‘True Blood’ Season Six Premiere Preview

“No one lives forever,” warns the gauzy, crimson-colored poster promoting the season six premiere of HBO’s “True Blood.” And with a war brewing between fangs and the fang-nots, there will no doubt be plenty of blood shed when the vampire drama returns to the airwaves. With the premiere debuting on Sunday, June 16, here’s what you need to know before tuning in:

Where We Left Off
One word: “Billith.” After downing the entire vial of Lilith’s blood (a potent cocktail, to be sure), the vampire dissolved into a puddle of bloody goop — slowly re-solidifying and rising into a truly terrifying new form. What he is exactly, we don’t know. But it’s enough to make even normally stoic Eric Northman nervous.

Meanwhile, in another corner of Vampire Authority HQ, Luna used her skinwalking powers to shift into Steve Newlin’s form and sneak out with her kidnapped daughter (currently in puppy form). But things didn’t go as planned (do they ever, in Bon Temps?), and she was ushered in front of television cameras to give an address as the reverend. But she couldn’t keep his form through the live broadcast and shifted back. Will she make it out alive?

But the finale wasn’t all death and destruction. Alcide experienced a rebirth of sorts as Packmaster of the Shreveport wolves (albeit after killing the current one), while Andy Bellefleur welcomed a litter of fairy-babies. (Check out a full recap of the season five finale at Hollywood Crush.)

Where We’re Headed
The season premiere picks up right where we left off: inside the ruling bloodsuckers’ lair with Bill on a rampage.

“When we saw him last, he was this giant red blob, and he doesn’t know what that is,” star Stephen Moyer told MTV News of his character’s status. “And we start immediately at that point. It begins right there. I like that kind of story telling where it unfolds for the audience at the same time as it unfolds for the character.”

With Bill out of commission (or at least the Bill of yore), it might just be time for Sookie to find a new love interest.

“A little action, yes,” Anna Paquin teased of her character’s romantic prospects. “I don’t know what else I can tell you without completely spoiling the season.”

Of course, if you’ve watched any of the trailers for season six, you know the main conflict this season will be between humans and vampires — a war is brewing.

“Actually the humans are fighting back. They’ve tried in the past but unsuccessfully. The governor of Louisiana figured out a way to actually hurt and capture and kill the vampires,” star Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd explained. “It’s been a fun season because we’ve introduced some new great actors on the show and some new locations that we haven’t shot at before. Eric even goes undercover at one point, which was fun to shoot.”

“True Blood” returns Sunday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
