Pumpkins Are Not Actually Vegetables And Life Will Never Be The Same

Are you sitting down? Sit down. Sit down, because we have a pumpkin spice flavored truth bomb to drop on you.

All these years while you were pinning all pumpkin everything and feeling smug because, like, your special seasonal treat was a vegetable, so very GOOP of you.

Well, guess what, everything you know is wrong, especially if you thought you knew, really knew, in your heart of hearts, that pumpkins were vegetables. But, guess what.

You’re wrong.

Because they’re fruits.

And not only that, but they’re berries.

BERRIES.

It has to do with seeds, partially.

According to Foodbeast, a berry is a “Fleshy fruit produced from a single ovary.”

Pumpkins aren’t alone in this. Watermelons are berries. Bananas are berries. AVOCADOS ARE BERRIES.

AVOCADOS?!

And as if all this wasn’t enough, science says that strawberries aren’t even real berries. They’re “accessory fruits.”

Come on, science. Give us a break.
