Stevie Wonder Signs, Seals, Delivers Hangout Fest Closer

GULF SHORES, Alabama — Every great festival needs a great headliner to help close things out. And on Sunday night (May 19), the Hangout Festival snagged one of music's biggest icons for its finale: Stevie Wonder.

The R&B icon sent the tens of thousands home happy after a weekend of beachside fun that included sets from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Twenty One Pilots, the Roots, Kings of Leon, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bassnectar and Imagine Dragons.

Wonder played more than two hours of hits and carefully curated covers that touched on nearly ever facet of his career while also paying homage to the music that inspired him, from the Beatles to Parliament and Michael Jackson. The set opened with Wonder center stage jamming on a keytar cover of fellow Motown legend Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)."

The already salt-tinged air got even more fragrant when he boogied into the reggae groove of "Master Blaster (Jammin')," keeping the island groove going during a sun-splashed take on Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" and, a short time later, Bob Marley's "Is This ...

Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez: Their Billboard Music Awards Reunion

Whether they are currently together or not according to the latest gossip, both Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez hit up the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to attend the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 19).

Gomez was the first performer of the night, setting the tone. She kept the Bollywood theme of her MTV Movie Awards performance in a flowy dress with a gold metal bustier and bindi, sensually dancing to her latest single "Come & Get It."

Later on, Selena — in a partially see-through black dress — was on hand to introdue her bestie Taylor Swift, who performed "22" on live TV for the first time ... in a horse T-shirt! Later, Gomez sat in the same row as Swift and Ed Sheeran to watch the big show.

Several performances after Gomez took the stage, it was time to board Bieber Air. JB walked out of the window of the cockpit of "Bieber Air" then popped-and-locked his way through "Take You."

As city names flashed behind him and computer-generated maps pointed out exotic locales, the global superstar, in all black everything, performed the unreleased Believe track, putting the focus on his dance moves. As the song wrapped up, Bieber got back into the cockpit, set to fly the friendly skies.

Miley Cyrus Reveals Big Single News At Billboard Music Awards

Miley Cyrus is a woman of her word. After teasing fans she'd give them the latest news on her highly anticipated new single at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 19), she did just that, confirming that will arrive June 3.

The Mike Will Made It-produced tune will drop on Ryan Seacrest's radio show in just a few short weeks, marking the first listen of Miley's 2013 album.

Back in March, Miley called into Seacrest's radio show, teasing that her lead single would likely feature her collaborator, Snoop, but there's no word if "We Can't Stop" includes the iconic rapper — though the "We" certainly implies more than one person is involved.

A release date has yet to be announced for the album, though she's hit the studio with producers and artists, including Hit-Boy, Pharrell, Mac Miller and Tyler, the Creator. Production team Da Internz told MTV News earlier this month that Cyrus definitely sounds more mature on this album, her first since signing with RCA.

"I can say it's definitely going to shock a lot of people; definitely grown up," Ernest "Tuo" Clark said. "It's natural; it's not her trying to do like pop, four on the floor. What she did was, I just feel like, was different and needed in the game and, then, for her, a huge 'wow' factor."

Miley was also on hand in Vegas at the Billboard Awards to present the award to the night's Top Male Artist, but she ...

Steve Aoki Sprays Hangout Fest With Cake And Champagne

When Steve Aoki took the stage on Sunday (May 19) at Hangout Fest 2013 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, not one audience member kept their hands at their side. His explosive opening was, simply put, game-changing.

Aoki's fans screamed, jumped and held signs up high, begging for Steve to "cake" them — and cake them he did. The master DJ jumped from his post at his booth and lunged full sheet cakes into the crowd to his eager fans who kept demanding more.

And when he wasn't letting them eat cake, he was spraying them with champagne and launching audience members into the sea of arms on a variety of inflatable toys. With a chorus of screaming supporters harmonizing his beats, and his die-hards crowd surfing in blow up turtles and row boats across the audience, it's easy to understand why this producer extraordinaire never fails when putting on a show.

Festival-goers at Hangout Fest have had quite the weekend when it comes to electronic music. Aoki took a stage that had already Ahosted the likes of EDM superstars frojack and Porter Robinson just to name a few, and brought the house down with his contiguous energy and enthusiastic performance. Aoki ...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Dedicate ‘Maps’ To Stevie Wonder At Hangout Fest

GULF SHORES, Alabama — About halfway through the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Hangout Music Festival set, frontwoman Karen O took a moment to make a special announcement before playing the band's 2004 breakout single "Maps." "This is dedicated to Stevie Wonder," she called out to the thousands of fans who showed up to catch the Yeah's set. The iconic R&B star was slated to follow the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the Hangout Stage as the weekend's headliner.

But Karen's tender moments ended there. For the duration of the band's set, she was her usual brash-n-flash self. Decked out in a green sequin blazer and short combo, she carried the crowd through the band's back catalog as well as a host of songs from the band's newest album, Mosquito, occasionally pausing to give shout outs to the "ganja smokers" and lending her mic to the crowd for some vocal duties.Songs like the fiery "Heads Will Roll" and the head-pounding "Phenomenon" were hard-rocking reminders of where the band was 10 years ago, when they broke out of the downtown New York City art-rock scene.

But their new numbers cast the band into more of an electro-meets-new wave vibe. "Sacrilege" and "Suck Your Blood" contained more tribal elements, mixing pounding rhythms from drummer Brian Chase as well as some sampled elements. It's not that surprising, considering they tapped LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy and TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek for Mosquito production duties — and the band translates those newfound sounds well in a festival setting.

Ellie Goulding’s Powerful Hangout Fest Set Was One For The Girls

GULF SHORES, Alabama — The Hangout Festival didn't leave fans wanting for much — supermodels on water slides, country bands and shellfish, and you know, Tom Petty, Kings of Leon and Stevie Wonder playing on the shore of a stunning beach. But the one thing this year's Hangout Fest didn't feature was a long roster of female artists, so British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding had to represent.

Female-fronted acts like The Breeders, Best Coast, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Delta Rae, and Grouplove were amongst the festival's musical highlights, but, in addition to being one of the biggest names on this year's ticket, Ellie Goulding had the unique distinction of being one of the Hangout Fest's two female solo artists (the first being Lissie). And naturally, she rose to the occasion. If she could handle performing at the royal wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate at Buckingham Palace, she could handle the beach.

The warbling, pixie-esque Brit winner and first lady of electronic music enchanted the crowd with a set that featured cuts from her breakthrough debut album, Lights, and its follow-up, Halcyon.

Under a cloudy, overcast sky that echoed her native England, Goulding, true to her slightly shy, poetic girl-next-door ...
