Anna Kendrick Couldn’t Penetrate Johnny Depp’s ‘Famous Force Field’ During ‘Into The Woods’

You might expect movie stars to be used to the encountering other famous actors and actresses, but that's not always the case. It certainly wasn't the case with Anna Kendrick on the set of "Into the Woods," Disney's upcoming adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical.

When MTV News spoke with Kendrick at the Sundance Film Festival, where she was promoting her new movie "Happy Christmas," she described encounters with two uber-famous actors, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

While she didn't get to see Depp sing, Kendrick did meet him — and his "famous force field" — in the recording studio.

"I didn't see Johnny sing. I met him in the recording studio and ran away from him because he's that kind of famous that you're like, 'Oh my God. I'm repelled,' " she said. "It's like 'You have a famous force field.' He's obviously incredibly sweet, but I was like, 'I should not be in this room.' "

Kendrick did manage to catch queen of the Academy Awards Meryl Streep belting on the set, which was apparently worth a large sum of cash.

"I got to be on set for watching Meryl sing 'Last Midnight,' which is her kind of swan song, I guess. It was so intense," Kendrick said. "James Corden, who is in that scene with me pointed out that you could auction off watching Meryl Streep sing 'Last Midnight' and raise so much money. We just got to be there. We're just the goons who got to be in the room, which was incredible."

The experience on the set of a ...

The 6 Most Tarantino Moments From Leaked ‘Hateful Eight’ Script

"The Hateful Eight" was supposed to have been Quentin Tarantino's second entry into the Western genre, but upon learning of the script's leak, Tarantino, like many of our favorite cowboys, was quick to pull the trigger and kill the project.

There is some good news for the Tarantino faithful, as several sites obtained a copy of the script and made it available to read. The script clocks in at a brisk (for Tarantino at least) 146 pages, like many Tarantino films, it's an ensemble piece, this time set in post-Civil War America. It takes place mostly in one setting, Minnie's Haberdashery, where strangers (the "hateful eight" of the title) have to spend the night during a harsh blizzard.

The script's very serious tone represents a departure for Tarantino from his most recent movies. Still, the writer-director's trademarks are more than evident. We've narrowed down the six most Tarantinoan aspects of his ill-fated movie.

Quentin Doesn't Watch His Mouth
Tarantino loves his curse words, and they show up with full force in the script. Like "Django," the most-used one is the N-word, which shows up probably a bit less than in Tarantino's last film, but is there enough to make Spike Lee very upset.

The Characters Are Bounty-ful
"Eight" picks up on a few of the plot points from "Django." It's set in a racially charged 19th century America, though "Eight" takes place post-Civil War. Most notably, its main characters are bounty hunters. Specifically, we focus on Major Marquis Warren (most likely Samuel L. Jackson), a black Union officer-cum-bounty hunter who is ...

8 Newspapers That Made Justin Bieber Front Page News

The Web basically exploded Thursday when Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach on suspicion of drag racing and DUI charges?; Biebs' arrest even generated more tweets than Beyoncé garnered for her surprise album at the end of last year. That's a lot of bereft Beliebers.

Print media, however, had to wait a tick before getting in on the conversation. Still, when Friday's (January 24) issues hit the stands all around the world, they were similarly JB-replete.

As family, friends and fans continue to war against non-Beliebers — and Bieber himself shares cryptic Instagram snaps comparing himself to the King of Pop -- we took at look at what's making headlines around the world when it comes to the Journals singer.

A Subtle Suggestion

Well, at least they got him a present.

A Gawk At The Grin

Bieber's smiley mugshot face had some outlets fuming.

A Barrage Of B's

Nothing nails a headline home like some awesomely abundant alliteration.

A Spin On A Popular TV Show

Is Bieber more of a Taystee or a Crazy Eyes?

A Dig About Drinking

We're guessing that typo was intentional.

A Lyrical Link

Well, Bieber is sporting some serious Elvis hair in his mugshot...

A Big Blank

Just a head without a headline.

A Punny Joke

And we're done here.

Will Big Boi Solo Album Come Before OutKast Reunion LP?

Fans will finally get to see the OutKast reunion they longed for when the ATLiens hit the festival circuit this year, but die-hards waiting for that reunion album may have to wait a little longer.

There has been no official confirmation concerning a new Big Boi and Andre 3000 LP, but Sir Lucious Left Foot has confirmed that he will be dropping his third solo LP sometime in the near future. "We have a couple of new jams we recorded in the studio recently," Big told Revolt TV, referencing Killer Mike. "So watch out for that new Big Boi solo record coming too."

Mr. DJ, the group's disc jock, did confirm that the two were recording a lot of individual material, but stopped short of giving any confirmation of a group album. "I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle. We may make it back in for an album following that," he said.

One of OutKast's tour stops will be in Gulf Shores, Alabama, at the 2014 Hangout Music Festival from May 16 to May 18.

Queen Latifah, who used to manage OutKast and still has close ties to the group, got the rumor mill turning when she told Howard Stern earlier this month that the Two Dope Boyz (in a Cadillac) were

Days later she backtracked on her quote. "The rumor mill says I predicted an @Outkast album...except I didn't," she wrote on Twitter on January 16. "Sorry to get twitter a ...

‘Fantastic Four’: Michael B. Jordan Is On Board, But As Who?

After months of speculation, we finally have some definitive information on FOX's "Fantastic Four" reboot. As first noticed by a site called Acting Auditions, actor Michael B. Jordan is officially on board the project, reteaming with director Josh Trank ("

First, a little bit of background: Fantastic Four is one of the two properties, along with X-Men, that are licensed by FOX, rather than sitting neatly in the Disney stable. Though the studio has already made one unsuccessful go at the franchise, the movies need to stay in production or the rights revert back to Marvel Studios. Hence a reboot of the property, which has been in development for several years. Jordan has long been rumored to be taking on the part of Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch in the movie, but nothing else has been confirmed... Until now.

The first clue came from Louisiana's government entertainment set, which lists productions happening throughout the state. Information for sites like these are usually submitted by production managers seeking permission to shoot in the area, so any info won't just be gleaned from the often unreliable superhero rumors sites. According to them:

"Fox feature film 'Fantastic Four' starring Michael B. Jordan will begin shooting March 24th in Baton Rouge."

Notice that they don't specify what part Jordan will be playing, but that's certainly a smoking gun if we've ever seen one.

The second clue/info on the plot comes from Production Weekly, an industry magazine that lists productions, shooting locations and casting info. According to the Thursday, ...

2014 Grammys: Why Kendrick Lamar Will Win Album Of The Year

The 56th Grammy Awards are this Sunday, which means we all get another chance to be annoyed by Taylor Swift's enthusiasm (or its 2014 counterpoint, Lorde's apathy), nitpick every outfit and complain about each performance. Hey, that's why we watch, isn't it?

Of course, this year, there's actually another reason to tune in: We'll probably witness history. For the first time ever, a hip-hop track — however you choose to define the term — will more than likely win Song of the Year. I'm talking about Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' equality anthem though given its popularity and message (not to mention this year's scattershot Song category,) that's not exactly a bold prediction.

But this is: Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city is going to win Album of the Year.

And that's historic. Not because it's been a decade since a hip-hop album — OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below — won the night's biggest prize, or that, by winning, the 26-year-old Lamar will have accomplished something that Kanye West, Eminem and Lil Wayne haven't (to say nothing of Jay Z, who's never even been nominated for Album of the Year). No, a win for good kid is significant because it represents the Grammy's redemption.

It's not exactly a stretch to say that the award has had a rather complicated history with hip-hop, beginning with the fact that they didn't recognize it until 1989, when the Best Rap Performance category was unveiled ... though not televised. That lead to boycotts by artists — Jay famously refused ...
