So Who Exactly Is The Mysterious Villain In ‘The Avengers: Age Of Ultron’?

The two questions have been on everyone’s minds ever since “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” was announced: Who exactly is Ultron and what’s his deal anyway?

Fan boys know that the heavy metal maniac was built by the first Ant-Man, scientist Hank Pym, but for the upcoming film, he’s the handiwork of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, created as a de facto Iron Man, the ultimate drone built to protect the world.

Things go horribly wrong, though, after Stark uploads his signature cynicism into Ultron, who then becomes a virtually unkillable absolutist.

It’s not the good version that could’ve come from [Stark’s] intellect and personality,” Chris Hemsworth, who will be returning as Thor, said in Entertainment Weekly. “It’s the bad son.”

In an exclusive scene shown by director Joss Whedon, Stark throws a party with all of his fellow Avengers at the former Stark Tower before Ultron goes bad in his quest for good, announcing that he will bring peace to the world by eradicating the planet’s most destructive force: humans.

“I know you’re ‘good’ people,” the metallic skull-faced robot tells the Avengers. “I know you mean well, but you just didn’t think it through. There is only one path to peace…your extermination.”

The superteam of superheroes easily puts down the mechanical assailants known as Iron Legion, but Ultron is another matter entirely.

The next shot, which centers on the Avengers’ reactions, really impressed Chris Evans, who returns as the patriotic hero Captain America.

“A lot of times when Ultron starts talking, it’s beautiful. It’s really intelligent stuff,” said Evans on James Spader’s Ultron. “He’s out to do the things he wants to do because he’s disgusted with X, Y, and Z. You could probably sit down with Ultron and have a really intelligent conversation. He could blow your mind with his views.”

Unfortunately, after he’s done waxing poetic, you’re very likely to meet your demise..

“Yeah, and then kill you,” Evans added.
