Reunited Danity Kane Are ‘Over’ Breakup Drama

It was the breakup seen around the world. In January 2009, one-time Danity Kane member Dawn Richard declared the girl group over. And while the tensions among the members rose to new heights in the wake of the split, now the ladies are ready to start over.

They formally confirmed their reunion at the 2013 VMAs. And while there was a lot of drama surrounding their breakup, the former stars of Diddy’s “Making the Band” are now ready to remake the band on their own terms.

“You know we’ve just grown. We’re more mature women,” Aubrey O’Day told MTV News on the VMA red carpet. “This time we wanted to come back on our own free will and mostly the music, we love making music. We’re in the studio right now [and] actually with Stereotypes, who did ‘Damaged.’ And we have a new song that we love called ‘Rage.’ So we’re really excited about that.”

In the years since splitting and reuniting, the girls each tried their hand at other projects. O’Day worked on some solo music while Richard continued working with Diddy on his Diddy-Dirty Money project. Now, the group is ready to try to top the charts again, seven years after first making a name for themselves with their 2006 self-titled debut album.

O’Day and Richard will be joined by Shannon Bex and Aundrea Fimbres, but D. Woods is not a part of the reunion. The ladies previously shared that former mentor Diddy “always finds his way back.”

So, can they put all the infighting behind them to start fresh? “We’re grown. We’re over it. We want to make great music for the fans who have been asking for us,” Richard said. “You don’t get that kind of fanbase and we’re lucky to get them. We just want to make great music and give them something they’ve never seen from us before.”

No date has been set for the release of their new music, their first album since 2008’s Welcome to the Dollhouse, but Shannon Bex noted that fans may be surprised by what they have in store.

“The growth that we’ve had, it’s amazing being in the studio with these girls. We haven’t missed a beat, but the growth is incredible,” she said. “The music is going to be completely different from what you’re expecting.”
