Less than 24 hours after being booked and released in connection with a hit-and-run incident, Chris Brown tweeted on Tuesday (August 6) that he’s fed up and and might retire from music soon.
“Don’t worry mainstream America. After this X album, it’ll probably be my last album,” Brown wrote. The singer posted the comment a day after he spent less than an hour at the Van Nuys, California, jail on Monday. According to online records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Brown, 24, arrived at the Van Nuys jail at 2:40 p.m., was booked two minutes later and then released at 3:22 p.m. with no bail.
Las month, a judge revoked Brown’s probation from his 2009 assault on former girlfriend Rihanna in connection with the hit-and-run case. He is free pending an August 19 hearing in the probation matter, but is facing up to four years in jail if he is found in violation.
A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached for comment at press time about the retirement talk, but the singer appeared to be reacting to the ongoing fall-out from the Rihanna incident. “Being famous is amazing when it’s for ur music and talent,” he wrote. “I’m tired of being famous for a mistake I made when I was 18. I’m cool & over it!”
The latter comment was retweeted more than 10,000 times within an hour of posting, with many followers begging Brown not to throw in the towel. “@chris brown you’re one of the strongest person I’ve never known please don’t let these bastards win you’re stronger!” wrote @sincerelyines.
Brown, whose third single from the album, features Nicki Minaj, is expected to drop X later this month.
