Justin Bieber’s ‘Heartbreaker’: What We Know So Far!

As summer temperatures heat up, so do the teases for Justin Bieber‘s next single, “Heartbreaker.” The 19-year-old gave fans a juicy glimpse at the first cut from his in the late hours of Thursday night when he sang the song’s first line a cappella in a post on Instagram, sending the Internet swooning into the night.

While fans still have a lot of questions about the single — like, when are they going to hear it? — MTV News has rounded up what we know about it so far. So press play on that Instagram teaser and study up.

Let’s Get It On
The first lyric from the highly anticipated tune is right in line with Bieber’s penchant for romantic “Hey Girl”-like sentiments. He tantalized fans with, “Ooh, girl, I got a secret place that we can go/ ‘Cause girl, I really want to be alone/ And, baby, nobody else got to know …”

The Key to Your Heart
With that lyric serving as the latest clue, earlier this week, Beiber teased some of the actual song in the commercial for his perfume,
The Key. It’s a straight-up R&B-influenced track, with a beat that sounds like it would be comfortable on a Drake track and a sexy groove to match it. During it, Bieber repeats the word “heartbreaker.” So, maybe she didn’t want to slip away with him after all?

Purple Heart(Breaker)
Bieber first amped up his fans about the song when he released the cover art for the track on Instagram back in June. The single artwork didn’t feature Bieber’s likeness, but instead opted for a Kanye West-like image of a purple heart, crumbling, and cupid shooting an arrow at it.

Drops the Mic
For now, the release date remains “soon … very soon,” but Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, has made it clear that when it does get its first spin, it’ll silence all the haters and be “really for the fans.”

“We’re hoping the witch hunt [is] gonna end when he really just speaks for himself in the music,” Braun said. “And we’re gonna do it in a way that’s very, very unique, so when you see ‘Heartbreaker,’ know it’s coming directly from him and don’t think [of] the normal, ‘Oh, this is my single and this is going to be on the album’ [rollout], realize there’s gonna be a very unique way of how this music is going to be released unlike we’ve seen before from him.”
