13 Boy Bands Time Forgot (But We Didn’t)

In 2014, the world of boy bands begins and ends with One Direction. Yet, if you go back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, where boy bands synchronized their dance moves and wore utterly ridiculous outfits, it was all about the battle of band supremacy between theBackstreet Boys and ‘NSYNC. (Keep The BSB Pride Alive!)

However, there were plenty other groups who attempted to steal their crown, some you may fondly remember, others, not so much. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and take a look at 13 of those boy bands who, for a brief moment in time, had a poster on my bedroom wall and held a place in my heart, and probably yours too.

1. Take That
Just take a look at the magic that is their video for “Back to Good.” It features the guys, and an oh-so-fabulous Robbie Williams, singing in the rain, showing off questionable dance moves, wearing fur jackets and sunglasses at night, basically everything a ’90s video should be.

2. 5ive
In puffy jackets, overalls and chunky turtlenecks (it was the 90’s, we all made fashion mistakes) these guys danced their way all over a bowling alley and right into my heart with their video for “When The Lights Go Out.”

3. LFO
This boy band trio took control of all the “Summer Girls,” as they had us wearing way too much Abercrombie & Fitch and “wishing on a falling star” for them to notice us. Yet, sadly, we weren’t “The Girl on TV.”

4. BBMak
Didn’t it feel like every time you turned on “TRL” BBMak’s video for “Back Here” was on? Now as I look back at their chiseled cheekbones and smooth vocals it has me singing, “miss you, want you, need you so.”

5. Westlife
Westlife had a hit song in the U.S in 2000 with “Swear It Again,” but obviously their real claim to fame is when they were crowned MTV’s winners of Battle of the Boy Bands back in 2012.

6. All-4-One
Their song, “I Swear” is the slow jam we waited all night to hear at our middle school dance, because obviously if your teenage crush asked you to dance to this song then he “loved you with every beat” of his heart. Re-watch and relive that awkward moment.

7. Boyzone
Boyzone didn’t gain as much success in the U.S. as some of the other boy bands on this list, but I didn’t seem to mind because “No Matter What,” I was a fan.

8. O-Town
These guys made quite a splash by giving us a bit too much info about their “Liquid Dreams,” a song meant to stay in your head and, at the same tim, kinda gross you out.

O-Town “Liquid Dreams” from Andre Austin on.

9. Day26
If Diddy liked them, then so did I. These “Making the Band” alums “Got Me Going” back in 2008 when their debut album hit #1.

10. 2GE+HER
“Say It (Don’t Spray It)” because you all know that “U+Me=Us.” How do we know that? Because, I know my ‘calculus.” Ok, in all seriousness, 2GE+HER was arguably one of the best things to come out of MTV. Ever.

11. B2K
The quartet had us saying “Uh Huh” when they sang about seeing our “Bump Bump Bump,” but unfortunately after they filmed “You Got Served,” the group said their goodbyes.

12. soulDecision
Now even though these Canadian guys claimed to not be a boy band since they played their own instruments, I would have to say to that “Ooh It’s Kinda Crazy” because in my teenage eyes they were, and that’s how I will remember them.

13. Another Level
This boy band got right to the point, they weren’t interested in love, they just wanted to be your “nasty man” and “lick you up on down,” basically they just wanted to get a little freaky. Don’t believe me? Watch below.
