‘Pacific Rim’ May Get Submerged By ‘Despicable Me 2’ At The Box Office

"Pacific Rim" jazzed up the so-called "fanboy" crowd before it was even filmed. But as it rolls into theaters, will that enthusiasm propel the monsters vs. robots tale to "Man of Steel"-sized grosses, or is it the next "Scott Pilgrim"?

For box-office watchers, it's an exciting weekend, with no clear projected victor as of Friday (July 12) morning.

Early footage from filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" had one of the loudest reactions ever at least year's San Diego Comic-Con, where Del Toro unleashed some big action sequences on the Hall H crowd. Now, as this year's Comic-Com looms and critics have seen the finished film, genre-loving sites like Badass Digest and Hitfix have heaped praise upon it, while some more mainstream outlets like the Wall Street Journal and TheWrap.com were not as kind.

Nevertheless, by the time it opened, whereas "Pacific Rim" is opening with a 73 percent "fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes. and with comic-book lovers online, but that early buzz did not translate into big box-office grosses for Universal. Del Toro has already spoken about a potential sequel with MTV News, Kanye West liked the movie and "Sons of Anarchy" showrunner Kurt Sutter tweeted out his (admittedly biased) approval of "Pacific Rim" star Charlie Hunnam (aka "Jax Teller).

"Despicable Me 2" broke records last weekend and there's also ensemble comedy "Grown Ups 2," which reunites Adam Sandler and his regular stable of comedian pals, to contend with. Both of them will offer stiff competition to "Pacific Rim," with the #1 spot ...

Sean Garrett Talks ‘Forming A New Movement’ With Meek Mill

Sean Garrett has a whole lot to be proud of. The Atlanta singer, songwriter and producer has impressively penned big-time hits for Usher ("Yeah!"), Fergie ("London Bridge") and Beyoncé ("Upgrade U"). But his latest collaboration with Meek Mill is what has him most excited now.

"We're making the new Dreamchasers/ Bet I Penned It collaboration," Garrett told MTV News. "Me and Meek Mill are just forming a new company and forming a new movement. We're coming together and doing a new label deal together."

Ever since he released his debut album, Dreams and Nightmares, last year, Meek has been establishing his Dreamchasers label, signing new artists like Lee Mazin, Louie V Gutta and R&B singer Jordanne. He also signed 18-year-old rapper Lil Snupe, who was shot and killed last month.

"Me and Meek are just two people who really connected on a personal level, having the same mentality and coming from nothing," Garrett said. "We watched [Jay-Z] and watched people like Diddy create these dynasties with music and branding and breaking artists and building mega corporations."

Now the pair have linked up for one common goal and have already started to work on building the new artists in their collective stable. With Meek's raw street appeal and Garrett's hitmaking ability, the pairing makes for a most interesting combination.

"We're really, really excited about the new Dreamchasers/ Bet I Penned It situation. It's going to be huge," Garrett said.

Demi Lovato’s Formula For Her ‘Pretty Epic’ Supergroup Revealed!

Demi Lovato doesn't really need any help from her friends when it comes to her bustling music career, but she knows exactly who she'd call on if she did want to put together a girl-power supergroup.

"It would never happen, but I'd form a group featuring me, Miley [Cyrus], Selena [Gomez] and Taylor [Swift]," she told The Guardian. "That would be pretty epic."

That idea sounds rather intriguing to us here at MTV News, even if it may fall into the realm of the impossible. However, we'd pay a pretty penny to see that fierce foursome team up and take on the world together. So, we decided to indulge in the fantasy and imagine just what it might be like if they did all get together.

Shut Down Twitter
All four ladies have very varied Twitter philosophies, so should they combine their respective feeds into one account, the entire Internet just might melt in the best possible way. Between Swift's love of tweets about cats, Miley's frank confessions, Selena's candid behind-the-scenes moments and Demi's inspiring messages, we would be constantly refreshing the feed to read what's next.

Girls Run The World (Tour)
We'd imagine that every bit of ink shed about this prospective jaunt would include the word "spectacle." The over-the-top costumes, catchy tunes and bang-for-your-buck staging would amount to a non-stop feast for the eyes. And, we just hope someone is taking Vines and Instagrams of every one of their backstage hangout sessions, which we assume would be like attending the best sleepover of ...

Justin Timberlake Premieres New Single, ‘Take Back The Night’

Justin Timberlake just got pulses pounding (and censors howling) with his , but he's already on to the next one: launching a brand-new single called "Take Back The Night" and a pre-order for the second installment of The 20/20 Experience.

Earlier in the week, JT teased that "Take Back" would be coming soon, and he proved to be a man of his word ... because on Friday, he unveiled the full track, a sumptuous slice of Off The Wall-indebted disco that seems custom-made for roller rinks everywhere (or at least the five that are still open for business in 2013).

Over stirring strings and percolating percussion, JT attempts to woo a would-be lover — "Girl, this was your city/You did it all and more/Broke every law except for one, babe: attraction," he coos. "Are you ready?" He gets a little more direct in the chorus, begging the object of his affections to join him on the dance floor ("Your love's a weapon/Give your body some direction/that's my aim/And we can take back the night.") And, like the majority of songs on the first 20/20 Experience, this one's a long-player too, stretching to nearly six minutes, and featuring plenty of staccato-ed guitars and blasts of horns on the extended outro, each of which is announced by Timberlake himself: "And the horns say!"

"Take Back The Night" is currently playing on Timberlake's official site (workplace productivity always dips on Friday anyway), and while you're there, you can also pre-order The 20/20 Experience, Part 2 of 2. Any ...

Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP: What We Know So Far

From her pimped-out golden wheelchairs
to her new high-fashion white paintball mask, Lady Gaga's creative process is one of the mysteries of the musical universe.

But with the announcement on Thursday that she is almost ready to pull back the curtain on her long-anticipated third full-length studio album, ARTPOP, Mother Monster finally gave fans a date to look forward to.

It's been almost a year since Gaga began teasing the album, so MTV News felt it was high time to take a look at what we know so far:

Save The Date
In a statement that raised more questions than it answered, Gaga revealed that the album is out on November 11 and that an as-yet-unnamed single will drop on August 19. She also promised an app (due on the same day the album will be available for pre-order, September 1) that is, "A musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive worldwide community — 'the auras.' Altering the human experience with social media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition."

There will also be an "artRAVE" on November 10 that will unveil a number of new Haus of Gaga design projects and collaborations with famous artists.

Serious Studio Time
A confidant told US Weekly that Gaga has been grinding away day-and-night recently in the studio to finish ARTPOP, which sounds about right for the obsessive singer. In January, one of her collaborators, EDM producer Zedd, said MTV News
that after working on a number of tracks together he got ...

A$AP Rocky, Big Sean Top Zendaya’s List Of Dream Collaborators

LOS ANGELES — With Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and Aaliyah at the top of her list of musical influences, it's no surprise 16-year-old Zendaya Coleman strives for perfection. And as the Disney star gears up to release her debut album this fall, she's been working overtime to ensure that everything meets her high standards.

"I'm very hands on. I want to make sure things are perfect," the "Shake It Up" star told MTV News while in the studio recording her new single "Fireflies." "My vision has to be complete, and you know, I don't mind doing things over and over and over again until it's perfect."

And since she's recording her new music with Hollywood Records — whose current roster includes Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Lucy Hale — one might think the is feeling pressure from all sides. Instead, Zendaya says there's only one person in particular that she aims to please: herself.

"I have to be able to play my songs over and over and over again," she explained. "I have to love them because if I don't love them, how can I expect anyone else to want to play it a 1,000 times and love it?"

Although Zendaya deems herself her harshest critic, there are a couple of others she hopes to impress with her upcoming record.

"I really want rap artists on it, like, I think that's something that I would be so stoked about. Having A$AP [Rocky] on it or Big Sean, that would be crazy," she replied when asked if she'll be collaborating with anyone ...

‘Arrested Development’ Fifth Season? Netflix Wants More

Despite the decidedly mixed reactions to the long-awaited fourth season, Netflix reportedly wants some more

Producer Brian Grazer revealed to Bloomberg News that the streaming service is now in active talks with the studio behind the Bluth family, 20th Century Fox, to produce another set of episodes. "We are in conversations with them to do another," Grazer said. "They are interested in doing that."

But don't go and blue yourself just yet. The Hollywood Reporter, following up on the update from Grazer, confirmed that no deal has been signed for more "Arrested Development" yet, and there are likely to be some big hurdles in the way of another season.

A big reason that it took seven years to reunite Michael, Gob, Buster and the rest of the Bluths was the busy schedule of the entire cast. Even when creator Mitch Hurwitz and the cast all agreed to do another season on Netflix, the production had to resort to using green screen in some scenes where the actors couldn't line up their schedules to be in the room at the same time.

Busy schedules have been dealt with before, and Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos thinks that those obstacles could be overcome again. He told THR in May, when the fourth season premiered, that if the actors want to do more, it will probably happen. "We would love to do more, and we have a deal in place that says that there could be," he said. "They're very in-demand movie and TV stars, and they're all ...
