Sam Trammell ‘Cried Like Five Times’ Reading ‘Fault In Our Stars’ Script

Sam Trammell’s endured plenty of death and destruction as a shapeshifter on the HBO drama “True Blood,” but Bon Temps’ most melancholy moments are no match for the sorrow inspired by John Green’s best-seller “The Fault in Our Stars.”

Trammell stars in the big-screen adaptation as Mr. Lancaster, the father of Hazel Grace, a young cancer patient who finds love in a hopeless place: Cancer Kid Support Group.

“I cried like five times reading that script,” Trammell told MTV News on the red carpet at GQ’s Gentlemen’s Ball this week. “It’s really faithful to the book, and I think a lot of fans are really going to appreciate that. It’s gorgeous and sad, too. I spent a lot of time crying.”

“Divergent” stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort play the love birds in question, and according to Trammell, their performances were flawless.

“Ansel is amazing, and Shailene is genius. They’re so cute together. They’re amazing. They’re both just such honest actors,” he said.

Fans will have to wait until summer 2014 to see just how amazing Woodley and Elgort are together on screen, but in the meantime, we asked Trammell to spill which scene he’s most excited for Nerdfighters to watch.

“Maybe the egg-throwing scene, where they’re throwing eggs at the car,” he said. “I wasn’t in that scene, but I heard it went really well. That’s a good one. There’s so many great scenes in that movie.”

We believe you, Sam (and have our tissues at the ready).

“The Fault in Our Stars,” which also stars Laura Dern, Willem Dafoe and Nat Wolff, opens June 6, 2014.
