Lucy Hale is keeping a pretty big secret.
The “Pretty Little Liars” star just released her second single, “Lie a Little Better,” off her debut album, Road Between. And the uptempo country track is all about trying to keep a crush a secret, a topic Lucy is all too familiar with since the song is actually about someone she used to work with on “PLL.”
While she’s still not willing to name names, Hale told MTV News the tune “hits extremely close to home.”
“In life, in general I’m not one to fall to pieces over a guy or give up anything; I’m very headstrong. I’m very focused on what I do and very independent, but there was this certain guy that I was acting like an idiot around,” Hale admitted. “I was fumbling over my words, I was stuttering, I couldn’t focus, I couldn’t look him in the eye. I was just crushing so hard on him,” she added. “So it’s just kind of a funny way to say that sometimes you just have to cover it up, sometimes you have to lie a little better.”
The crush was about two years ago and “that ship has sailed,” as Hale put it, but she totally gets points for being able to keep her lips sealed because that special guy still doesn’t know the song is about him. The “PLL” star joked that could change on one condition: “If the song does really well, maybe I’ll tell him.”
The track follows Lucy’s first single, “You Sound Good To Me.” Along with celebrating the 100th episode of “Pretty Little Liars,” she recently shot the video for “Lie a Little Better” at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry.
