R. Kelly Bares His Soul In Triumphant Bonnaroo Dance Party

MANCHESTER, Tennessee — R. Kelly brought a soulful sexy vibe to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival farm as only he can, infusing his Saturday night set with enough tongue-in-cheek innuendo and off-the-cuff humor to keep everyone bouncing along with him and his crew.

Kelly let it all hang out, serving up his “Ignition (Remix)” right off the bat before presenting a perfect blend of feel-good party jams and gut-wrenching ballads.

The crooner invited the crowd to join his “Fiesta” and “Move Your Body Like a Snake,” convincing them there’s nothing wrong with a lil “Bump ‘n Grind.”

R. Kelly’s medley also hit Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” alongside “Sex in the Kitchen,” “Step In the Name of Love” and “I’m a Flirt.”

“If music has inspired you to do better, make some noise,” Kelly encouraged before capping off his set with “I Believe I Can Fly,” backed by a robed choir as dozens of white dove balloons floated dreamily into the night sky.

Also Saturday at Bonnaroo, Jack Johnson filled in for Mumford & Sons, who canceled their appearance after bassist Ted Dwane had surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain.

Earlier in the day, Nas and Bjork held it down on the main stage.

The festival wraps up Sunday (June 16) with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky.

Twenty One Pilots got Bonnaroo revved up for the weekend Thursday with the off-the-charts pep of their opening-day set.

On Friday, the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Solange, Schoolboy Q and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes joined forces for a showing off their skills as Boston band Lettuce, featuring a tight horn section, brought the funk.
