Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo Face Off In ‘Now You See Me’ Exclusive Clip

“First rule of magic? Always be the smartest guy in the room.”

Magicians aren’t supposed to reveal how they pull off their tricks, but Michael Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) offers this little nugget of wisdom to one particularly disgruntled patron in a new scene from “Now You See Me,” which debuted exclusively on MTV Thursday (May 9).

Directed by Louis Leterrier (“Clash of the Titans”), “Now You See Me” follows Atlas and his merry band of illusionists as they stage bank heists while entertaining their audiences. Although they commit their crimes in full view of thousands, the authorities, led by Dylan Hobbs (Mark Ruffalo), are at a loss to figure out how they’re pulling them off.

“I can maintain my resolve much longer than you can maintain that phony arrogance,” Hobbs tells Atlas. “And the instant that you show even the slightest crack in that smug façade, I’ll be there.”

Given his pedigree for sleight of hand, Hobbs admits he’s remarkably eager to have Hobbs try to keep tabs on him and his crew. “Let me warn you: I want you to follow,” Atlas insists. “Because no matter what you think you know, we will always be one step, three steps, seven steps ahead of you.”

Watch the rest of the clip to see how the face-off between Atlas and Hobbs comes to its conclusion — with one in handcuffs and the other struggling to figure out what to do next.
