Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Drop Smooth Rhymes Over Nelly’s New Track

Nicki Minaj takes her rap features very seriously, and on Tuesday night, the lyric-busting Barb added another notable performance to her star-studded discography when she hopped alongside Pharrell Williams and Nelly, on the new St. Lunatics single “Get Like Me.”

It was a busy night for Nelly, who also performed on “The Voice” with country duo Florida Georgia Line and then reignited his hip-hop core with this Neptunes-throwback, drum-driven track. Nelly and Pharrell have a history of hits with tracks like 2002’s “Hot in Herre” and “Flap Your Wings,” which came three years after. Adding Nicki to the mix on “Get Like Me” only enhances the chemistry and excitement.

“You should follow my example, bitch I.E./ ‘Cause I’m front row Isaac Miz-ra-hi,” Nicki spits, riding the track comfortably in a verse where she brags on all that she has accomplished like her recent Beats By Dr. Dre endorsement deal for their new Pill speaker.

“Get Like Me” is the second release from Nelly’s upcoming M.O. album. The LP’s lead single “Hey Porsche” saw its music video released in March and has since gained over 15 million views on YouTube. While “Hey Porsche” has more a pop feel, “Get Like Me” proves that the St. Louis star hasn’t lost his jones for hip-hop, even after all these years. It’s a subject that he touched on with MTV News back in 2011. “At the end of the day, I am urban, so you can’t run from that fact,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s another successful brother, stepping and breaking ground for the next brother to come along and do it.”
