Even though it’s been less than a year since One Direction released Midnight Memories, the guys are hard at work on their upcoming fourth album.
Niall, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Harry sat down with Carson Daly on the “Today” show and revealed that the next album is taking them in a new direction…no pun intended.
“I think it’s going to be a little bit more edgy,” Niall said of the type of music they are recording. “But obviously we feel like we’ve got some really good songs and we are happy.”
And they should be happy with this group of songs, since they are the ones behind the music.
“We’ve all taken a hand in the writing this time,” Liam said. “And we’ve literally written almost every song.”
The guys didn’t reveal when we will hear new music, probably because they are currently traveling all over the U.S. for their Where We Are stadium tour. Just four years after becoming a boy band, 1D are performing in front of 50,000-plus crowds of Directioners each night, a figure that’s sometimes hard for them to wrap their heads around.
“We have moments, especially on this tour when you step out to these amazing stadiums and stuff, we end up spending the first 20 minutes just standing there looking at each other going ‘wow look where we are,’” Niall said. “It’s just unbelievable what’s happened.”
Liam continued, “I remember I sat watching the Super Bowl thinking, ‘How are we going to get on stage and play to that many people?’ It’s amazing, but our fans are so amazing every single night and it’s nice to play to a crowd that genuinely love you, it’s amazing.”
