Fat Joe Believes Chris Lighty’s Suicide Ruling Despite Swirling Questions

Chris Lighty’s family and friends are still reeling over his death, which was ruled a suicide. In fact, many of those closest to the music magnate don’t believe that he committed suicide at all and are calling for authorities to re-open the case.

“See, none of us want to think that our friends or somebody that we love will commit suicide. We don’t know what happened at that moment,” Fat Joe argued reluctantly when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday.

Last August, Lighty was found dead in his Bronx, New York, home. Medical examiners officially ruled that his death was a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Many like Chris’ brother Dave and star rapper 50 Cent have stated publicly that they don’t believe Lighty killed himself. In September, attorney Scott Leemon, who has defended rappers like Jim Jones and Busta Rhymes in high-profile criminal cases, launched his own private investigation to examine the circumstances surrounding Lighty’s death. He now says he has turned up evidence which raises questions about the suicide.

“The main problem that we encountered was that the NYPD did not do a thorough investigation into Chris’ death,” Leemon said in a statement issued to XXLMag.com on Tuesday. “In fact, what they did do was cursory, at best.”

Joe credits Lighty with changing the course of his life and giving the one-time drug dealer a chance at rap, so his love for the mogul is unwavering. But the Terror Squad leader believes that the NYPD wouldn’t make such a glaring mistake in the investigation. “I don’t want to offend nobody. I think it’s 2013. I think, a guy so important like that, they weren’t going to overlook if he committed suicide,” he said.

“What kind of a lawsuit would that be for a guy as rich as Chris Lighty who did so much? What kind of lawsuit would that be for the NYPD,” Joe questioned. “I don’t think they’re going to fumble the ball on that.”
