Kanye West has spoken: That that leaked Monday (July 8)? It’s not the official version.
West hit up Twitter Tuesday to officially announce that the dark, CGI-heavy clip that found its way online was not the final version of the upcoming video: “The BLKKK SKKKN HD video that leaked yesterday was not the official version,” he tweeted first, then followed up with a series of tweets revealing that photographer/director Nick Knight directed the video (“Me and Nick Knight have been working on this video for 5 months and for creatives it’s heartbreaking when something like this happens”) and that the real version will drop within the next week.
He also demanded that all websites currently hosting the video take down “the unapproved/unfinished ruff” and had some colorful words for whoever leaked the vid in the first place.
The link that was flying around the Web Monday took fans to a Universal Music Group “development” page that has since been password protected.
Although West says that the video is “not the official version,” it does seem that the full-frontal-boasting mini flick is, in fact, an iteration of the final product — judging by Kanye’s tweeted request: “Allow me and Nick to give the world what we’ve been losing sleep over.”
This is not the first time a Ye video has found its way online before it was ready for the eyes of the world. Back in 2010, a poorly synced, unfinished version of West’s “Monster” video leaked to the public.
