Demi Lovato Says She Was ‘Suicidal’ Even Before ‘Barney’

Demi Lovato has never been shy about her personal struggles. She documented her road to recovery from a number of physical and emotional issues, including cutting and eating disorders, during last year's MTV special And according to a new interview, they're issues that trace back all the way to her days on "Barney & Friends."

"At the time, I was just so grateful to be on TV, but I was also really struggling," she says in the August issue of Cosmopolitan. "Looking back, there was a connection — probably between any kid who's ever sang that song to Barney — a little place in a child's heart, a void, that could be filled. And maybe Barney fills it. Even before Barney, I was suicidal. I was 7. With Barney, I guess subliminally, I did have a relationship with this figure that was saving my life in a way... I've talked about being bullied and the years of being a teenager, but I went through things when I was younger that I've never talked about that probably caused me to turn out the way I ended up turning out."

Since leaving an Illinois treatment facility in January 2011, Lovato since joined the "X Factor" and dropped two albums, including May's Demi.

Last week, Lovato announced the Lovato Treatment Scholarship, launched in conjunction with CAST Recovery. It will cover treatment expenses for those struggling with mental health or addiction issues, one individual at a time. She launched it to remember her father, Patrick Lovato, who died last ...

Jay-Z’s ‘Brilliant’ Magna Carta Deal Gets Love From 2 Chainz, Big Sean, More

Jay-Z is outlining a set of "new rules" with his 12th solo album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, and more specifically with the rollout plan for the LP, which he kicked off with a prime-time TV announcement.

Fans are always impressed by Hov's business moves, but his fellow MCs are, too, including Big Sean who told MTV News, "I think how Jay-Z announced his album is pretty bawsed up."

Jay made his official album reveal during game 5 of the 2013 NBA Finals with a three-minute commercial sponsored by Samsung that included super-producers Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Pharrell and Rick Rubin. He later announced that Samsung had already purchased 1 million copies of the album ahead of its release, which those participating users would receive for free.

But even for artists who've been in the game for decades, Jay-Z's power move is something to admire.

"That was one of the dopest moves ever," Warren G said of the Roc Nation boss' album promo plan. "That was huge. For Samsung to collaborate with Jay-Z on an album, that's incredible. Nobody's done it, so I think it's brilliant."

2 Chainz wasn't afraid to admit that he'd like to take a page out of Hov's book as well. "I'm a big fan of Jay-Z's and straight up he showed us how to do it, man, so I can't lie and say I'm not tryna following his footsteps," Chainz said.

For a relatively new rapper like Trinidad James, it's becoming clear that the sky's the limit. "Of course, at the level of life where [he is] right now, ...

‘Transformers’ Go To Battle In Set Videos: Watch Now!

Explosions rang out on a small rural road just outside the town of Adrian, Michigan, this weekend, which can only mean one thing: the Autobots and Decepticons were battling it out for cosmic supremacy.

New videos from the set of "Transformers 4" surfaced this weekend, and they've got our hearts racing just thinking about next summer.

Director Michael Bay took several of the movie's new vehicles out for a spin down the road in some Michigan farmland, including a revamped Optimus Prime. The leader of the good space robots can be seen speeding down the highway in the first video uploaded to YouTube over the weekend. Things seem to be going smoothly until a series of explosions go off on either side of Optimus.

It isn't until the second video that we see what may have caused the blasts. During another take with Optimus, a second semi-truck follows closely behind. The black 2014 Freightliner that drives behind Optimus is the same model that was announced on Friday, but we do not know yet what character that vehicle is standing for.

A writer at /Film theorized that the Freightliner could either be a friend — possibly Ultra Magnus — or a rival of Optimus Prime's like the evil Motormaster, a character who has previously appeared as a black semi.

A third video shows two more cars battling it out from a distance. A black vehicles in another sending it spinning off the road.

"Transformers 4" is set for release on June 27, 2014. Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, and Nicola Peltz will star in ...

BET Awards ‘Unchained’: Best Actor Jamie Foxx Shouts Out Rap ‘Djangos’

The "D" is silent, but the "B," "E" and "T" were all loud and proud for actor Jamie Foxx.

Foxx won the Best Actor award at the 2013 BET Awards for his turn as the heroic slave turned bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino's Foxx attended the show dressed in all white, wearing a T-shirt to remember shooting victim Trayvon Martin. Despite the somber attire, Foxx was all smiles as he danced up to the stage, accepting his award from Kevin Hart. With Hart right next to him, Foxx took the opportunity to make some public business negotiations.

"Kevin Hart, can we do a movie together? Can we do a comedy together? I'm doing all this to get with you, man," Foxx called out to the comedian, with fans cheering in the background.

"Turn it up baby," was Hart's enthusiastic reply — so if you see an announcement about a Foxx-Hart buddy comedy in the near future, you know where the idea started.

"First of all, I got the chance to meet some acting gods in my life," Foxx began his acceptance speech. "Sidney Poitier, who saw me after 'Ray' and said, 'I saw you one time, at a party ... I give you responsibility.' What he was saying is, we have to be responsible for our work."

"I want to give a shout-out to Quentin Tarantino for doing a cold-blooded movie that everyone was a little nervous about, I ain't gonna kid you," he continued. "But it ended up being alright. It was a superhero. We're living in a world of ...

‘Monsters University’ Holds Off ‘The Heat’ For Box-Office #1

As predicted topped the box office for a second consecutive weekend ahead of the $40 million debut of But what was not expected was the resilience of the undead from Brad Pitt's zombie epic did enough business to come out ahead of newcomer which performed below expectations.

Pixar's first ever prequel raked in another $46.2 million for a 10-day total of $171 million, which put it on course to outgross the $251 million "Monsters Inc." made in 2001. The second-week decline of "Monsters University" was much narrower than "Toy Story 3," "Brave" and the critically drubbed "Cars 2." Billy Crystal and John Goodman's "Revenge of the Nerds"-style college cartoon will face some heavy competition from Steve Carrell's "Despicable Me 2," which has already made more than $50 million in a handful of overseas markets. "Despicable Me 2" has enjoyed slightly better reviews than "Monsters" as well.

The audience for "The Heat" was 65 percent female, which shows what a smart decision it was for 20th Century Fox to release the movie in a summer of testosterone-heavy tales like "Man of Steel," "Fast & Furious 6," "Iron Man 3" and the like. The $40 million opening marked the biggest weekend for both Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. Buddy cop comedy "The Heat" was directed by Paul Feig, who made "Bridesmaids," the movie that turned McCarthy into a household name.

After a troubled production, multiple rewrites and several reshoots, "World War Z" looked to be doomed as its production budget soared past $190 million. But the ...

Mumford & Sons Close Glastonbury With Help From Vampire Weekend

Mumford & Sons were back and full strength on Sunday night during their headlining set at England's Glastonbury Festival. After canceling a series of gigs due to bassist Ted Dwane's recent hospitalization to remove a blood clot from his brain
, the folk rockers closed out the legendary festival with their first headlining slot at the gathering.

Singer Marcus Mumford assured the massive crowd, "We came for a party," as the group launched into their global hit "I Will Wait," according to the NME.

While they didn't comment much on Dwane's health scare for most of the set, at one point Mumford said, "So we've been a band for coming on six years, The Rolling Stones have been together for a lot longer than that," referring to Saturday night's highly anticipated Glastonbury debut by the legendary rock group. "The big difference between them and us is we've played Glastonbury four times." He then added, "Also, Ted's f---ing alive isn't he!"

Dwane, shorn of his signature long hair, wore a wide-brimmed hat to conceal his surgery scar and after performing "Roll Away Your Stone," Mumford requested that the crowd join him on "Awake My Soul" to, "celebrate the fact that Ted is still here."

The set ended with an all-star jam on the Joe Cocker arrangement of the Beatles' "With a Little Help From My Friends," with help from members of Vampire Weekend, the Vaccines and First Aid Kit.

The group canceled two gigs in Texas as well as headlining appearances at Bonnaroo and the Telluride festival to give Dwane time to ...

Avril Lavigne And Chad Kroeger Capping Cannes Party Weekend With French Wedding

This time, Avril Lavigne, 28, is throwing a serious blow out. The singer is about to cap a three-day wedding celebration
in the south of France with a lavish wedding to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger, 38. The happy couple and their wedding party have been living it up in Cannes since a rehearsal dinner on Saturday night in anticipation of Monday night's (July 1) nuptials.

According to E! News the ceremony will be held at an undisclosed location, with even the guests in the dark about the venue until they get picked up.

"[Avril] picked Cannes because she's spent significant time in Paris in the past few years and summered in places like St. Tropez," an unnamed source told E! "She's very immersed in French food, ambiance and culture. It's her favorite place to be." Lavigne previously told E! that she and Kroeger planned to have a "very big event," but one that will be limited to mostly friends and close family.

Last month, Lavigne revealed that the Canadian pair have written a new song together that will serve as their wedding theme and that she had big plans for her second trip down the aisle.

"I've been doing it, I'm the girl," she said. "I'm the one who has the crazy vision and he's letting me be me. It's a lot and I just want to make sure I really enjoy this amazing time ... I want all the guests who come to have this once in a lifetime experience and I want everyone to say ...

LOS ANGELES — There's a certain joy that comes with having the #1 record in the country and abroad. In fact, Robin Thicke is so thrilled at the success of his new single, he's considering a name change.

"I was thinking about changing my name to Blurred Lines at this point," the singer/songwriter told MTV News on red carpet at the 2013 BET Awards in L.A. on Sunday (June 30).

"Blurred Lines" is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping charts in the U.K., Canada and Australia, just to name a few. The song has gotten so popular that Thicke and his collaborators, T.I. and Pharrell, were called in to perform the record during the live awards show last night.

For his next trick, Robin plans to bring together another two musical heavyweights for "Give It 2 U," the next single from his July 30 album, also titled Blurred Lines. "The album's a lot of fun. It's the most fun music I've ever made and we got a great new single coming out after with Kendrick Lamar, that I wrote with will.i.am [and] produced by Dr. Luke," he revealed.

Best Albums Of 2013 (So Far): Who Made Our Top 10?

Conventional wisdom holds that, musically, 2013 has been a rather upside-down year: Daft Punk didn't make a "dance" record, Kanye West didn't do a "rap" album, Justin Timberlake didn't make the sequel to "SexyBack," and Jay-Z is releasing albums on phones.

And yet, despite all that — or perhaps because of it — , the first half of 2013 has also been one of the most memorable in recent history, a six-month span that's seen artists big and small defy conventional wisdom, take risks, and, more often than not, succeed in spades. Given the glut of truly great releases, it's difficult to pick the very best, but I'm going to try. Here are my picks for the Best Albums of 2013 (So Far), albums that have stuck with me through a very busy six months. If there's anything I've missed, let me know in the comments below ... but let's get right to it (before someone else releases something awesome).

Honorable Mentions

El-P and Killer Mike, Run The Jewels: Loved both of their efforts last year (Cancer 4 Cure and Mike's fantastic, El-P helmed R.A.P. Music) and, though it was just released — for free! — I'm already warming to Jewels, 33-minutes of aggressive wordplay and knotty, gnarly beats that will almost certainly crack my Top 10 by year's end.

Savages, Silence Yourself: Blunt and bleak, the oddly-assured debut from English post-punk quartet Savages delights in not only creating eerie expanses, but dragging the listener down into the darkness. Its cold, claustrophobic tendencies recall the likes of Joy ...
