Who says that Christmas cards need to be green and red and covered in snow? Certainly not the Kardashians.
Reality TV’s first family released their 2013 holiday card on Sunday, and it doesn’t look anything like a traditional Christmas card.
Shot by famed celebrity photographer David LaChapelle, known for the wild photo campaigns of Britney Spears, Madonna and Katy Perry, this year’s Kardashian Christmas card is a mostly all-girls affair, with Kanye West, Rob Kardashian, Scott Disick and Lamar Odom all absent from the surreal photo.
Even with the guys missing, there’s still plenty to look at. The backdrop is a funky, colorful theater that pays homage to celebrity decadence, complete with neon dollar signs. The family poses in a ravaged — yet glitzy — theater with mannequin parts tossed about and tabloid magazines strewn on the ground — a signature LaChapelle shot. Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall, Kris and Bruce look glamorous in black outfits.
Kim’s daughter North is also not featured in the spread, while Kourtney’s kids, Penelope and Mason, are.
The Kardashians’ holiday-themed E! special, aired Sunday night. It featured never-before-seen footage and debuted the new Christmas card.
Earlier this year, Khloe opened up to MTV News about why fans want to keep watching whatever it is the Kardashians are up to.
“Honestly I feel like I’m constantly [learning stuff about us]. As we get older, we all learn new things about ourselves and we grow and we, I don’t know, we just evolve as people. Every season we’re like ‘What else is there for us to film? Like how do people still want to watch this ’cause haven’t we done everything?’ And then someone gets knocked up or someone’s having this or whatever,” she said back in June. “And there’s always more ’cause that’s life — everything changes and happens.”
