Wonder Woman Cast In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

The search for a female lead in the tentatively titled “Batman Vs. Superman” movie has finally ended, but the casting comes with a surprising twist.

Gal Gadot, most recently seen as Gisele in “Fast & Furious 6,” has landed the coveted role, which a number of dark-hair actresses tested for, but the announcement from Warner Bros. also came with a confirmation of the popular rumor that the part was actually that of Wonder Man, one of DC’s biggest heroes and a character that fans have lobbied to appear on the big screen for some time.

Director Zack Snyder released a statement with the casting news. “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

The upcoming meeting of DC’s two biggest heroes has been long speculated to be a set-up for a “Justic League” crossover movie in the style of what Marvel achieved last year with “The Avengers,” and the presence of Wonder Woman in the follow-up to “Man of Steel” appears to support that theory.

Gadot was noted as one of three actresses who tested for the part when it was still for an unnamed female role in the film. Elodie Yung from “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and Olga Kurylenko from “Quantum of Solace” also reportedly tried out for the part. “Thor: The Dark World” actress Jaimie Alexander also expressed interest in the role, but wasn’t named as one of the finalists.

“Batman Vs. Superman” opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
