Emma Watson In ‘The Bling Ring’: The Early Reviews Are In!

Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," starring Emma Watson, was one of the first big debuts out this year's Cannes Film Festival, and the early reviews are in. Most praise the movie and its performances, and many note the similarities between "Bling Ring" and two movies from earlier this year, "Spring Breakers" and "Pain & Gain."

To get a sense of what the critics at Cannes are writing ahead of its June 14 U.S. premiere, we've sampled a few early reviews of "The Bling Ring." Check them out below.

The Story
"The Bling Ring, as you may not have surmised from the film's coolly oblique marketing, was a group of well-to-do Los Angeles teenagers who, over a 10-month period in 2008 and 2009, managed to steal over $3 million worth of personal property from celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox. How did they do it, you ask? They just walked in: in the way that good things so often come most easily to those who most expect them, the doors to these plastic palaces were left mostly unlocked." — Guy Lodge, HitFix

The Performances
"Always adept at directing young performers, Coppola encourages fine work here from her cast of mostly newcomers, with Watson taking special relish in shedding her goody-two-shoes 'Harry Potter' persona. Broussard also makes a strong impression as the wallflower with a yen for fuchsia stilettos." —Scott Foundas, Variety

The Direction
"Perhaps even more here than in her other films, Coppola's attitude toward her subject seems equivocal, uncertain; there is perhaps a smidgen of social commentary, but she ...

Kanye West Goes On Epic Rant: ‘I Ain’t No Mother—-ing Celebrity!’

Kanye West had more than a few things to get off his chest when he took the stage on Wednesday night at New York's Roseland Ballroom. But the rapper certainly made two things clear: He doesn't like the paparazzi and he "ain't doing no mother----ing 'SNL' skits."

West, who's slated to perform during this weekend's , was on hand as featured entertainment for the Adult Swim upfronts. But he used the stage to lash out at the paparazzi, among other things. According to Complex magazine, which posted some video from the TV industry event, Yeezy went on an expletive-filled tirade during his hour-long set.

"One thing about me, I'm the worst kinda ... celebrity because all I do is make real music. All I do is sit in the studio and make real, real sh--. And that's it," he said, half-singing. "That's mother----ing it. That's mother----ing it. So I don't want nobody trying to run up on me with no cameras, trying to sell pictures and sh-- to magazines, asking me no dumbass questions, throwing me off of my focus and sh--," he continued. "Harassing you all mother----ing day. I ain't no mother----ing celebrity."

Over the last week, Yeezy has been snapped by photographers walking into a street sign and, days later , having trouble driving his Lamborghini through the gates at pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian's house. And while many celebrities use "SNL" has a platform to poke fun at those types of situations, West made it clear that he won't.

West said a friend asked him ...

‘American Idol’ Report Card: Finale Is Candice Glover’s To Lose

By standards, Wednesday was pretty sleepy. Neither Candice Glover nor Kree Harrison are megawatt personalities who are going to bowl you over with their charm; both are pretty cold to the touch.

When the two came out onstage to open the show, they both made generic statements about how overwhelming it was to be there on finale night, and they both sounded about as convincing as a teenager saying he was excited to go spend the weekend with his grandparents. This wasn't Ruben vs. Clay, or Taylor vs. Katharine, or even Jordin vs. Blake. has had its share of problems this season, from spats at the judges' table to ratings-challenged issues (getting beat by "Grey's Anatomy" had to hurt), and the low-simmer Candice vs. Kree showdown isn't the kind of duel that is going to overshadow the show's troubles.

As has been stated time and again, their vocal abilities aren't in doubt. But after Angie Miller was voted off last week, it seemed like she took the show's chances at producing a relevant pop star with her. Can Candice or Kree prove us wrong? Let's go to the tape and weigh in on each contestant's performance Wednesday night.

Kree Harrison
It was immediately apparent that producers wanted Candice Glover to win. Why? For Harrison's first song, chosen by "Idol" producer Simon Fuller, she was saddled with Sarah McLachlan's "Angel," which for years has been most closely associated with McLachlan's campaign to end animal cruelty. Gee, nothing gets out the vote like conjuring up images of battered dogs! Harrison's version, ...

‘Star Trek’ And Klingon: Learn The Language Of The Aliens!

A new language was added to the Bing Translator this week, but it's not one that's commonly spoken in any earthly region. It's Klingon, the language of that particular race of aliens that can be seen in the films and TV series.

"There's a group of really good Klingon speakers working on this thing," linguist Marc Okrand told MTV News. And he should know: Dr. Okrand created Klingon and is the author of "The Klingon Dictionary."

Okrand first came to "Star Trek" to create a few lines of Vulcan for 1982's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." "It's 10 seconds worth of film, if that," he recalled. "Mr. Spock has two lines and the character Saavik has two lines, and that's it." Okrand figured that was the end of his "Trek" involvement. "That was fun," he thought. "I got to teach Mr. Spock how to speak Vulcan."

But about a year and a half later, producer Harve Bennett called Okrand to tell him that Paramount was making another "Star Trek" film and, in this one, the villains would be Klingons. "He said, 'I looked around and I found out that there's nobody in charge of the Klingon language — you did Vulcan, you want to do Klingon?' That's how that happened."

Dr. Okrand was quick to point out, however, that he wasn't the first to invent Klingon words, which were initially heard in the original 1979 film. "Those lines were actually made up by James Doohan, the actor who played Scotty," Okrand explained. "When I got involved, ...

Hangout Music Festival 2013: Best Of The Big Festivals … On The Beach

Gulf Shores, Alabama seems like an odd place to have a music festival, but then again, there was probably a time when folks scoffed at the idea of doing one in Manchester, Tennessee, too ... and look how that turned out.

I'm not about to compare Alabama's Hangout Fest to Tennessee's venerable Bonnaroo just yet ... but it's not exactly a stretch to see the similarities between the two. And I'm not just talking about their Southern locales, either. No, it starts with the notion that the organizers behind both fests are kindred spirits, in the way they book bands — fun fact, Trey Anastasio has performed at 50 percent of the Hangouts! — and the way they run their respective events.

Like Bonnaroo, Hangout is fun and loose; it may not have the famously dusty (and fabulously communal) campgrounds, but it makes up for that in metric tons of white sand, beautiful Gulf breezes, and warm sun. Not to mention boardwalk bars, waterslides and more peel-and-eat shrimp that you can possibly fathom. It remains the only festival where going barefoot is not only possible, but practically encouraged. It's relaxed in all the right ways, a party in every possible sense of the term. Yes, Hangout is rather aptly named.

Then again, the main attraction is the music and, as I witnessed firsthand last year, Hangout doesn't disappoint in that regard, either. I caught solid sets from Jack White, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dave Matthews Band, not to mention folks like Skrillex and the ...

The is holding nothing back on her just-released album, raising the bar by taking risks with not only her sound, but her lyrics as well.

Lovato touches on all different aspects of relationships on Demi, from a lighthearted fling in "Something That We're Not" to holding on to the hope of a lost love with "In Case." "Not only does it draw up different emotions because there are songs about heartbreak and there are songs of just wanting to hook up," Lovato said. "And you never want the person you wrote about to hear that song and feel bad. I never want that to happen. But at the same time, it's coming from a personal experience, and if it turns out to be a great song and you're like, 'Well, sorry.'

More than anything, the is thrilled she created songs people can relate to, even if it put her in a very vulnerable position.

"There are songs that are pretty self-explanatory on this album and when I played those songs in front of other people I almost felt, like, naked," Lovato said. "There were several times I had to leave the room."

"Shouldn't Come Back" was one track she had a particularly hard time laying ...
