Did Vine Star Jerome Jarre Get Arrested In Miami?

You might have glanced at your trending topics on Twitter tonight and wondered: What’s up with American Airlines, and why do they need to “CHILL OUT”? The answer lies with Jerome Jarre.

On Tuesday (October 28), the 24-year-old Vine celebrity tweeted: “LANDING IN MIAMI IN 3 MINUTES. ABOUT TO BE ARRESTED. I NEED YOUR HELP!!!”

He followed that up with a screenshot of a longer message explaining the details of his alleged predicament.

According Jarre’s note, he was filming a new video during the flight that involved him emerging from the cabin’s bathroom in a speedo holding an inflatable duck.

The alleged prank did not go over well, he says. He further claims that a cabin crew member “MADE CALLS” mid-flight and informed him that he would be arrested once the plane touched down in Miami.

The message ends with a call to action, asking his 867K Twitter followers — and, by proxy, his 7.5M followers on Vine — to trend the hashtag “#AmericanAirlinesCHILLOUT.” Within hours, it was the top-trending topic in the United States.

At 11:00 p.m. ET, Jerome broke his hours-long Twitter silence with a photo of him celebrating his freedom on the floor of the airport terminal. Along with the picture, he wrote: “I AM FREE!!!!”

In a subsequent tweet, he thanked everyone who tweeted their support, with the implication that the Miami-Dade police didn’t taken him into custody because of a hashtag.

But, did any of that even happen?

An American Airlines flight from Mexico City did arrive at Miami International Airport at 8:03 p.m. ET on October 28, which does align with the timing established in Jarre’s tweets.

His photos from Tuesday also prove that his flight was real, even if the encounter with law enforcement might not have been.

However, I was unable to confirm his claims with the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department or the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney at press time.

One thing is certain: Jerome Jarre got “#AmericanAirlinesCHILLOUT” to trend almost immediately after positing the hashtag into the universe. Vine celebrities are real, and I, for one, welcome our new social media overlords.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
