Taylor Swift Continues Her Crusade To Crush Our Hearts With This Cover Of ‘Riptide’

Taylor Swift has been sweeping across the country like a tide, building anticipation for her first major 100% pop album 1989, so it seemed fitting that she release a cover that plays off that same notion.

The “Shake It Off” singer has been traveling Europe doing press, so naturally she stopped by the BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge to lay down a little session of her own—a live rendition of Vance Joy‘s touching “Riptide.”

The track is full of romantic longing and slightly tinged with sadness AKA it’s already completely in Taylor’s wheelhouse.

Is anyone else getting “All Too Well” Grammy performance flashback vibes from her subdued, emotional piano performance?! I love the big pop star moments, but I also love it when she strips and delivers her signature barren, barbed verses over simple melodies.

“I love you when you’re singing that song / and I got a lump in my throat ’cause / you’re gonna sing the words wrong,” goes the chorus. But we never have to fear that with Taylor—she nails every lyric. Watch it below:

MTV Weekend Editor. Acts like Madonna but listens to Merle.
