‘The Voice’ Recap: Blake Shelton Loses Country Starlet Holly Tucker

It was a bittersweet episode of “The Voice” on Tuesday night as the reigning winner returned home to the stage, and current contestant Holly Tucker just plain went home.

Season three winner Cassadee Pope received a warm welcome, opening the show with a performance of her new pop/country single, “Wasting All These Tears.” The single has already hit #1 on the iTunes country chart and will be on her new album, which she announced will drop in October. Currently writing and recording in Nashville, the breakout “Voice” star also revealed her new gig opening for Rascal Flatts.

While Pope admitted feeling nervous being back on the stage, season four’s remaining six contestants were certainly feeling anxious too. At the top of the night, coach Blake Shelton was leading, with three contestants in the top six, and Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher were holding it down with one each.

After a duet by Shakira’s Sasha Allen and Usher’s Michelle Chamuel, it was announced that Usher’s little spitfire was saved. This came as no real surprise, since Chamuel nailed both her performances Monday night, receiving an extended standing ovation from the audience.

The other “Sasha Fierce,” as Usher nicknamed Allen in a nod to Beyoncé, also had a fabulous night Monday, and she had an equally happy birthday on Tuesday, when she was saved by America’s votes, as well.

That left all four country singers fighting for the last three spots. Despite their nerves, Shelton’s Holly Tucker and the Swon Brothers took the stage with a rendition of “Leave the Pieces,” but neither was safe after 16-year-old country princess Danielle Bradbery’s name was revealed as the third save.

The final performance of the night came from Bradbery and Levine’s powerhouse artist Amber Carrington singing “Eternal Flame.” Luckily for her, Carrington’s flame burned bright one more night as she was announced safe.

Having all his ducks in a row the past three weeks, Shelton now found two of his artists in the bottom two: Oklahoma charmers the Swons and the angelic Holly Tucker. In the end, America voted to save the brothers, eliminating Tucker.

The final five contestants will return Monday as they inch closer to that “Voice” crown.
