Is ‘Passenger’ Britney Spears’ Most Personal Song Yet?

Just a few days after the release of “Perfume,” Britney Spears fans everywhere were ecstatic again Friday (November 8) when what is believed to be another Britney Jean track leaked onto the Internet.

It has not been confirmed whether “Passenger” is official or whether it will appear on her December 3 album, as Britney hasn’t released the full Britney Jean track list yet. Official or not, on the midtempo “Passenger,” Spears offers vocals that fans haven’t heard in years, leaving behind most of the shiny studio effects.

It’s a 3-minute and 43-second journey that finds the femme fatale singing about letting go of the hesitation that comes with a new relationship. “The road will twist and turn but/ I know that I am in good hands/ I’ve never been a passenger, no/ But we’ll see more without a map,” she steadily sings on the chorus.

It’s definitely a more mature direction for the singer, who’s been known for her club-ready anthems in recent years.

While collaborative efforts with will.i.am and Sia have been confirmed, word on the street is the album will not feature previously reported sessions with Darkchild, Dev Hynes and Naughty Boy.

In late October, Britney took to her website to share her thoughts on the upcoming project. “I poured my heart and soul into this album, and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and as I am finishing, I am reminded of the incredible foundation that has supported me for the last 15 years,” she wrote in the handwritten letter. “I can’t believe this is my eighth studio album and I know I keep telling you that it is my most personal record yet, but it’s true and I’m really proud of that.”
