatest ...

Watch David Letterman Make It Official: He’s Retiring Next Year

Perhaps you expected him to make his big announcement by writing it on a turkey and tossing it off the roof? Or spelling it out in Alka-Seltzer and dipping himself into a huge pool of water?

Nope. When it came time to confirm reoprts that he was retiring
after a highly influential three-decade run in late night television, David Letterman shocked his studio audience by being uncharacteristically sentimental.

He kicked off Thursday's monologue with some spring baseball, court stenographer, allergy and Chris Christie jokes like it was just another night in the trenches. But when he sat down after the first commercial break, the man who changed the face of late night television forever dropped his bombshell.

Letterman, the longest-running host in U.S. late night TV history, prefaced the news by noting that he will soon turn 67 years-old, figuring that he's spent half his life making us laugh from behind his desk. "More importantly, that means I've spent half my life in makeup," he joked of his 4,014 shows at CBS and another 1,810 at NBC.

The news came as part of a cute story about a recent fishing trip with his 10-year-old son, Harry, in which Harry took a striking picture of a rare immature bald eagle, which Letterman spent a whole day trying to identify. "If you spend most of you day trying to ID birds, should you really be running a network television program?" he asked. What was his point? Life is short.

Top 10 Reactions To David Letterman's Retirement Announcement

Go Inside Lady Gaga’s New York City Apartment With MTV

Judging from her decadent couture, intricate stage shows and the fact that she once rolled around on this, Lady Gaga's gotta have one hell of a home, right?

We'd say so.

As part of her MTV Takeover on Friday (April 4) —which takes place all day on MTV, MTV Hits and Logo TV — the Mother Monster invited MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway into her New York City apartment for an afternoon tea before her Thursday-night gig at Roseland Ballroom.

And as you'd expect from a place previously inhabited by Liza Minnellli and Tony Bennett, it's a pretty nice place.

But the best part wasn't the swanky chandelier or plush sofa, but rather the rooftop view overlooking Central Park.

"The most important thing to me about this place is I can come out here and stand outside. That's the best thing. I miss going outside," she told Sway, saying she often has to go outside in disguise. "Such is life, I'm blessed in many ways."

Well we can't argue with that. Gaga also showed off one of the many gifts she gets from her Little Monsters -- a gold-plated rose from her "sweet" fan Sam, who often waits outside her hotel to give her gifts.

That's not all she'll be showing us. All day on Friday, Gaga will regularly break into programming on MTV, MTV Hits and Logo TV to take fans behind her Roseland Ballroom residency, showing behind the scenes footage of show rehearsals. Additionally, fans will be able to check out the exclusive content via her MTV Artist page, as ...
