The Kings of Leon uncorked a brand-new song during their Saturday night set at the Bottle Rock festival in Napa, California.
The track, a surging rocker reportedly called “Always the Same,” clocks in at less than three minutes, features a fleet-fingered guitar solo, and certainly shreds a lot harder than anything on 2010’s Come Around Sundown (in fact, it sort of reminds us of a muscled-up version of something from their 2003 Youth & Young Manhood debut).
Fans have already begun making comparisons to the Queens of the Stone Age, too; regardless, “Always the Same” is the first bit of new music we’ve heard from KOL’s new album, which they’re close to finishing and is supposedly due in September. In an interview with the NME, basisst Jared Followill said that the upcoming album is “like a mix of Youth & Young Manhood and Because of the Times,” adding “I thought we were going to make a really mature album, but I’m amazed how youthful it sounds.”
The Kings are gearing up for their return with a batch of headlining slots at festivals around the world … they’ll return to the stage at this weekend’s Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, Alabama, alongside the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and more.
