Things were down to the wire for the VMA for Best Lyric Video, but the 5SOS Fam has flexed their way to victory to give the guys the first Moonman of the night.
The battle was a fierce one between the Lovatics and 5SOS fans and it went right down to the wire, but it was the 5SOS fam who pulled ahead for the win with 78,562,766 votes for their superhero-themed lyric video for “Don’t Stop.”
This marks the first VMA victory for the Australian pop punk group, even if the Lovatics were right on their heels with 73,912,505 votes for Demi’s collaboration with Cher Lloyd, “Really Don’t Care.”
The closest runner up was Austin Mahone and Pitbull‘s video for “Mmm Yeah,” which scored a measly… 7,322,005.
So what was it that bolstered the video for “Don’t Stop” ahead of the others? Probably the fact that the video transforms our favorites Calum Hood, Michael Clifford Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin into comic-book superheroes. Oh, and there’s plenty of pizza too. Watch the video above if you haven’t seen it yet.
Keep it tuned to MTV for the show at 9 p.m. to see if the guys can take home any more hardware.
