Ed Sheeran Confesses Why He Can’t Get Taylor Swift For A Duet

Sheerios, take note. Ed Sheeran still has some more work to do on the follow-up to his breakthrough 2012 album, +. Despite the fact that he’s managed to write a ton of songs, the VMA-nominated singer hasn’t quite figured out the right combination of tunes to make the final cut, tentatively slated for release in January.

“I haven’t finished recording it yet, so you see I can’t really tease it if it’s not properly finished,” he told MTV News on the VMA red carpet Sunday night. “It was, but then I had to go back in. I kept writing songs. I’ve probably written like 70 songs over the past year. I did like 30 … and then I did another 40, so I’m going to go back in and record some more.”

Sheeran has spent part of 2013 touring with his pal Taylor Swift on her Red tour, and he shared, “I’ve met a lot of people whilst being on tour.” But he noted that as of right now, Swift, who enlisted him to appear on her 2012 album track “Everything Has Changed,” won’t be returning the favor. Why? “No, ’cause I think that would be not imaginative.”

Well, his video for “Lego House” was imaginative enough to earn the ginger-haired singer/songwriter a VMA nomination for Best Male Video. While he went home without a Moonman (he lost to Bruno Mars), he explained how “Harry Potter” star Rupert Grint (who will next appear in the flick “CBGB”) ended up in the clip.

“People have called me Rupert Grint since age 11, and I thought I’d poke fun at myself a little bit and make people think that he was me, which people did. So, yeah, it worked,” he said. “We did [hang out on set]. He did the music video for free, which was really nice of him, and it was a very, very cool process.”
