While initial reports indicated that 2 Chainz was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday after police found marijuana on him while he was trying to board a plane, an official report on the incident indicates he might be in bigger trouble.
A statement from LAX Airport Police public information officer Sergeant Belinda Nettles confirmed that Chainz (born Tauheed Epps) was also in possession of a bottle of promethazine and codeine at the time of his arrest.
“At approximately 1 p.m., Airport Police Officers responded for a narcotics investigation in the baggage check area of Terminal 5,” read the report from Nettles. “Transportation Security Administration advised Airport Police officers they found marijuana and a bottle of promethazine with codeine (purple drink/syrup) in the checked bag of 35-year-old Tauheed Epps (2 Chainz), a resident of Riverdale, Georgia.
“Airport Police Officers investigation revealed Epps was on board an outbound flight, he was removed from the aircraft and arrested for California Penal Code Section 11350a H & S — Possession of a controlled substance. Epps was transported to the Airport Police station for preliminary processing and transported to and booked at the LAPD Pacific Division Jail without incident.”
Chainz was booked on a felony narcotics possession charge, according to TMZ. A spokesperson for the rapper could not be reached for comment at press time, at which point it was unclear if he’d been released from custody.
He denied the incident in an early morning tweet on Wednesday (June 12), writing, “Nobody took Anything from me, I didn’t get shot, I’m not in jail. Don’t know wut else to tell ya. Sorry if I disappointed anyone, maybe next time.”
The arrest was the capper to a rough couple days for the rapper, who denied reports on Monday that he’d been robbed at gunpoint in San Francisco the day before.
He posted a series of tweets denouncing the reports of the robbery, which ended with one that now seems ill-timed. “Rule# 3 we definitely got geeked up in San Fran, best smoke in the world. 2 blessed 2 stress,” he wrote. “Haha timeline filled with people that want me f—ed up. I tell them, get in line u can’t stop this sh–. Ha.”
