The 2014 Video Music Awards are in mere days, you guys. While we are eagerly anticipating the numerous performances from Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more, we are—TBH—equally excited to see what everyone wears on the red carpet. Topping that list? Katy Perry, natch. KP is #KWEEN of the VMAs, with seven consecutive appearances already under her belt. 2014 will make (at least) eight and based on past looks, we are, obviously, expecting a lot.

2008 marked Katy Perry’s first time at the VMAs. She was still very into her pin-up phase and opted for satin hotpants and bustier.

Even as a first-timer, Katy knew multiple outfits were necessary to make an impression. She changed into a second satin bodysuit when she hit the stage between main stage performances. Katy’s love for food-themed clothing is apparent, even this early in her career.

In 2009, Katy went a touch more glam. Dressed in head-to-toe silver from The Blonds, Katy showed that she could pull off both couture and costumes.

For her performance with Joe Perry, Katy erred on the costume side, in a heavily-embellished corset, white spandex, and thigh-high boots.
2010

While she had demonstrated for two years in a row her ability to nail multiple VMA looks, Katy went all-in on one look in 2010. In a sheer Marchesa dress, Katy introduced us to her affinity for technicolor hair with pink, purple, and blue highlights.
2011

2011, however, was a different story. Katy wore not one, but four, different outfits. There was her Asian-inspired Atelier Versace and parasol.

Her geometric Christian Dior Fall 2011 couture outfit, with its iconic Phillip Treacy hat that bore a striking resemblance to a block of cheese.

Later in the show, Katy didn’t let her pink hair stop her from wearing an eggplant Tom Ford gown–the lady loves colors and isn’t afraid to show it.

And finally, to celebrate her Michael Jackson record-tying 5 singles from one album—Teenage Dream, of course—Katy’s stylist Johnny Wujek created this sparkling record dress and matching headpiece. Four outfits, one night, NBD.

The following year, Katy was subdued, especially compared to 2011. She wore a black Elie Saab gown and returned to her dark hair. It was the first time she had worn a full-length gown on a VMA red carpet, and she 100% made it #WERK.

While sitting next to Rihanna in the crowd, Katy changed into an embellished (and long-sleeved!) Emilio Pucci dress and equally bedazzled Louboutin heels.

Last year, Katy brought her “Roar” style to Brooklyn in an leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro dress. Perhaps more memorable than the turtleneck and high-slit, though, was her grill, which spelled out “Roar.”

For her performance under the Brooklyn Bridge, Katy went hardcore athletic, changing into an equally animal-centric top, flaming boxing shorts, and tube socks.
2014
Seven appearances and thirteen outfits leads us to 2014, where Katy will be continuing her red carpet streak.
Given the bomb emoji and how excited she is about the outfit, we have a feeling this year’s outfit is going to be one for the books. Will she be dressed as a stick of dynamite? Will she show us how to make a pizza onesie red carpet appropriate? We’ll find out on Sunday!
It’s up to you to decide the winners of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards! Vote now and tune in Sunday, August 24, at 9/8c ET to see who wins at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Plus, get the latest updates from all your favorite VMA artists on the MTV Artists App.
