When we saw that Lady Gaga gave One Direction a little pep talk Sunday night at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, there were a ton of questions on our minds. Did 1D see her butt? How can we meet her? But perhaps the most pressing question we had: What was Mother Monster saying to the fivesome?
“She was nice,” Niall said of the boys’ exchange with Gaga, who was scantily clad as a mermaid, complete with giant clamshells on her chest and a seashell encrusted thong.
“She had shells over her boobies,” said Liam, an excellent observer. “She was giving us lots of compliments. For us lads, we were standing next to Lady Gaga, and we’re just normal lads, so.”
Another big moment of the VMAs occurred when Miley Cyrus took the stage with twerking bears and plastic underwear. And after the critics went wild in the aftermath, we thought we’d get the guys’ impression.
“We just thought it was a very laidback performance, you know, something you could watch with the whole family,” Liam explained with a straight face.
“We’re shocked that it got so much attention, to be honest, ’cause we never saw that coming,” Louis joked.
“How bad could it be when there were teddy bears onstage?” Liam asked. “There were small, cute teddy bears.”
